Zombie movie recommendations

Mostly good picks except City of the Living Dead and Zombi 2.
Definitely watch the few highlights of Zombi 2 on Youtube, though.

I am a hero is my favorite zombie movie.

What? They made a movie out of I am a Hero? Is it as fucked up as the manga? Definitely going to have to check this out at some point.

Yeah it's got some other spooky cosmic horror-y shit in it that's not purely zombie oriented (same with The Beyond).

Okay.... Whew. Turns out I still have enough Insight to not go too crazy lol. I really need to dig into Fulci's catalog. I've only seen Zombi 2 and City of The Living Dead......

I know what you're thinking: "That's about demons, not zombies"

Yeah sure. But they're basically the same and follow the same ruleset

Also this movie rules

Watch Demons

I just recommended it a few posts ago and was surprised it took so long.

Easily one of the top 5 zombie flicks.

Yeah Demons is fucking fucked up lol. It's a great movie. The sequel is, imo, also a great movie. The prequel series was..... I don't quite remember it too well, but I enjoyed it for most of it. It's essentially a glorified Infected movie, and a good one at that.

See..... My post is why you shouldn't be drinking in the afternoon...... But it still stands. Watch Demons thread starter!!

The Dario Argento movie, right? That and it's sequel are my fave zombie movies, and I'm not even a fan of zombie movies! I mean, the sequel isn't as good but still amusing.
So good.

edit: ok it took a while on page 1, but page 2 is full of praise for this one, as it should

He's pretty hit or miss for me, but Don't Torture a Duckling is my second favorite after City.

So good.

I think Argento produced it, but it's a Lamberto Bava movie (Mario Bava's son).

Dead Alive is the 1992 Peter Jackson movie and it's better than any of his LotR junk

His early films are by far his best. Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, and Dead Alive (Braindead) are so much fun.

As for my suggestions, they have already been mentioned, but I will reiterate:

-Return of the Living Dead
-Dead Alive (Braindead)
-Night of the Creeps
-Fido
-Shaun of the Dead

Any of these are a guaranteed good time.

Bava.

It's great. Didn't care for the sequel.

One film, I'd also recommend is Dead Snow, which is a fun horror comedy. Also most Romero films will do, save for Survival & most of Diary.

One of the latest zombie movie I saw was 'It Stains The Sand Red' . It's a decent film that
plays on the Fido and Day of The Dead Zombie pet/buddy trope.
There was another recent one called..... Here Alone. Decent film.

If you're interested in a First Person Zombie film, Pandemic is decent. There is another by the name of 'Hard Line'. Hard Line was interesting and definitely reminded me of a videogame.

I liked Diary.

They had a quiet and unexplained retcon and I didn't quite like it :/ It was so weird to see the same group (or person) in Land, Diary, and then Survival after what happened to that person in Land, lol. Sure they may not be the same person/group but it was hard for me to distinguish the person from all 3 films.

I figured everyone had most of the bases covered so I was gonna suggest Train to Busan, but you got it in the OP.

Ah shit, how could I forget about this? Demons is one of my favorite horror films ever. So 80s, so badly dubbed, so gory, so good. Plus it has a pretty awesome soundtrack. I met Claudio Simonetti a few months ago and got him to sign my DVD copy.

Yes, it qualifies as a zombie movie to me. Demons 2 isn't bad either, but not quite as good as the first film.

Shockwaves or Shock Waves is a pretty good movie about Nazi zombies.. Has Peter Cushing, Brooke Adams, the kid from Flipper grown up, and John Carradine

I am partial to Fulci's stuff. They are uneven, but he comes up with really great scenes (which is why he's one of the people Tarentino rips off a lot)

Night of the Creeps is a college buddy comedy/zombie movie that I think works surprisingly well. Stars one of the Rustys from Vacation and Tom Atkins

Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Day of the Dead (1985)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
The Battery
Zombi 2 (a.k.a. Zombie Flesh Eaters)
Night of the Comet
The Return of the Living Dead
Braindead
Shaun of the Dead
Slither
Planet Terror
Pontypool
Zombieland
The Crazies (2010)

Versus.

Not a classic zombie film, but it's fucking rad.

The director's Hollywood debut was Midnight Meat Train, which is a decent little horror staring just-before-fame Bradley Cooper. Based on a Clive Barker novel, it has a kind of Lovcraftian horror to it in places.

You should check out both even if the latter isn't zombies.

Dead Set is pretty dang good, as well. Not sure of its availability though.

Shaun of the Dead goes without saying.

I was in Dead Set as a zombie. In most of the long-shots of the facility with the zombies hording the gate, you can see me and my friends shuffling in the background.

I'll stress the recommendation for The Battery because it's different compared to the usual zombie fare. I guess it's pretty divisive in its reception but I really enjoyed it

I'm prooobably gonna do a mass dump of recommendations with VERY short descriptions tomorrow when I'm a little more alert, broken down into categories because zombie movies are my thing.

Expect lots of Italian titles.

For now: Burial Ground: Nights of Terror.

IN the whole infected movie category, I'd have to recommend Stakeland.

It's about vampires but the way they're portrayed is very much as mindless predators. Has an enjoyable sombre tone to it, and a great performance by Nick Damici as Mister.

It also has a sequel, which doesn't quite hit the highs of the first, but is still enjoyable.

Good list. I personally really like the bolded. Also, Night of the Creeps.

Here's one that no-one has seen, because it looks c-grade at best, but is actually quite good: Carriers.

I've seen it. It takes an hour for anything to happen, and when it does you wish it hadn't.

The highest praise I can give it is that it's shorter than most movies.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Oh yeah, there's not really any action, scares or anything. It's sort of a character drama take on the premise. I thought it was pretty good.

<< Død Snø aka Dead Snow and also Return of the Living Dead, Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead if you don't mind zombie comedies

As for the more serious films, Romero's ...of the Dead movies, Re-Animator, Resident Evil 1 (and stop with that one, the rest are trash), Zombi 2 and The Dead (the African setting is the best thing about it).

If you want something a bit more original, Pontypool.
People are infected through certain English words.
Not sure if it up on streaming though.

You might want to spoiler tag your post.
I recall that was a revelation very late in the movie.

Watch Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things for the amazing "zombies coming out of their graves" scene.

The movie is old (1972) and very slow and very low budget. It's not gory either and it's not really about getting infected and turning into a zombie. But damn the atmosphere is amazing!

There's surprisingly little zombie movies where zombies rising from their graves is seen. This one has that done great!

Oh yeah, watch this!

I thought Demons 2 was fun too. People seem to hate that one but I liked it.

I thought Stabler was good in it. The film should have been about him and his daughter.

Undead and Wyrmwood are also good Australian takes on zombies.

Yeah, modern zombie movies are like that anyway. Zombies rarely feel like reanimated corpses but more like demon lion beasts. And I think Demons is where that type of thing was at its best.

Oh yeah, this one has something going on pretty much all the time. I think there's 2 or 3 minutes tops of 'nothing happening' between interesting things. If it's not a zombie somewhere, then it's titties. If it's not titties, then it's the weird 'adult kid' being weird.
