Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
You missed Enter the Gungeon and Assault Android Cactus from last year. Dont miss out on those!

Anyone here played GNOG? I'm gonna play that at EGX in April.

Played Tokyo 42, it's awesome! It's like Syndicate mixed with Hitman.

Tokyo 42 - I had no idea I'd be so into a top-down isometric fusion of Syndicate and Hitman but much more vertical?! It's the future (2042), no one can die. You're an assassin. The dialogue is hilarious, and so is the world. The tilt shift effect looks great. You can shift around the perspective with Q and E, much like many strategy games. Jumping around ("soft parkour") from building to building feels cool, because when you jump, there is a circle showing you where you'll land and you've got a hover so you have enough time to judge your landing. You can take contracts in this open world, and I kept on doing the most rewarding one cause when bullets/rockets/grenades start flying from the yakuza, it's bullet hell! I had a lot of trouble with the fluctuating grenade arc, cause you gotta time it when it comes down instead of from bottom up. This has potential for greatness.

Spark the Electric Jester just got a firm release date of April 6th.

I can't wait to play that one. The demo builds have been incredible.

Any word on FURI 2?
Really digged the game and it's definitely my 2016 GOTY.
Also was received pretty well & from Gaf as well. Just bring it! & that new OST which is definitely gonna be as awesome as the 1st one.

The PSVR demo didn't impress as much as I had hoped. It's peaceful, but the heads in the demo seemed a bit nebulous when it came to their puzzle-like qualities. I'm still interested, but I get the feeling it may be another one of those games where I end up enjoying the art far more than the gameplay. Happened last with Hohokum.

Most Anticipated:
1. Cuphead
2. Little Nightmares
3. Vane
4. Shape of the World
5. Rime

Others (with many of the release dates unknown):

The Pedestrian - 2.5D platformer with a larger puzzle mechanic
Fulcrum (no clue if it's a 2017 release) - a first person, minimalist snowboarding game from the dev of FRACT OSC
forma.8 - Releasing 2/23 - a beautiful looking metroidvania reminiscent of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Snake Pass - A 3D platformer based around a creature that can't jump and has no legs. Who thought that would be a good idea!
What Remains of Edith Finch - I don't know much about it but I loved The Unfinished Swan.
Myriad - weird, SHMUP-y, minimalist-y glitch-art-y madness
Wandersong - a 2D platformer based around singing with a lovely aesthetic and charming whimsy
Knights and Bikes - Rex Crowle from Media Molecule is like the indie Tim Schafer (granted Tim's pretty indie too)
Ray's The Dead - A mash-up of the 80s and zombies, It's Thriller in video game form
Hob - An intriguing world with a great cell-shaded art style
Perception - I'm always interested in games that try to explore blindness
A Light in Chorus - Pointillism: The Game!
Prey for the Gods - a Shadow of the Colossus rip-off, but who doesn't want more SotC
Scarf: Walking with Souls - A 3D platformer with a morphing scarf and another great cell-shaded look
Sea of Solitude - excellent watercolor-like art style with an underlying brooding tone
Endlight - a weird, blocky, bullet hell thingy with the description 'survive a concrete whirlwind'
Olivia and Spike: Dimension Jumpers (I have no clue when or where this will release or if it is still in development) - a 3D platformer with a dimension swap mechanic

And for 2018: Lost Ember

I think I'm most hyped for Below and Mount & Blade II

The great thing about Indie gaming is there is always something that you weren't expecting that ends up on your GOTY list, last year was Factorio and Rimworld for me.

There was a trailer I saw in the last month or too that was for a game that was heavily inspired by Limbo and Inside coming out that I don't remember the name of. Anyone know what it might be? Looked really good.

Edit: Figured it out. Toby: The Secret Mine

No one has mentioned Freedom Planet 2 yet? FOR SHAME!

Get ready for the return of the title that made my game of the year when it launched. It not only reached the level of classic Sonic it surpassed it and went off into a new evolution of its own building from that foundation with better boss fights and combat to enjoy plus fully voiced (and excellently done btw) story and characterizations that were fantastic. Plus each character plays dramatically different from one another and gets their own exclusive level and areas in levels to explore.

Buy the sequel folks and if you missed the original buy it too. Definitely a top title to look for this year.

I saw a live demo at a 'demo night' in Montreal last week. Fantastic stuff.

Oh, and for me 'the last Night' is a strong contender, being a huge Another World/Flashback fan.

edit: and apparently I am a bit optimistic on 2017 release :)
That was then

This is now (well, at least sometime in 2016)

When was the last time we heard anything new about Cuphead? I haven't been following too closely but I feel like it's been quite a while. Really hoping it makes 2017.

It's been out on PC for a while, and I didn't think it was any good. The look and gameplay suggest Limbo, which is what sold me as well, but it's a entirely different level of Hell.

How can there be so few mentions? About 100 incredible promising and interesting games come out 2017 (and why are people still categorizing "indie"?)...
This year is by far he most insane years for games.
Up until last year, there were maybe 1 or 2 great "big games" (Usually Naughy Dog ones), and some smaller ones.. Last year started with an insane amount of high class projects, and this years (and beyond) it's just.. beyond words.
