Well just from his pose and position and such the first thing I thought of was

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Wind Waker has the best NPCs in my opinion. Grandma, Tetra, Minigame guy, Store owner (Eskimo?), the kids in Windfall island, the pictobox guy, etc.

I liked the pirate partner you had in Phantom Hourglass because I consciously read every line of his as if Jack Sparrow said it.

Which was probably the intention.

He's alright, probably a total badass in bringing the fury.

Is it assumed he's an antagonist or is there total proof of this???

Well he IS sitting atop the Asura boss (which seems to be before Link actually fights it), so that's probably proof enough...

Colors are also way better in that IGN feed (SHOCKING), for those that haven't seen it yet...

Exactly TWW and MM have the best sidequests and side characters(TINGLE) of all Zelda games.

I think by giving the villain a weird twisted and bright look, Nintendo can give him really evil motives and actions without having the game be M rated. He seems to be the same race as the sword girl. Maybe he is the ying to the Master Swords yang? A sword fairy with powerful evil magic? I can't wait to find out!

About that new logo...

Anyone else think that the wings kind of look like propeller blades? Nintendo hinting at Link finding some ancient flying device?

Assuming he did not jump off a cliff to his death, he probably has some mechanism for flying.

Man...that could have as large an impact as Epona did back in the day. Its time though...we've already covered land and sea nicely.

They just look like swords to me. Everything in this game is about swords.

But ShockingAlberto has a good point, assuming that cutscene is not just for show and is in the game.

It would be amazingly cool if you were able to fly down to Hyrule seamlessly. That would be awesome.
...:(

Hey if Nintendo can capture the same feeling Mario Galaxy had when flying, Skyward Sword flight should be no problem. Even if its just for the intro sequence (i'd take something like the intro to Final Fantasy the Crystal Bearers, minus the shooting).

Skyward Sword is kind of an origin story, at least for the master sword. We will learn a lot of interesting things about the Zelda universe from this game. The "sky" can imply many things: air, flight, cosmos etc. I wonder how far this is in the past. I wan't it to be in the extremely distant past so we can have many sequels in between this and Ocarina. A 1000 or more years would be interesting.

And the developers have mentioned in many interviews how they want to include a flying mechanic in a Zelda game one day.

Not to mention that the Mastersword looks kinda like a flying animal.

Maybe it can not only turn into a human but into a dragon or a bird in this game.

Skyward Sword you know.

Kinda wish Zelda had a western developer :/
Darksiders was kinda shitty, guys! I know everyone wants that Dark Zelda game, but Darksiders was a Dark Zelda-like.

A western Zelda does not ipso facto mean a better game. It could just as likely be Enslaved.

Cause of course that would fix everything.
If jrpgs were made by westerners, the would would be a better place /sarcasm

Seriously though, I want a western company to do a take on Japanese style rpgs

/off topic

Anachronox?

Costume Quest?

In terms of Western developers that could do an awesome Zelda, hrm...

2003 Retro could. Don't know about now.

Warren Spector could do it with enough time and money.

Will Wright could probably figure it out and then make the best thing ever if his goal was to make a Zelda game, but since it's Will Wright, he would probably make a game that was his but had the Zelda license.

Bioware could do it. Bioware would not do it. They would make their template game and put Zelda in it.

You know, weirdly, if I had to give Zelda to anyone, Japanese or Western, and for whatever reason Platinum was not an option, I would totally say Jupiter.

Edit: Of course probably Valve, but again, only if their goal was to make a Zelda game and not a game called Zelda.

The only western studio (or eastern for that matter) that could make a better Zelda game than Nintendo would be the original Metroid Prime team. A lot of those people have left Retro already. I need some Andrew Jones Zelda art.

Think Epona + pegasus boots + roc's feather. There's going to be some mode of flying transportation in this game i guarantee it.

I've never been the biggest Zelda(actually just haven't played most of them), but I think this looks awesome. People will get upset about anything.

Seems more like a symbol for a bird like creature then a "flying device".

A kick ass giant bird or a griffin for transportation would be great.

I have a feeling the flight stuff will be a mini-game similar to the skydiving in Wii Sports Resort.

Not too sure how going up would work though...

Fuck. YES.

again, fits right in to what i was saying earlier about items that open the world up. now there's a whole new dimension of exploration: digging down, through walls, tunneling. and it has precedent in zelda. probably a little too tonally whimsical for what they're going for here.

Pegasus Boots that work like the speed booster in Other M would be godly.

3d nintendo games could use a better sense of speed and agility, if you ask me. it'd be a really positive addition.

The FLUDD add-ons in Super Mario Sunshine are a pretty good template to begin with. I still don't think they've adequately captured Samus' movements in 3D yet, although Other M was a step forward in that regard (at least it got something right!).

Magnet Gloves/Switch Hook
Roc's Cape/Deku Leaf
Mirror Shield
Pegasus Seeds/Boots
Iron Boots
Bombchus
and I suppose the Boomerang

Just to name a few, and whatever new thing they can think of. Liking what I see with the whip and flying bug thing.

Whatever gets in, I want them to have non-puzzle applications. Like how the Grappling Hook in WW could steal items from enemies.

yes! i love fastfludd.

and i will not play other m.

I would just like to point out the obvious (because apparently it's not so obvious to GAF):

Skyward Sword is controlled by the WiiMotionPlus, exclusively. Not a gamer pad or a system that mostly relies on button presses. It is the first major hardcore game (as in from a major already-existing gaming series) from Nintendo, the company that made motion-gaming popular, that is 100% dependent on motion control.

So please continue to look over one of the biggest changes Nintendo has ever made to one of its major series because you hate TEH WAGGLEZ. PLEASEEEE continue to naively think this is the same Zelda we've been getting since the N64 just with a different look..... please do! But the reality is, with a series like Zelda who has recently continued to see mostly declining sales with each new release, Skyward Sword being WM+ exclusive is not only one of the most innovative approaches Nintendo has ever taken with one of its major franchises, but it's also Nintendo's biggest risk since the Wii was released.

I know we are pretty much off this topic now but people asking for new developers so the series can have a fresh feeling to it obviously haven't actually PLAYED the game, which makes me smh in annoyance. Tsk Tsk yooou
