4chan in trouble - Martin Shkreli wants to be the new moot

People here wanna talk about places they're surprised are still around. SA tops that list for me.

I still read D&D and Cinema Discusso but SA is definitely a place that's lost its luster, with a user see that's pretty much the same forever. The LF spinoff forum The Rhizzone feels even more insular.

Hopefully it all works out. 4chan is sort of the origin of a bunch of stuff that trickles down to the rest of the net. No matter how messed up things get there, eventually it filters through some more sanitary avenues and loses it's "4chan is a cesspool"-ness without anybody really realizing it came from there.

Just fuse /vr/ into /v/, then make /vp/ the containment board for everything nintendo related.

All of /v/'s problems solved in one fell swoop. Think about it.

That would just create an anti-Nintendo circlejerk on /v/

What? It can't be that expensive to maintain that site right? It's not that big. I'm sure Neogaf has like 30 times the traffic of it, and it barely has ads.

what do you think

I know a lot of people dislike 4chan but I still find boards like /vg/ to be incredibly useful because of how dedicated people in those generals are to their game/subject and /a/ is the best resource and discussion forum for anime and manga.

4chan is hilarious from time to time and it would be a shame to see it go down the plughole. Also some general threads are actually very informative depending on the subject without much if any shitposting at all.

is this like the sweater scene from The Devil Wears Prada where you explain to us that we mock 4chan without realizing that all of the memes and humor we use were selected for us by the very people we deride

I barely know and/or visit the site, yet I would certainly consider the day it goes under as one to remember. For better or worse, 4chan is an integral part of the Internet culture and history.

I agree on both those points. GAF's JoJo threads, for example, feel like a watered-down version in comparison.

I like the new Admin's approach. /aco/ gets the fart-porn enthusiasts off /co/ and /qst/ moves the the flood of "quest" threads off /tg/. On the other hand this whole thing could be a gambit to scam and sell people's info to advertisers again.

Welp, apparently I was massively wrong about the traffic of Neogaf and 4chan. I honestly thought it was much smaller than it is.

Do you think the "Ellie, we really are the Last of Us" shit actually came from GAF?

I can see the porn boards being spun off into their own site.

I very much hope Shrkeli stays as far away from 4chan as possible.

I'm not cultured enough to have seen that movie but I'm guessing the answer is, yes.

See 4chan is alot like a Religion

People are averse to it and deride people who believe in God
They say that their religion has caused much suffering in the world
They question how people could still follow that religion
But modern society was built out of that religion, and they still hold some power

bless 4chan.

think about it

The adult boards can be of scientific value but if that is the sacrifice I have to endure to get rid of /pol/ then so shall it be.

/v/'s one of the worst boards and also one of the most popular. Killing /pol/ won't stop /v/ from being a shitpool.

Kill off /r9k/ please god. Leave the containment boards intact. Merge some of the somewhat related boards.

4chan has to live. If it dies we'll see an unprecedented /pol/ leak that will affect the whole internet.

Option 1 is the best. Kill half of the porn boards (obviously the gif boards, Reddit has plenty of gifs/webms), b, pol, and keep the low-traiffic niche boards (they're the nicest). I only really enjoy the porn pics and music sharing as well as some co, g, and v for laffs. It's in its dark ages for sure and I am much more aware of the bigotry that permeates all of the boards to some extent, but damn, they have great music taste and it's one of the best porn sites. Would miss it a lot if it completely died. I'd rather that happen than have it owned by Shkreli.

Has there been a good greentext in the last like, five or six years? It's all "OHHOHO IT WAS ALL A RUSE *insert meme*" now.

The blackface threads here are bad enough without the spillover from a dead /pol/

This for fuck's sake. /r9k/ serves no purpose other than the occasional visit to laugh and feel better about yourself compared to the pathetic losers who post there.

/mu/ will be dead once /pol/ and /TV/ type stuff infect it.
Until then it has the best memeing and discussions on the site.

Did it get better? I hung out there for about a year, and then To Pimp a Butterfly came out, /pol/ showed up and camped out there, and I left about 2 months later

Yes? Pepe and Doge are a decade old at this point aren't they but only got mainstream traction due to the classic bored reddit user digging up 4chan archives.

Part of me wants to say to remove /b/, it hasn't been a containment board and most of its user base grew up and gained interests/moved to other boards. I can't think of anything noteworthy it's done since what, 2010? Yet you still see people here calling it an internet hate machine when it's just been an internet meme machine for just as long.
