A lot of these arguments seem to be stemming from the theory/idea that first parties are what sells systems now. The 'killer app' of the system

Yet evidently the PS4 exists as an anomaly towards this. Like, the PS4 doesn't even really have a 'killer app' at the moment, and it still won't for the next few months. Yet it's still doing better than both the XBOne or Wii U

I feel like people are starting to lose touch with the way modern gaming has been progressing. Going by the "PS4 is fucked because no first parties" argument, the PS4 should have been fucked for the past 2 years. Like at this point people are just waiting for the PS4 to hit a stop so they can finally go "SEE, I TOLD YOU SO."

THIS JUST HAPPENED

It's such a cool as hell name. He was an excellent speaker as well.

Why should any gamer give rats ass about any 3rd party marketing deal? The only one who wins that is the 3rd party. The gamer gets nothing out of it. Sony has nothing for exclusives this fall it was a failure of the Sony management. They were depending on 1 game Uncharted 4 and it got delayed and now there is a giant hole in the line up. Hopefully next year Sony gets its act together and can actually deliver more AAA exclusives.

Why should I be upset that a game is delayed by a few months? Just because it misses some mythical "holiday" slot? I will enjoy a game just as much in early 2016.

If by "get its act together" we mean rush games out the door, I'd prefer to wait a little bit.

It's all about personal tastes. If I had my choice between that entire list of games or Tomb Raider, I would take Tomb Raider.

I get this, but I think he was explaining the exaggeration on the notion that Sony has no games at all versus not having games some people aren't interested in. The system will have games, just not the ones you want right now.

I'm still getting tomb raider but idk, I play games so nothing is ever out the equation.

Do games that released outside of fall not .count or something? It is a dumb argument. Someone buying a console has the entire library to choose from.

What does uc4 coming just a few months later result matter? Fall us loaded with big third parties. Will it suck cause its release date?

Persona 5 doesn't stand a chance of releasing this year. We haven't even seen gameplay. And I don't think it's PS4 having no games, more so that Xbox has Halo and Tomb Raider, while Sony really has nothing of that caliber.

If you think tomb raider is going to be a hot seller, man do I have a plot of land in the Arctic to sell to you. It's release date is the same as fallout. Fallout is going to destroy any game around it, tomb raider does not stand a chance.

I'm kinda jealous of everyone because I don't care about Final Fantasy, Shenmue, and The Last Guardian, so Horizon ended up being the only new announcement for me (it looks amazing).

Tomb Raider comes out the same day as Fallout 4 right? I mean, i hope they didnt know about that beforehand because if they think Tomb Raider can compete with fallout 4 they might be insane...

Fallout 4 might be one of the most impressive things i have seen so far

Agreed that FO4 was the most impressive thing from E3 this year, for me. They showed a ton of gameplay, a real indepth look at the world, crafting, the core components of the game, and a lot more. It had some very big surprises, the refuge building minigame and of course the promise of bringing PC mods to consoles. On top of that, everything looks very close to a "finished" state... And while it's great to get announcements like Shenmue 3 -- which people have been waiting for and expecting for two generations now -- we're still several years away from it, so it doesn't excite me nearly as much as something that we're less than five months away for.

But I'm also sour on the kickstarter idea. I just don't like it as a model for a game that your reveal at your E3 press conference, and then ask your fans to give you money to fund it. For instance, if Microsoft had Rare reboot Goldeneye or Perfect Dark for Xbox One, but then hung it on the caveat of a kickstarter, I think the reaction would be very negative... When you have a billion dollar company asking people to fund a multi-platform game that you're using as a big name at your E3 conference. It's different for a Tim Shaeffer project, where he basically says "Publishers don't have any interest in this game, but we know our fans do, so please get us started on this and we'll deliver." In this case, a publisher obviously has a lot of interest in it if they're willing to put their name behind it on their biggest gaming stage of the year.

But, then again, I haven't played the Shenmue series since Shenmue 1 on Dreamcast... never played 2 because I had moved onto a PS2 by the time it was released.

I have owned a PS1, PS2, PS3, Vita and I think the same. Besides a couple of games nothing else appeal to me to buy the PS4 right now. Like other poster said: Sony just sold me a PS4... in 2016-17.

I already played GOW3, Uncharted 1,2,3 and Tearaway a lot. Fantastic games but I already own them and have invested hundreds of hours into them. Also i'm tired of indies after playing dozens the last months.

Tired of indies? I...What? I guess you're just here to troll because I can't imagine someone would say something that bloody stupid intentionally.

I'm not sure of you're serious there. Or if you forgot about the massive slew of multiplats coming.

They said, multiple times, that it was the developers choice to go this route and use kickstarter. Who says Sony didn't want to foot the bill?

Tomb Raider would be coming out for PS4 but there's not a lot Sony can do if their competitor is throwing money to keep games off their system.

Amazing post! Can you do one for the Shenmue and Last Guardian reveals?

You are right, but Sony having no games at all is different from Sony not having any big triple-A games. People are saying the former when they mean the latter, and they also conveniently forget that Sony's already had Bloodborne and The Order this year while MS has had nothing comparative.

It's all about personal tastes. If I had my choice between that entire list of games or Tomb Raider, I would take Tomb Raider.

Good for you, but I'm directly addressing the claim that the PS4 has no exclusives for this winter. Which, as demonstrated, is clearly bullshit UNLESS we're bringing in all kinds of specific parameters which basically say "$50 million budget Triple-A first party title releasing in October or November", in which case then no, Sony can't match MS under those conditions for the pre-Christmas period.

You seem to have some very limited and focused gaming preferences.
Hardly. I play tons of stuff on iOS, XBone, PC, and Vita. It's just not been a great year for me and the PS4.

What games have you enjoyed this past year?
Fucking loads, man. Far too many to list, seriously. I play all kinds of stuff on all kinds of platforms. Indies to AAA, iOS to PC and everything inbetween.

I suppose some of my PS4 gaming has been neutered by playing multiplats on PC.

Sony is going to release the Playstation 20th Anniversary Controller this September:

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2015...th-anniversary-edition-launches-in-september/

I'm still a Junior so if someone wants to make a thread about it, go on ;)
Day one on this and the headset. Sony well and truly won E3. FF7, S3 and TLG are crazy. Everything else is victory laps.

About BC, at first I thought Microsoft's announcement was a bombshell, but after learning the details, I quickly sobered up. Only selected titles are compatible (the original publishers need to agree for every single title, which means many games will never become playable) and worst of all, you can't just play your discs but instead have to download a special version of each game.
That's nowhere near the same level as real BC like Wii, launch model PS3 and Wii U have. It's no replacement for an Xbox 360.
I certainly wouldn't sell my 360 and buy an Xbone for this half-measure, which would make me lose access to a ton of games.

First party support is the driving force for what propelled the PS3 forward while the 360 really lagged behind in first party support the last few years of its life cycle and I think people are still in that mindset. People are forgetting though that because Sony was still introducing new IP/first party content from their major studios in the last couple years of the PS3 that it's going to take some time for them to get the new projects out the door. Yeah 2015 was a little lean overall when they lost Uncharted 4, but this year has been a great year for first party games overall with Bloodborne and I'm looking forward to stuff this fall like Until Dawn, etc etc.

Here's something you should get used to hearing. Fuck the holiday season. Sony does have exclusives for the fall, there's a list right there. Considering my holiday season will be filled with playing fallout and not a first party game, much like a lot of people, having a stacked holiday means nothing if the rest of the year is a barren wasteland.

The problem is that most games are more than 1 year away... it's a long time, some people (including me) want something right now.
Until Dawn
Uc collection
UC4
Persona
Rime
Tearaway
Dragon Quest Heroes

And more.

None of these are a year away. Not to mention games that already launched don't disappear.

The problem is that most games are more than 1 year away... it's a long time, some people (including me) want something right now.

And you will have tons to play right now unless you simply have bad taste or aren't willing to either try something different or really committed to one platform which is an awful way to play games.

Not saying it's not ok to want something more but clearly, wanting stuff now now, without waiting is what has started this gen to already have a bad taste because of this mentality.

Sony E3 was fanservice at the highest level... And I'm ok with that.

You have to give people what they want it and Sony did it with a caveat: I'll "give" it, but for a price and won't come now, but in the meantime pick some multi and a few low budget exclusives.

This is what I don't understand from many of you, lol. It's obvious many poster on GAF are out of touch with the modern gaming landscape. Yeah, those 3 games are significant for enthusiasts who frequent gaming sites and message boards, but for the gaming landscape at large?

Younger gamers probably don't give much of a fuck about Shenmue 3 and FF VII. TLG is borderline, but Ueda games resonate for a niche portion of gamers to begin with. In fact, most people who joined the gaming landscape in the last few years don't have much of an attachment for eastern made game like those of us who grew up with older consoles like the Playstation, Genesis, Saturn, NES, SNES and N64. It's why you have enthusiasts screaming MEGATON when Nintendo announce Mother 1 for the Wii U VC while everyone else in the gaming world goes ?

Sony didn't "win" anything with this conference and I'm sure Shenmue 3 and TLG would / will be niche sellers at best. FF VII remake will fare better, but in 2015 you have wrpg like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 which will move over 10+ million copies each (Fallout 4 might be another 20+ million seller for Bethesda) along with significant critical praise.
So? Why should we give a fuck about any of that? How much these games sell, and what these games mean for the "gaming landscape at large," as you put it, are completely irrelevant to us. All that matters is that a large group of people will finally get to play games they've waited years for. I'd rather get to play them and they bomb, rather than not get to play them at all. I don't care whether younger gamers are interested in them or not, and nor should anybody else.

The Sony first party output last gen really had me excited for the PS4. It has been a major disappointment so far and it will be over 2 years after the PS4 launch before the first heavy hitter first party title is released in Uncharted 4.

Bloodborne was the sytem seller for many I think, and now that it's out for a couple of months and people want to move on, they're like. Ok, and now??
I doubt those people (me for example) want to see the company fail. That doesn't make any sense, there's zero benefit in that.

Wut. Sony covered all the bases. they showed COD,Assassins Creed, Destiny, Battlefront, Disney Infinity for the majority of Gamers. Games for the hardcore enthusiasts, Horizon, FF7, Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, Shenmue, they showed indies who are basically the A and AA studios these days, Sony did win E3, they had a stellar E3.

Probably the best conference, just given how many "holy grails" got announced for all the people out there, but I don't give one good solid fuck about Shenmue, TLG, or FF7. Rather see more P5 stuff before any of those. Horizon and SW Battlefront look really good and got me most excited.

UC4 is not this year.
Already played Tearaway.
If I could choose between Persona, Rime, DQH or Tomb Raider ill go with the last.
FC4, GTAV, TLOU, SD, etc etc already played on PS3.

I wanted a big game for me, for my tastes, right now. I'm going to buy a PS4, but now I think I can wait one more year.

EDIT: Forgot about Battlefront. I love SW and loved those games on the PS2. Still it will release on PC right?

Sigh. The "PS4 has no games" thing won't go away, and it's still bullshit.

July:
GOW3 Remastered

August:
Until Dawn : Why not
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture :
Volume

September:
Tearaway Unfolded
SOMA

October:
Uncharted Collection
Tales of Zestiria
Dragon Quest Heroes

Others likely for 2015 but not confirmed include Persona 5, Bloodborne DLC, Rime, Shadow of the Beast, The Tomorrow Children and probably others.

Ok you're right, but in comparison with the Xbox One, there's no "big" games like Tomb Raider, Halo, Forza. Personally, I'm only interested in Tales of Zestiria, and I'll buy Until Dawn and Tearaway at $20. Indies are good but not very my cup of tea (I only wait for Rime), and I'm fed up with unnecessary remasters like Uncharted Collection or GOW3 (it's my opinion). I think it's the same thing with many players...

PS : I seriously doubt Rime will be released this year.

I mean, I'm a 'lapsed' gamer who won't buy a PS4 until it's $199, I've never played Shenmue and I don't care for JRPGs.

But at some point you just got to give it up for Sony. This conference was not only the best since Nintendo 2004 (which sold the world on the DS, introduced us to Reggie and ended with the still-legendary Zelda reveal), but will enter the E3 vernacular as a synonym for 'mind-blowing'. "That was a good conference! Not, like, Sony 2015 good, but good!", people will say.

Persona 5 doesn't stand a chance of releasing this year. We haven't even seen gameplay. And I don't think it's PS4 having no games, more so that Xbox has Halo and Tomb Raider, while Sony really has nothing of that caliber.

Seems like you don't know how a lot of Japanese games announcements works.
Yoru no Nai Kuni for example was announced last month for the first time and it will be released in two months.

Wut. Sony covered all the bases. they showed COD,Assassins Creed, Destiny, Battlefront, Disney Infinity for the majority of Gamers. Games for the hardcore enthusiasts, Horizon, FF7, Last Guardian, Uncharted 4, Shenmue, they showed indies who are basically the A and AA studios these days, Sony did win E3, they had a stellar E3.

yup, they knocked it out of the park.

Why do you see TLG as shit?

For a game that's been in development hell for the better part of a decade, it looked borderline unplayable. Ridiculous screen tearing, graphics out of 2006, and it didn't look like it controlled especially well either.

I'm glad people are getting this game, don't get me wrong, but it's mostly because I'm sick of hearing about it. I expect it to sell about 50k copies LTD and review terribly. The hype for the game has always completely mystified me. I played Ico for about two hours and stopped because I was tired of fighting the controls. Shadow of the Colossus was even worse.

I've noticed there have been some genuinely angry people at Sony in regards to yesterday (Brad from GB, the above post, Cheech, etc.) and now that I've slept on it, I do understand it more. If you came in with the unrealistic expectation of having more first party games announced for the fall, it didn't do that whatsoever. Not only did it not do that, but it was one of the most insane press conferences ever made, one that will be talked about for years to come.

I don't like Final Fantasy, I've never played Shenmue, I probably won't get Last Guardian, but hell if that wasn't the most amazing press conference I've ever seen.

It was a load of smoke and mirrors. I'm annoyed with both Sony and Microsoft for different reasons, but Sony is especially painful because they have an incredible box just sitting there spinning wheels after 18 months. I'm playing Witcher on it ATM, and it's amazing, but the fact that we don't have Uncharted or anything at all this fall, TWO YEARS after the PS4's launch, is borderline insulting for people who bought the PS4 on blind faith.

At least with Microsoft, we got some genuinely new stuff (HoloLens, Rare's pirate game looked like it might be sweet). Sony glossing over Morpheus also doesn't fill me with confidence.
