The 4chan webm thread has exploded, so I figured a proper OT would be helpful to gather info on how to make webm files, where to host them and how to view them.

What is WebM?

WebM is an audio-video container format designed to provide royalty-free, open video compression for use with HTML5 video. (Wiki - WebM)

Why WebM over gifs?

These play really smoothly if I can load one at a time but opening a thread with numerous ones that autoplay with the extensions kind of slows everything down. Here's hoping for an autoplay off option in the extension soon!

Someone should link the greasemonkey code that disables autoplay to save CPUs. You can use it on Chrome by dragging and dropping the file into your extensions.

Having issues with the offline converters. They keep saying the input line is wrong. My input line looks like this:

Z:¥[AiA] GaoGaiGar FINAL\[AiA] GaoGaiGar FINAL 05.avi

Is it because my system is using Japanese for non-unicode programs?

Minor update to the Firefox script: bumped up the embedded size a bit. Not going to automatically embed native res videos because Dennis's 4K video would less break tables and more blow them to smithereens, but still.

Also, Chrome users who wants to use my edit: here's the Chrome equivalent of Greasemonkey, and it's possible to install the script without aforementioned extension. Or you can keep using Andrex's extention and enjoy automatic updates, whatever works for you.

[Edit] New version: thanks to a PM'd tip from zhorkat, the script should now also handle .mp4 files.

All we need is a little Kill (la Kill)
