Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Quick stuff from interviews

-they made multi-release since they would have to cut stuff out if they made it in one game. The detail of the game will be so dense, and you will be able to go to various locations within Midgar that you couldn't go before.
-there will be some stuff that has to be cut, but there will be lots of stuff added. overall volume will be big
-They are working with various companies outside, including CC2
-The battle system is real-time, action feel. The degree of action will be "Dissidia > Kingdom Hearts> FF7 remake" It will be more tactical.
-Although it's action style, it has ATB as well.
-You can control other party members, but you can keep control one if you want
-3 party members at a time like the original

Now the question is where does "part 1" end.

Thank you.

Some of that sounds good and some sounds a bit worrying. I hope the "cut content" isnt the world map. That would be such a bummer

So they had already said earlier that they are adding a lot of content and density that was in the originals and wanted to minimize what was cut. (So I don't know why people have been throwing fear to the walls over that.)

Glad to hear that the action is being kept even more minimal that KH. ATB is the way to go. 3 party member switch! That's 2 more than XV can do! Things are still sounding pretty good to me.

That seems to say pretty clearly that they split up the main game into multiple parts because they wouldn't be able to cram everything into one game, rather than having one main game and a bunch of spin-offs.

They're adamant to recreate the full experience, and then some (there'll be some surprises for the people who are already familiar with the story), but apparently that requires splitting it up.

I'll reserve judgment until I see how they're going to handle this in terms of pricing and releases.

This sounds fine to me. I agree.

There we go.

Shoutout to @tokyofog for translating some of the parts of the interview.

Nomura: VII in one work would turn into a digest. We judged that the remake must be full volume, so we decided to make [VII] multi-part.

Nomura: A subtitle for the VII remake would give the impression of a spin-off or sequel, so they avoided using one.

Nomura: If we make the characters reall, they'll look like real people and no one will recognize them, so we're aiming to balance.

Nomura: Advent Children models are too old, so they've been refining the graphics and balancing reality and deformation.

Aside from the CG shown at the beginning of the trailer, everything is in real-time. You can alter the camera angle during the train scene.

Cloud's appearance has to partially to do with the lighting and his pale skin. Nojima had said Cloud's sickly appearance is brilliant.

Cross-dressing scene will be included. Nomura has yet to work on the design, however.

Nomura: VIIR is completely different from Crisis Core's battle system. Not as actiony as Dissidia Arcade or KH but closer to that style.

Nomura: VIIR has ATB, but it's not the type where you wait for the gauge to fill up and then attack. It is connected with the action system.

Nomura: 3-member parties, all interchangeable and playable. You don't have to change characters if you don't want.

Nomura: The battle speed they're aiming for is Dissidia Arcade's. The battles we saw in the trailer are kind of like a standard to aim for.

Nomura went over the trailer so many times and doubted if it'd be all right to show, but the reaction he received has relieved him.

Nomura can't go into details about the battle system, but he said it's important to note that the ATB gauge turns red. Something significant.

I will be updating it as more info is shared.

What's the source for the interviews?

Sound like they try to make a full Midgar

Bye, Mr. Dolphin :(

Sounds kinda promising overall. Glad to have confirmation on the CC2 thing, though I wonder what other companies are involved.

Makes sense. Important to note they are also adding new content compared to the old game.

Still curious of the interaction between parts tho

Also YES

Yeah, I'm happy.

There really is a lot of rampant speculation going on. Some saying episodic release will actually effect whether you can go back to a previous area or whether this means it has a world map or not.

This news was the other shoe dropping...

But at the same time, I'm sure each part will be a full game's worth of content. The full story scenario of FFVII is kind of an arbitrary length that may or may not have any relevance to how long a game would be in a modern scope. It's not as if youre gonna get only 1/3rd of the 1997 game in any way but storytelling.

But I hope your stats and such will carry over between parts, and it still has the full world criss-crossing feel. If it's a bunch of linear games that are only flavoured like the the old game.... That would suck

Oh thanks! Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as doubting you or anything.

Also:
"Nomura: VII in one work would turn into a digest. We judged that the remake must be full volume, so we decided to make [VII] multi-part."

Just as many of us thought.

The article says that the remake's combat will be less action oriented than Kingdom Hearts, and will require you to think strategically.

Nomura says something like he wants the story to still be surprising (I can't tell whether he's saying that in regards to people who haven't played the original, or not) he also implies that there will be new content, or that the story will have some adjustments or something.

It also seems like the intention of the episodes is to flesh out the original so that it is deeper and grabs the interest of old fans, because it will offer a more elaborate telling of the original story.

Edit: lol late

But many have asked for it to be more action oriented. Just because you think it's trash doesn't mean it is.
Nah, the people that actually liked the game enough to want it remade would've liked the old battle system because they liked the old game or herald it as the next coming of Christ.

Changing that into something damn near unrecognizable to the original gameplay is a "who the fuck is excited for this" type move. Clearly it isn't people who say it's their favorite game, because if it's their favorite game they wouldn't want the core gameplay mechanics so drastically altered.

There, see folks? Nothing to worry about!

60 pages of faux outrage over incomplete information. You deserve this you all.

I think it's a shame this translated interview runs risk of being buried relative to the initial news. Actually hearing it this way, it actually sounds very reasonable. Certain stuff being cut is inevitable but I'm really happy to see they're doing their best to include as much stuff as possible. Along with stuff like using Unreal Engine and teaming up with Cyberconnect 2, it's just one of many ways they're doing the reduce the workload of what would otherwise be an absolute behemoth of a project while keeping the game great.

A shame that a single vague blurb led to so much misinformation being passed around, but oh well.

Wait, what? There's a contradiction right there.

What about the overworld? If it's cut, I'll be pissed.

This whole thing is contingent on how many pieces they split this thing into, and whether or not the price reflects the content. Three parts, $60 a pop, 20-40 hours each is ideal.

FF7 is my favorite and I'm fine with this move. Sorry you're so down on the combat.

I assume you watched the trailer? Did you see anything in the trailer that looked like Final Fantasy VII gameplay to you? Did it strike you as the same thing you remembered in 1997 but with upgraded graphics? Or was it a wholly different game?

We can argue about why they're calling it Remake or why they're not making the remaster that most FFVII fans have been demanding all this time, but it's just not that game. It's something inspired by FFVII, along with Advent Children and FFXV and other factors and developer interests.

This new Final Fantasy VII product is a remake, same as how The Fly was remade and and Battlestar Galactica was remade and Red Dragon was remade (twice.) This new Final Fantasy VII product is not a remaster.

So to get up in arms over it being episodic, you're getting angry that this game which is 100% different gameplay from a game that shares its name with is now 120% different from it.

You and I both can be angry that it isn't what it isn't, but it isn't what it isn't. No need to get even angrier as it moves further away from the game that it isn't and instead becomes whatever it is that they're making instead.

Now you're just being deliberately obtuse. Look at Gears Ultimate Edition or Halo 2A. Moreso H2A as Gears was closer to a remaster. H2A had a hole separate engine running on top of the original. It wasn't just an HD remaster. Granted it's an FPS so the comparison stops there as a full JRPG REMAKE has yet to be done, but that's what this was introduced as.

It's a remake. It's not a different game. They didn't say "Introducing FFVII reborn, a game inspired by FFVII". They weren't marketing it as some sort of spiritual successor. FF VII was a complete game. Chopping it up into pieces stands a good chance of ruining it. Further, if they would just keep the damn turn-based combat, MAYBE they wouldn't be as budget and/or time restrained.

The worst part is that this is basically what several of us have been describing for a while in the thread lol.

Once the full thing is translated maybe a new thread with real info would be worth it.

Some of this is really cool. Getting to explore more parts of Midgar is like a dream come true.

Now the only thing SE need to do to ake this right is ensure each "episode" is VERY meaty. No like 8 hours per episode thing.

I really wonder when we will get episode one. Late 2016? I mean Midgar looked pretty damn far along
