Zelda: Skyward Sword @ GDC New Trailer

Didn't Aonuma talk about making a Zelda game involving flying in the media event for spirit tracks? I have a feeling that Miyamoto probably scaled this back somewhat and you will have like one or two flying sections. The main focus of the game will be on swords.

I don't know how, unless traversal of Hyrule has been streamlined to on-rails sections ala God of War flight sections. I have a feeling we are going to understand why hyrule's crest has a bird on it.

Oocca will be the new Epona.

I don't think it would be any easier, but being able to keep you eyes on a monster at all times would be nice. the purist would raise hell about it though -_-

I would like larger, monster bosses. not regularly, but maybe optional bosses. hell, a guild wouldn't be out of place for a Zelda game
Yea, you're right. I just feel like Zelda's battle system never gets used to it's full extent. Not many enemies are challenging.

I drew out the "reclaiming Hyrule Castle" set piece in Wind Waker out so long, pretending like each Dark Nut and Moblin were an actual challenge and that I had to be strategic.

Wheres the love for Snow Peak? It's not a "song" as such- but is a magical piece which fits well with the landscape and is in some ways- quite dark.
This does add a great mood to the area- but now that the reuse/rearranging of the main theme has been pointed out, I'm only now realising the full extent of it D:

Anyway, I've always loved Zant's Theme. And even better, the Zant Battle Music. Loved that fight. Hearing the music go through all those stages is awesome, specially near the end around 4:10 (video length is misleading).
Can't wait to have a whole new OST with SS, one of the best parts of playing a new Zelda game is the music. If that fan recreation of the demo music is anything to go by, then things are looking good.

TP was on the right track with those knight enemies so SS will expand on that with thei positional defense and counterattacks (as in the E3 demo). They could make the standard mobkins better with more aggressive AI. Their numbers were just right but they mostly just attack one by one. And you have moves like the spin slash to gain distance (hey could block this though). Also, they need to increase their defense. Not only are their attacks pathetic, but their defense is shit too. You can take them down in only a couple o hits. Unfortunetly, they still seem to have low health judging by the E3 demo.

Are Zelda games normally released on Sundays?
no. twilight princess was, but that's because the wii launched that day. nintendo only started doing sunday launches somewhat recently though.

that said, 9/25/11 is an odd date for a placeholder. not that i believe it's the real date for skyward sword, but usually placeholder dates are the 1st, the 15th, or at the very last day of the month.

It used to be games accompanying Nintendo hardware launches were Sundays.

Then it became "event" games. Pokemon, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, etc. Games that ship early and Nintendo wants people to come get during Sunday shopping.

Then it became "whatever the fuck we feel like" days. Sin & Punishment 2, for example.

Maybe.

They weirdly called Other M (and other August Metroid games) "holiday" titles because it was the back half of the year. And sometimes they didn't.

August's biggest problem is that that it is fairly close in proximity to OoT 3D. Then again, Nintendo's also claiming Link's Awakening will be an eShop launch title, OoT 3D is the following month, they say Skyward Sword is coming this year, and they still insist there will be something besides those games to celebrate Zelda's 25th anniversary this year.

Here's how I see it. If Nintendo has something else for the holidays, something big - like, say, a New Super Mario Bros. Wii 2, August would not be impossible. Zelda does not necessarily have to release at Christmas to sell the way it usually does and Nintendo is not averse to putting their hardcore/mainstream games in places other than Fall (Mario Galaxy 2 last year, for example). In the last two years, their big Fall titles (DKCR, NSMBWii) were revealed at E3 and made it out for Christmas, so it's not unheard of.

August does not strike me as obviously fake or impossible, but it depends a lot on what else they're doing.

9/25/11 is late september guys, not august.

anyway, nintendo released the wind waker in march of 03, and it sold 825k copies. august is kind of a slow month. september is not (and neither is march).

regardless, i wouldn't count on a big wii game this holiday if zelda hit in september. i think mario kart 3ds will take up that slot.

I don't know what to believe. I can see the game releasing in September. It makes a lot of sense. Nintendo wants the holidays to be all about 3DS.

On another note, Nintendo and Best Buy are being all "buddy~buddy" as of late. Maybe they know what they are talking about.

The final phase of development last 7/8 months?! I thought the game would have come by July. September is really late.
They're trying to break their software drought record.

february to september is seven months. i think that would be a record if no wii games come out sooner. the soonest would have to be june, at this rate, but that's only four months.

Absolutely...and September will see the release of 10 Wii titles then :D
Name them, they've got nothing. Wii's going to tank so hard this year(think Japan like levels) even if MS's E3 performance is nothing more but Don Mattrick doing his smug face on stage. Nintendo has no third party support, zero zilch, the new Sonic game to celebrate his anniversary won't even be released on the Wii. It might be SEGA's stupidity or even they lost all confidence in the Dust Collector 3000.

I seriously hope they push this back so it can be a Wii 2 launch title. Release at the same time in SD on regular Wii so no one gets mad.
Oh great, then we can have more debate on which is the "real" version.

Wii version of TP is better since it is cheaper. £50 for the GCN version? No thanks

Unless the N6 is a really small graphical leap again, I don't see this happening.
Besides, I'd rather the N6 be able to upscale Wii games.

EAD may have been secretly creating high quality HD assets for Skyward Sword all along.

Many people think there's a better than 50/50 chance that N6 will release in November or December 2011...and Nintendo has *nothing* else in the lineup besides Kirby at the moment.

I mean, what else could they announce for Wii at E3 that could potentially be a 10+ million seller?

So I think Wii is basically dead from a new software standpoint. All the major selling franchises have come out, and Move / Kinect has stolen its thunder. So even though Wii still sells well, it's probably going to divebomb in sales once people realize no new games are coming out for it.

So it would be a smart move to make an HD Skyward Sword for N6.

You seem very uninformed. And lol at 10+ mil sellers being the end all be all for the Wii.

What's this N6?

N1=NES

N3=N64
N4=GCN
N5=Wii
N6=?

It's the first I've heard it as a nickname to the next Nintendo console.

Wii was codenamed N5 for a while, long before it was even given the codename "Revolution". Shame they never used N5. Sounded pretty badass.

Move / Kinect have taken away Nintendo's primary selling point for Wii (other than Nintendo's franchises of course)

And yes, it has been the 10+ mil sellers that have driven the vast majority of Wii sales.

Wii Sports Resort
Wii Play
Wii Fit
NSMB Wii
Mario Kart
SSBB
Mario Galaxy

Holy bitterness batman lol

Go suck a lemon to sweeten your mouth.
Seriously, getting worked up over this shit is not healthy.

^^ I think Wii sales will continue to hold in the West. Particularly in the holidays where it's the ideal multiplayer setup to get people together.

--------------------------

Looking forward to this title, I find controlling Wind Waker archaic (particularly bombs and arrows) after the sublime pin-point accuracy of Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks touch screen controls.

I wonder if Nintendo will officially announce it as "Nintendo 6"... lol
Definitely not gonna happen.

N5 sounds cool at first, but when you think about it, it's pretty generic-sounding. Nintendo isn't Sony.

Wii was an absolutely brilliant choice of name that has an opposite effect. It sounds dumb at first, but once you hear it a few times (and the jokes die down), you get used to it. Honestly, it was a great name for marketing purposes. I wouldn't blame Nintendo if their next console used "Wii" in the name somewhere.

Yeah, the Wii name was one of the greatest decisions this console generation, which is funny, because it was considered the final nail in the coffin when it was announced.

It seems like such a "must have". I'd love it if the next console upscaled Wii games if it's an easy process that can be achieved. No way someone at Nintendo hasn't looked at Dolphin, etc. I'd say that Nintendo might not care but there's no real precedent to look in regard to them doing something like this right to fully judge?

They are perfectly happy to include backwards capability with the Wii for Cube games. DS for GBA and now the 3DS for DS games. Is upscaling really out of the question I wonder. Just not going to get my hopes up.
