Next week starts Christmas sales period in Japan (From Nov 23rd). In other words, this is the bottom week, and from now sales should rise. Increases for leggy games should be expected.

Cool, thanks! (I don't know any of the timezones you posted but I expect to see the numbers tomorrow hahaha).

Dengeki is the only tracker that counts the games separated right? (for Pokemon, Yokai and co.) What happened in the end with the Dengeki numbers by the way?

Not sure. After the member posting them suddenly stopped, nobody picked them up so... no numbers, except sometimes when me or someone else takes a look at their data and post it here.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind posting them, but I don't have a fancy script like the one Chris uses for MC/Famitsu, so it'd take too much time every week to transcribe everything (not to mention innacuracies for data, which is a big no-no.

Gamer.ne was just 14 min late.

Media Create Sales: Week 46, 2016 (Nov 14 - Nov 20)

01./00. [3DS] Pokemon Sun / Moon <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2016.11.18} (¥4.980) - 1.590.629 / NEW
02./00. [3DS] Pokemon Sun / Moon (Pokemon Sun / Moon Dual Pack) <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2016.11.18} (¥9.960) - 151.379 / NEW

Total Sales:

[3DS] Pokemon Sun / Moon # <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2016.11.18} (¥4.980) - 1.893.387 / NEW

http://www.4gamer.net/games/117/G011794/20161123002/

For comparison:

[3DS] Pokemon X / Y # <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2013.10.12} (¥4.800) - 1.866.570
[3DS] Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire # <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2014.11.21} (¥4.937) - 1.508.665

[NDS] Pokemon Pearl / Diamond <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2006.09.28} (¥4.800) - 1.588.734
[NDS] Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2009.09.12} (¥4.800) - 1.442.990
[NDS] Pokemon Black / White <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2010.09.18} (¥4.800) - 2.557.779
[NDS] Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2012.06.23} (¥4.800) - 1.561.738

Second best opening after Black / White.

So Famitsu says SM is down from XY, while MC says it's up. Hmmm... I wonder what Dengeki will say!

Also, that's a lot of dual-packs, I remember those were more limited for previous games.

Media Create is tracking PS4 PRO separately now too. Superior tracker is back!

Pokémon continues to be the main topic at stores. From now we should see an increase for Nintendo games, and the Christmas campaign seems quite crowded. Some stores are targetting Sun and Moon not only for kids, but also for the female population, especially Sun Edition. Furthermore, all kind of merchandising is arriving, as this boxers with Gengar.

At Sofmap Akiba, we have Persona 5 The Animation ads. So, it seems the airing for The Day Breakers will be interesting to follow.

Yakuza 6 is also about to release, but reservations are ok-ish, though.

It's interesting the bigger gap of this entry compared to the last two on 3DS (I guess more casual gamers, that don't tend to pre-order, bought it directely on stores).

I wonder if that means bigger following weeks as well.

Nintendo will be happy seeing the Pro struggle. Sony have increased the cost and difficulty for Japanese Devs bringing games to the Sony platform by creating two systems and a very top down policy on support. If most in Japan do not have a Pro and your game is targeted to the domestic audience then why would you not go to the system that is easiest to develop for.

Especially when most PS4 owners are likely 3DS owners who Nintendo will be looking to bring on board with the Switch. Seems to me the market will go even more extremely to handheld.

Pro was never aimed at the Japanese audience. It was done to capitalise on the audience that desired greater hardware power, which is primarily the West. I think you fail to realise that one of the biggest reasons PS4 gets such good Japanese support is due to its global success.

I wonder if it's not due to Pokémon GO, since mobile players are usually more casual than dedicated console owners, and thus less likely to pre-order something.

Yeah, we played this game before with the Wii U. In the end total sales matter more than anything, major Japanese publishers will go where those are.

Though, are you sure that's the right version of Samurai Warriors? Seems unbelievable that the Vita version would be doing better than PS4.

Yeah, I thought so also, but PSV version is #33 in the overall daily ranking, and PS4 version is #85 in the overall daily ranking. What is interesting though, is that if you see the weekly ranking, where they charted as pre-orders, PS4 is higher. So, it seems PSV had less pre-orders but a better first day sales and better legs. But at the end of the day, it depends on how much stock Rakuten handles, so I don't think it's very representative.

Thanks. I'm sure it's going to be an under-performance either way, it was just interesting to see.

Samurai Warriors is heading for very low numbers so I don't think it makes any difference if PS4 or Vita version comes first. As for Pokemon there are 2 things to be watched. What legs it will show inside and mainly after holidays, since X/Y died when holidays of 2013 ended, and if it will see a rise at digital sales from the irrelevant numbers Pokemon and Yo-kai Watch usually. Not that there will be any drastic change but if among buyers bigger ages were indeed more than before it could go from 1-2% closer to 5.

PREDICTION LEAGUE DECEMBER 2016

Predict how much these titles will sell in the month (from Nov 28 to Dec 25):

[3DS] Nintendo 3DS Hardware (28 days) -
[PS4] PlayStation 4 Hardware (28 days) -
[3DS] Pokémon Sun / Moon [2nd month sales] (28 days) -
[PS4] Final Fantasy XV (27 days) -
[3DS] Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (25 days) -
[3DS] Miitopia (18 days) -
[PS4] Yakuza 6 (18 days) -
[3DS] Yo-kai Watch 3: Sukiyaki (11 days) -
[PSV] SaGa: Scarlet Grace (11 days) -

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deadline: November 30 2016 09:00 am (EST)

Attention:
  • Remember for some games it's not only the 1st week.
  • Multiplatform entries are the combined available sales of each platform described.

Rules:
  • Do not edit your post after the deadline. If you do, you'll be disqualified.
  • The official monthly hardware sales will be the sum of weekly numbers for all versions of the system available from Famitsu.
  • The official monthly software sales will be the latest total or the sum of the weekly numbers if the title is release before the period available from the Famitsu Top 30.
  • The official monthly sales for multi-platform releases will be the combined available sales of each platform shown in the title entry.
  • The official monthly sales for games with multiple versions will be the combined available sales of each version shown in the title entry.
  • Any game missing in the Famitsu top 30 will be taken out of the predictions.

I wasn't going to include Final Fantasy XV because we already predicted for its first week sales and it is a game that will be very frontloaded. But I decided to include it because it is the only big December title now that Yo-kai Watch series is in severe decline. Let's see how the 3rd version will perform this year compared to the 3rd version of Yo-kai Watch 2 which sold a whooping 1,72 million units in its first 2 weeks.

>puts up another game in a series that will also have a severe decline

let me guess : nintendo will save the market in japan

The gains that Sun and Moon made on first week impulse sales says positive things about its eventual legs, no? Casual, non-preordering customers seem interested.

Square Enix released the full transcript of their fiscal call.

There wasn't much this time around, but the main points were: http://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/news/pdf/17q2outline.pdf
- They're going to do things like beta testing, user feedback sessions, and longer pre-launch QA periods to ensure quality among their mobile games. They noted we would see that starting with their second half games, and we've already seen Dissidia delayed and Bravely Default get a beta, so they're following through there. The reason for this is that their first half titles did poorly compared to all their other recent successes.
- They noted that next fiscal year will be made up primarily of Japanese games as they just released a bunch of Western games. This is kind of a no duh situation.
- Their statements about their released console games were mostly about how things are early, talk about how digital the company is, and some basic explanations of financial mechanics, so we can read that as "We don't want to say if sales are good or not yet until we see the tail end."
- They didn't say much about their remaining non mobile releases in either a positive or negative fashion, and in fact made a statement that was incredibly neutral on this front. You can probably read that as some amount of uncertainty, which strikes me as appropriate given how this year has been going for everyone both domestically and abroad.
- There were some minor statements about things like setting up cafes to support watching eSports, but basically it was an empty presentation. Square Enix only does presentations every six months, so we most likely won't be getting an update on how they feel about all the titles from this year until May.

PS4 Pro drop was expected, it's Japan after all so I don't know why people are acting like this means it's a failure or even celebrating its "death". The western audience is where the Pro is most definitely targeted at so we'll have to wait for those numbers.
Also, I can see the Switch being big in Japan if Nintendo plays their cards right. Titles like Splatoon, Pokémon and Animal Crossing will most definitely be big over there, do not fuck this up Nintendo.

Second The Snack World 3DCG short debuting alongside third Yo-kai Watch movie on December 12th.

http://www.eiga-yokai.jp/news/index.php

First one debuted alongside second YW movie last year.

Unless there's no change, anime series and mobile game are out in April, 3DS games in July. So unless there's a delay, January CoroCoro is when we will start getting concrete stuff for The Snack World.

Are Sun/Moon's legs not expected to take a hit with the Switch coming out so soon? Maybe because the people who will be buying them in 2017 are more casual players who won't be buying the Switch right away?

At December and January there are the first big PS4 games with PS3 versions absent.

How well do you expect RE7 to do? I have a suspicion it'll be (bio)hazardous to Capcom's financials.

This is extremely anecdotal, but some of my friends seem to think it's a PSVR-only game. That will not help.

FFXV will collapse and Yakuza 6 will drop from a bit to a lot.

I would put REVII somewhere in the middle.

Super looking forward to this! I wonder if Snack World will be a global release franchise this time for Level-5.

This is probably anecdotal as well, but I haven't seen that much in terms of promotional initiatives so far, as well as general excitement (especially here on GAF), in the months after the announcement. I suppose there will be a bigger boost as December comes (including a PSX trailer, I'm sure it's happening), but it still surprised me. It's possible my impressions are wrong, though.

Well, we barely know anything about Resident Evil 7 despite it releasing in just two months, combat, setting, story, a demo that isn't related to the main story, helicopters with umbrella logos. Capcom has been very secretly with the game, I don't think they've even released a full trailer since E3.

There's nothing to be hyped about, and similar to Final Fantasy, Resident Evil is in a bad place after 6, not as bad as FF of course, at least RE spin offs still sell well.

Let's say ever big PS4 game from here until the end of February just bombs mildly and this is how the best selling games on the system look like by then.

Final Fantasy XV - 1.1m
Resident Evil 7 - 500k-600k
Metal Gear Solid V - 500k
Yakuza 6 - <500k
Persona 5 >400k

Dunno if it will help RE7 but the last Resident Evil movie releases around the same time as the game. Going by boxofficemojo RE films have made pretty decent money in Japan (and WW).
