This was actually reported by Forbes a few days ago. Avatar is the only original film to have a larger gross. Everything else ahead of it is a sequel, prequel, based on some other source material, or an actual historic event. The Lion King and Finding Nemo other the two original films it recently passed. It's not often that an original film does this well.

The film is creeping towards 1B WW which is amazing considering no one thought it would get close.

Well, technically speaking it was based on Kimba the white lion, but legally disney got away with calling it original.

Not to rag on you but of all the stories you could have said Avatar was based on you picked Pocahontas? That's almost the exact opposite storyline with the native joining with the settlers to unite their peoples at least if you watch the Disney version which is highly highly inaccurate and paints a much rosier picture than what really went down.

At least mention Dune or Dances with Wolves or any of those white savior stories if you're going to call it unoriginal.

I only watched the teaser trailer which did not give away anything. I thought it was OK but nothing that really got me excited. Watched the film with my nieces and it was damn good. It is one of the best animated films I have seen.

Lol Pixar good. Disney animation has been slaying Pixar for some years now. Tangled, Ralph and BH6 all better than their Pixar counterparts released in that time. Add Zoo to the growing list.

So I have never heard of Kimba before, had to google it. Looking at the images, yeah definitely some strong similarities.
