Zelda: Skyward Sword @ GDC New Trailer

People who complain in this thread have legitimate reasons for doing so. It's a forum for discussion after all.

Eh, not really. These people are coming up with the most obscure, ridiculous, made-up reasons to complain. And that's how it always is.

But just you watch -- they'll all go out and buy the game, day one, and then go on about how they love it.

horrendous trailer. they need to step up their trailer game back to what they did with Twilight Princess. Both Skyward Sword trailers(especially this one) have been pretty bad. But I still feel like the game is going to be better then TP since its the minish cap director guy.

The trailers have been to demonstrate the controls, more than anything.

No one has ever done that though.

"PEOPLE HATE ZELDA GAMES THEN CHANGE THEIR OWN PERSONAL OPINIONS WHEN A NEW ONE COMES OUT" is a terrible fallacy and it needs to be banned.
Yeah this is the worst thing in every Zelda thread. That I MAKU WINDU WAKU image followed by a host of ":lol so true"s. Jeez.

Which is why they are pretty bad. While it should demonstrate the controls, demonstrate the game as well please.

After the Zelda game after Skyward Sword is out of course.

At around the 30 second mark when he's tightrope walking, you can see a figure to the right of the door. Either a statue or person?

Also pretty sure that new character is not a Twili. The Twili have neon-colored tattoos on their body (Midna and Zant both have them), that dude and the girl have none. Design honestly looks like it took inspiration from Vaati and Veran, and yes, possibly the Twili (though I still don't think they're Twili).

so they're both parts of majora.

girl-sword is majora's sword. guy is majora's guy.

Looks more like a statue.

man everyone seems upset that it's not more story oriented but i am happy because the trailer is more gameplay oriented

I don't think any Zelda game will ever approach the weirdness or awesome of Majora's Mask. Nintendo hasn't done anything like it since. It's disappointing, but okay since that just makes the game shine even brighter in the collection.

Prove me wrong, Skyward Sword! :)

Zelda's story sucks. Even Nintendo realized it. That's why the trailer is 100% gameplay.

Trailer lacks the "epic" feeling but I'm liking what I see when it comes to puzzle and fighting gameplay. Vid quality is shite too. I'm guessing Nintendo will have a more epic trailer at E3.

It's nice that they show a lot of gameplay it's just that it's badly done, just some scenes added together, nothing artsy like the one that IGN hyped a few weeks back. And it looks pretty horrible from a technical standpoint but maybe that's just me..probably just because of the quality of the video, I don't remember TP looking that bad.

I still don't see why they can't make this work with the GCN or classic controller. I know their trying to focus on the motion for puzzles and combat, but I just don't like motion in my games. I feel like I have more control on what I'm doing. Oh well, gotta wait and see how this one turns out.

I mean, it gets the job done in showing off the motion controls, but that's about it. If they'd added another 30-45 seconds to it to tease the story and other unique features, and edited it to look like an actual trailer and not a demo reel like they used to play at the end of those old Nintendo Power videos, there'd probably be a few less complaints.

The comments that OoT3D looks better than SS are baffling, though.

the only problem with sailing was the having to play the song to change wind direction. they needed to take that step out.

I absolutely loved sailing, and while I think changing wind direction was tedious, I don't think it should have been removed. It was integral to puzzles and integral to the way the world itself worked: changing the winds.

I think what SHOULD have happened was maybe assign the Wind Waker to a button, press it, and then you can immediately press the C-stick or control-stick in a direction (north, south, east, west, etc.) to command the wind to promptly blow in that direction.

Makes it simple, straightforward, quick, and easy.

It would remove the "song" aspect, but oh well.

Nintendo's become more conservative with their trailers. They like to keep the good stuff a surprise.

well it's been nine months since we've seen anything about it, and the reveal was all about gameplay. so when the next thing we see is more of the same (like, not even overworld or hint at structure stuff), yeah, it's pretty underwhelming.

also, that hud still being there is kinda worrisome. hoping they're true to their word and that it can be turned off.

also, considering the quality of the music and the lack of information surrounding the game, the trailer hints at a later-2011 release rather than first half 2011 like people were originally told.

They said they would, for a while, but I guess they couldn't come up with anything new and interesting so they stuck with the OoT formula this time around as well.

The game seems uninspired..

Wow, we are going fast here. I expect a Metacritic score for SS in the next few hours.

Heart containers always full? Soccer Mom Zelda confirmed. Not gonna get more than a 7.0.
Oh and here's my review of the score: Main theme and credits track are awesome, the rest not so much.

At least the boxart is pretty

Bububu- will we ever find out more about those oh-so lovable and interesting Oocca?

The suspense is killing me.

I was so excited for WW. I loved the style from day one.

And then it was released and for two hours was awesome, oh my god, some of the most blissful gaming I've ever done, and then there was just water, water, water, over and over and almost nothing else.

One of the most disappointing games for me.

There is a warping song, you know, and plenty of islands with treasure, people, and dungeons on it in the Great Sea, lol.

I get the feeling this will end up like the DS games did for me- no interest because they just look too damn gimmicky. Combat seems trapped in a 1V1 situation to compensate for reduced reaction time and just about everything seen so far looks too waggle friendly for my tastes.

Really though, it's turned me off from day 1 in a number of ways BUT based on what has been shown off so far I can't make a final call. Maybe something to do with the game will be shown at E3 that will suddenly make me want to play it.

No fucking way. Seriously?
Exaggerating slightly, but Aonuma asked him why Tetra wasn't in Spirit Tracks and his response was

Aonuma Yes, but she doesn't in this one. Back when I heard the story's rough outline, I asked, "What? Why isn't Tetra making an appearance?" And he said, "Well… I don't like Tetra all that much."

preeeetty much. timeline Zelda is the worst Zelda

I like the individual Zelda stories for what they are. Particularly Majora's Mask's, Wind Waker's and Twilight Princess'. I like to know what's going on :(

Gameplay looks really fun, and visual style looks slick (low-quality capture aside). All the hyperbolic criticisms are pretty confusing to me... "shameful?" "godawful?" Really? It's basically a montage to show off motionplus mechanics, it's no TP reveal, but at showing the implications of M+ it succeeds. Impossible to tell how similar/dissimilar SS will be based on the trailer, unless you think it's a rehash based on still having Link slashing enemies in dungeons.
Wish we'd seen more puzzles like the lock ones. Interesting to think how most previous Zelda puzzles have been based on finding keys, whereas here the lock itself can be a challenge.
This is the kind of Wii adventure game that I've been waiting for.

All 3D Zeldas are 1v1 pretty much. Despite that the trailer and demo has showed off the ability to fight multiple enemies...pretty much like any other Zelda game.

Well Iwata has been on record saying Oot3d will release before skyward Sword; and today at the conference he said to expect OoT3d in June; my guess would be no earlier then end of august.

Good god, the visuals are fucking awesome. Smack bang between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Realistic proportions with nice clean colours and animated effects..

not one of the best Zelda trailers ever, but by the grace of the three Godesses I want to know more!

well supposin' that you do (and I enjoyed Wind Waker's little tale as much as I think it's possible for me to enjoy storytelling in gaming), isn't it nice to be SURPRISED once in a while?
