By the way, supposedly someone said at E3 that one of the differences between Wii and GC Zelda will be 60 <---> 30 FPS, along with what ever other effects they can push out before the Wii is launched.

60 for Wii and 30 for GC?

The least they could do is offer a "normal" control setting for the Wii version. :\

Well, you do have less button to work with than the GC if you take away the sensor moment, right?

Are there? When I played the GameCube version at E3 2005, I didn't think any GameCube game was as impressive as Zelda. The animation and lighting effects blow away any other GameCube game. The only competition was RE4 in my opinion, and I thought Zelda still looked better.
i'm talking about these zelda pics compared to ps3/360 games.

Why are we comparing a GC game (forget that it's on the Wii, there just porting over the GC version to the Wii) to next gen games from X360/PS3?

Does anyone else feel that an absurd comparison?

i think it reflects well on Nintendo and the game that there are people that can justify comparing Zelda to next-gen titles. :)

looks like GAF really needs some common sense training

totally.

some in this thread have implied these pics aren't so impressive because there are better graphics out there, to which i'm saying this doesn't affect my appreciation of these graphics. zelda still looks amazing, regardless.

I had to chime in on the Wind Waker issue brought up earlier in this thread.

Wind Waker is the most beautiful artistic achievement ever in video games. Not to mention that despite haters and their ignorance, the visuals in WW are a huge technical accomplishment.

What drives me crazy is I seem to be the only person that thinks a "more mature" Zelda could have been made with a cel shaded style....in fact this would have been quite striking, to say the lease.

After attending E3, the game I voted best of show in the Gafees thread was Phantom Hourglass. The style works so well on the DS and the control is just so fluid. I can't wait to get my hands on that game...more than any other title on show at Nintendo's booth.

Anyways, I hate the "mass market" gamer that thinks a more realistic approach to visuals should take precedent to a more stylistic, artistic approach.

That said, Twilight Princess still looks to be outstanding...and you can still see that the use of a modified WW engine makes for a beautiful art style, especially in the Twilight Realm.

the field screenshot looks great, but Nintendo should be able to fix those blurry ground textures...

Good job Scrow.

While overall it looks very good and stylisticly is looks great, I have to agree about the game having ugly, low quality textures.

In some areas yeah, but generally, NO.

I mean even RE4 had some REALLY ugly textures, but that doesn't say much in the big picture.

wow ignoring the pics and the pointless graphics debate i just re watched all the game trailers from the past E3s and GDC and omg this game just reminded me why i love the Zelda series so much. each trailer looks amazing, cept this yrs e3 which just is 49 seconds long and seems rushed, and each trailer shows such a different part of the game that u really get the feeling of how epic this game will be. cant wait for this game.

The Wii controls were supposedly pretty wonky. I still don't get why there's two versions of this game.

simply because Nintendo promised for over 2 years that this would be a GC game...

what the hell is that? Ufo get :lol

Those pics look great, I hadn't seen them. Twilight realm seems to have an equally surreal feel, akin to Majora's Mask. This game will rule!

Hmmm... we saw another person like that earlier, in the beginning of the E3 06 trailer... why are they green? Spirits, perhaps?

I'm thinkin' that might be the case, something Link can only see as a wolf...

jesus I'm soooo glad they ditch that black and white twilight realm bullshit :D

me too. A whole world with Black and White wouldn't work that well...now it looks simply amazing :D

You got pretty defensive there.
Are you employed by MS?
Why did you feel the need to start trolling Microsoft in this thread? You seem to do that quite often, despite the topic.

Anyway, the game looks fantastic. This is one of the primary reasons I will be picking up a Wii on launch day. Can't wait!! :D

See, this here is a fallacy. What millions of WW fanboys really can't seem to grasp is that us TP proponents don't think that "realistic" = more machoor!! Maybe, just maybe we liked the "realistic" style because we feel it's more suited to a game like Zelda. Seriously, we've been exposed to 2 games in the vein of Ocarina of Time, which many consider to be the best Zelda ever, then Nintendo makes things worse by showing that demo at Spaceworld 2000, and people were somehow surprised that people went "wtf" when they saw WW? What if they took MGS or Halo, and pulled a WW, and drastically changed everyone? Yeah, you'd get the same reaction.

Despite WW's childish designs, Nintendo did do a good job of keeping a mature atmosphere and tone. I wouldn't mind another celda, but preferably with better character art. But the point I'm trying to make is that this is just a stylistic issue.

WW -----------> TP

is NOT the same as

Sands of Time ----------- Warrior's Within.

Jeez. :P

In Discworld Noir, you become a werewolf, and your sense of smell is greatly heightened, so you can smell invisible things, which could be a similar concept in TP.

Here's a question though... I haven't seen any information about how the game is going to play. Should we be expecting another Ocarina of Time, albeit with better visuals and all, or are we looking at a new Zelda, since Nintendo seems to want to take Zelda in new directions. (Like the pointy-clicky Phantom Hourglass, which looks very interesting.)

I guess what I really want to ask, is can we expect a few action sequences on par with games like God of War? Nintendo has never really shown a competitor in that genre and frankly badass link looks like he could fit the bill for action hero. (As long as it doesn't dilute the traditional Zelda gameplay.)

It's really hard to tell, considering no one has played the wolf Link segments of the game yet. The human Link sections on foot do seem to play like OOT, just with the Wiimote and many more enemies, and a bit more battle system depth as opposed to Wind Waker.

The horseback battle sequence demo from 2005 definitely looks like it fits the bill for what you're looking for.

Zelda is "more mature" and "more realistic"..... THAN WW. But it's not a departure for the series, just as WW wasn't. Since Zelda I and II, there have been two different approaches to the series in terms of visual design that we see now on the GC. People may have their preferences, but the elitist critique of TP being so "mature" and the implication that it is somehow wrong is fucking nauseating sometimes.

P.S. I am in agreement with you - just using your post as a stepping stone.

I have to say, the graphics whores in this thread are tools. If anything this game is giving me a huge Majora's mask vibe. And that is a good thing, the art(in a non technical sense) even at this stage with the limited part of the game shown is beyond all other zelda's. That alone is enough reason to buy this.
