9 million PS4 and 5 million Xbox One units sold/shipped?

I think Sony would have shouted it from the top of a mountain if they had 9 million sold already. Better to wait on an official confirmation before we get ahead of ourselves.

I think they'll wait until they hit the 10 million mark before they make a big deal. Round numbers make better headlines.

Making a big deal about every million becomes menial after a while. Better to wait for a major milestone like 10 million.

That said, yes a comment from Sony or MS to confirm would be nice. would be nice

If it was over 9 million by now, Sony would make sure the world knew about it. Unless they're saving themselves for a PR announcement that contains a rounder figure.

With the Destiny, Last of Us, Drive Club, and Little Big Planet 3. I would wait until 10 million personally. Screaming every million looks trivial at this point.

Sony are most likely over 8 million by now. 9 million is definitely possible though. Is it still hard to find a PS4 in Europe that isn't the UK?

Sony will wait until 10 million sold before they make an announcement, as their last announcement was 7 million.

North of 5 million probably means that it's just a little over 5 million or else they would say it's close to 6 mil.

X1 is only releasing in 1/3 of the countries that the PS4 is currently in.
Just wait for the next month, a few more months, and end of the year when X1 is everywhere before we can judge who will win in sales.
It isn't fair that PS4 has a head start with Nov and in 32+ countries ahead of X1.
Next month NPD should be interesting with the new SKU Kinect-less X1 sales.

Available in Sweden at least.

EDIT:
Anyone knows the units shipped for WiiU (~6 millions??)

Can't tell if this is a joke post.

It looks serious... but the bold looks like parody...

Why? There is little doubt they have surpassed 8 million. Why is 9 million a milestone that they would surely let the world know about but not 8 million?

Prior to April they were selling ~1 million units a month, it is not hard to believe they have sold an additional ~2 million units over 3 months and are waiting until a bigger milestone (such as 10m) before the next press release.

Yeah, when they will release Xbox in Luxemburg (where you can already buy it) are going to skyrocket the worldwide sales.

It's such a favorable market for Microsoft that they thought it would be better to wait an entire year to release it...

To be fair, you can buy a Xbox One with kinect for around 300 SEK more than a PS4 here in Sweden even though that Xbox One is not released here.

I guess that Xbox One will get some marketing which will improve the situation. But early adopters could already buy the One.

Its just not fair.

There's a reason MS didn't find those territories important enough to launch in, one could also imply its unfair that Sony didn't have manufacturing capacity to meet demand for many months.

But life is unfair so we have to deal with it and take things as they happen. You should note that the Xbox is available for sale in most of the non launched countries in abundance, at cheaper prices than MS propose to launch at in some cases.

Germany is being flooded at the moment, but I guess this will change again starting September/October.

First Sony should be praised for launching in so many countries not the contrary, and second it's business, every unit sold counts.

Interview originated in Edge magazine. Anyone have the new issue in hand to see if they have any sources in there for the numbers?

edit just checked charts. They're guessing PS4 WW is 8.2M sold so at least that's not the source for the 9M number

For a porting of a 1yo game? Don't know, bro

Btw, actually Italy is well served. You don't see mountains of console around, bur you can easely find one
The primary audience would be people who only had 360 last gen and had to hear the media and their ps3 owning friend talk about tlou. It'd be another extra push for some of them to get ps4

If Sony is at 9mil now, I'm positive that they'll announce 10mil sold at gamescom.
Looks like we're nearly at a 2:1 rate between Ps4 and XboxOne now.

currently where i live Playstion 4 has the mindshare on lockdown. Even friends with xbox 360 want to upgrade to the ps4 because they believe its for the gamers. Of course what i just said was anecdotal evidence. I wonder if couple months from now can the kinectless X1 can make huge dent in the holidays. imo Holdiay 2014 will be the decisive.

Sony have been pretty eager to keep us up to date with sales numbers of the PS4, so I'd find it a bit surprising that they'd reach not just 8 million, but 9 million, and not brag about it. If they are at 9, then they're probably waiting to reach 10 mil before shouting about the latest PS4 numbers from the rooftops. 10's a good looking number.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Anyone with the latest Edge issue...see the original article.

Still, I think it's an error, the 9 millions number...Sony never "reported" 9 millions, it stopped doing it after it reached 7 millions.

Fair? HaHa

The PS4 could have released in the exact same countries as the X1 did and it would still have a hugely substantial lead.
