The PSN update system is a nuisance.

Hands down my biggest frustration this gen is the amount of time it takes for system/game updates. I was gonna pick up FIFA the other night and then realized it'd probably be an hour or so AT LEAST before I can play between installing and downloading/installing patches.

I went to play Destiny the other night and had to wait fifteen minutes for the 5.0 update to download and by the time it installed I'd already gotten sucked into Stardew Valley on the Switch. At the very least let us have updates download and standby like they do on phones.

You definitely didn't have a PS3 then, cause you think this gen is bad, oh boy

Stardew Valley on Switch will also receive future updates that will prevent you from playing as they download. Why bring that up?

Honestly do you want to go back to a time where games were shat out with little to no post release support?

yeah, I don't get this too.

I am much more annoyed the system locks out around 30GB of storage for system updates when I don't believe I have ever seen one over a few GB's.

Also "a few minutes" for some is an hour or more for others.

btw,

1. You are unable to look at your friends list or interact with them in anyway.

2. You are unable to visit the PSN store.

3. You are unable to do anything which require any sort of dependence on PSN in any capacity.

that's unclear

4. The updates are never installed in the background, which means you are forced to restart your PS4, wait for it to update itself, then watch it restart again. This can happen several times depending on the update.
same for firmware/OS updates on iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS, and any other OS

I thought this thread was a legitimate complaint until OP outlined his issues.

LOL

....If you don't play the system for months, then why does 5 whole minutes to update bother you so much for a system you don't even use? (Considering the time period from when the last update was released which is usually 6 or more weeks out..a whole like 2.5 or more months)

Like the PlayStation is doing exactly what it's supposed to do here...it seems like you are the problem and this is straight up a personal problem. I have never had this issue. Keep it on auto update and on rest mode and your problem will literally be solved. I tend to like to know when the update is available and pick and choose when to download rather than auto update since some updates can brick or mess up something that worked fine before the previous update. So pick a poison
