PAL Charts - Week 20, 2014

When number 1 is <10k even Kirby can chart highly. I expect it to vanish in the next few weeks like Mario golf and Yoshi (suggesting these games are bought at launch by core fans then largely ignored until a big deal).

April 2014 software sales:

UK - 1,480,000 (-6.2%)
Japan - 2,358,000 (-21.7%)
That is closer than I expected. Per head of population they are somewhat similar, right? Interesting thought that. Then again wasn't Golden Week in April for Japan which might have affected releases as such sales.

I believe Japan has twice the population of the UK, so kind of close.

Smokeydave got banned??? how???

I think titanfall is showing legs but it wasn't the runaway success they hoped for. Xbox one is slowly crazling back some units i think. It's selling more at the company i work for anyway.

No idea, the person I asked in the last PAL Charts thread said it was 'a lack of political correctness'.

It is a little strange seeing Minecraft above Titanfall.

Not actually that important
As of 14:56 GMT, Xbox One without Kinect

Amazon.com - 235th
Amazon.co.uk - 1,509th

...Uh.

I'm wondering if the mini-price cut in UK + Titanfall bundle deals are responbile for the current complete lack of demand for the Kinectless SKU.

Point is, who's going to buy it full price from Amazon UK/IT/etc sans Kinect nor games when retailers are selling the Kinect+Titanfall bundles for just 20/40€ more? I say that Amazon charts hold no value in this case more than ever

That being said, here in Italy they might have as well not released the thing and it'd make no difference, Xbox brand really has zero mindshare over here

Btw, ITA PC Charts:

Code:

Looking at the PAL charts the past few weeks exemplifies how important it is to have a global presence for Sony. I wouldn't be shocked that even though they have most likely had a reduction in sales pace they are able to mitigate it some what by now focusing shipments to previously under served markets like Germany.

I just don't understand the charts and Minecraft anymore, I just don't get it ( I like Minecraft but who the hell is still buying it )

Suprised about the low entry of the PC Version of Wolfenstein but then again people are buying more and more digital PC games.

I have some software figures for UK. Will hope to post later today or on the weekend.

PS4 surpassed 1 million units of software LTD YTD during April. Xbox One was just short, but is probably there by now.

Edit: A previous revision of this post said LTD. It should have said YTD. The editors regret the error.

I was surprised to see Wolfenstein: The New Order on the charts since it was officially released two days ago, but it seems some retailers have been selling it since last Friday.

wait, just now?
those sound like some awful tie ratios, considering what we know from NPD
(or did you mean YTD)

Following up:

UK
Xbox One LTD: 2.15 million units of software
PS4 LTD: 2.40 million units of software

Retail only.

Wasn't expecting a massive difference, but that's quite closer than I expected. Interesting.
I expect that Sony has significantly more people like me: bought a PS4, bought a single retail game (KZ:SF), living off a PS+ subscription. Also, MS has traditionally sold more units of software per system than Sony.

Note: PS+ subscriber since PS+ launched. And, honestly, still waiting for true must-have PS4 game.

well I'm going to take a wild guess *cough* that the gap, relatively speaking, is larger in the UK than in the US, because PS4 software>Xbox One software when it's the reverse there

Interestingly enough I'm sure Sony is ecstatic with their software sales in both the US and UK relative to MS considering what it was like last gen

I wonder if there's people like me, where they've bought 14 full retail games, but due to UK pricing, only 2 are from UK retail (and one of them was bundled in the console).

This kind of regional tomfoolery (on the part of the publishers and platform holders) needs to end. It's just adding friction to a system that should be frictionless.

Exactly, and instead of getting better, Watch Dogs has just taken it to insanity levels. £59.99 or $59.99. It's gone beyond saving a few quid to full on £25 difference.

France week 20:

1 - Kirby Triple Deluxe 3DS - Nintendo
2 - Wolfenstein The New Order PS4 - Bethesda
3 - FIFA 14 PS4 - Electronic Arts
4 - Wolfenstein The New Order Xbox One - Bethesda
5 - Coupe Du Monde De La FIFA : Brésil 2014 PS3 - Electronic Arts

Was SmokyDave perma'banned and if yes why?

He made non politically correct joke in girl gamer/streamer thread.

But it wasn't that far ago so hopefully he isn't perma banned.

To be fair in the uk imo the X1 is catching up. On amazon bestseller x1 games are usually 1 behind the ps4. Wolfenstein and watch dogs. This started happening during the price cut. I wonder how many units the titanfall bundle moved.

Can we get figures of the unit sold for both ps4 and x1?

Looking at the best sellers list for the year.

Watchdogs PS4 is already at No.3 behind Minecraft and Titanfall XO while Watchdogs XO is in 23rd place.

Wolfenstein PS4 is at No. 54 while the XBOne version isn't on the list.

I won't say it's close just yet.

If you look at the sales chart for May, which is what I believe he's talking about with reference to the price cut, it's a slightly different story.

1. Watch Dogs (PS4)
2. Watch Dogs (Xbone)
4. Wolfenstein (PS4)
8. Wolfenstein (Xbone)

Pretty much paints a picture that 3rd party titles will definately move more on PS4. I think Fall/Winter will be interesting with so many titles by then.

looking at UK, France and German Charts, Germany is my favorite a good variety of genres and platforms well aside form Xbox. I think these 3 countries make up the majority of console gamers on EU right?

I suspect France has just as much variety if not more, you just can't see it from top 5 only.
