Dang I missed all the fun!

Hope Murky nerfs are live for Katowice. I like that he's more viable, but he's a terror right now.

The matchmaking algorithm was having a field day throwing stuff at us so you didn't miss too much I would wager. I should have gone training like I was supposed to lol.

Since Lucio has been released i've played 12 games in QM. I've never seen him on a team, first time i see this. Is he not popular ?

Well he's a support with a heavy focus in utility and lack of damage. It's a harder sell with the general population I suppose.

Rehgar was my first love with this game but haven't played him much in months, he feels almost perfect if only he could self ancestral he'd be perfect.
Ya, now that we have a couple more supports in the game I feel like it's OK if they put that back in his kit. Seems so wrong not being able to self cast it.

Because of that clusterfuck in mid at bootybay. When you asked for help after tribute, I tunneled visioned to go at said coordinates but ran straight into a welcoming party from the opposing team. Tried to gust them away but mistimed it and artanis swapped me right back into the rest of their team.

I thought that since it was you that was asking for assistance that it was safe to go but I was severely mistaken. It was just the icing on the cake of a series of stupid errors that I made over the course of the evening that culminated to this point. I started to project my rage unto you and was about to swear up a storm but I took a step back, analyzed what happened and concluded that I was at fault all along and should shut up. Which I did.

Lol. Well we were up and I wanted to fight. I pinged it hoping the others would come, but they did the bruiser camp instead while you and I were close, you actually moved to the ping and I recognized we weren't gonna fight. Just because someone pings doesn't mean you gotta do it. At least be more aware of the minimap next time. Voice would've helped that situation.

You were the tank and our main initiator in our comp. If you do a call I'm more likely to follow it. However, like I said, I didn't lash out because I eventually recognized that I did fuck up (again). It was just that I was making silly mistakes and overextensions all over the evening and that situation tilted me pretty hard. I had a bad start but eventually calmed down and even had a 16 takedown streak during that one. I was doing good gusts to save our bacon from a stimed bloodlusted odin and I let my guard down for a moment because hey milly needs help it should be safe right?

The more I play with you guys, the faster I'll learn through fire and hell. Yesterday I learned to be more discerning in how I interpret pings and how I should act on them (even when sometimes you spam the map for no reason other than being obnoxious). I'm getting better at keeping track of the minimap during mid to late game. Early game laning I tend to fall back to old habits of dota 2 and not expect ganks because of big map which I will work on.

I operate under the assumption I'm always about to get ganked by some cocksucker in the bushes near me. Unless you see 4 showing on map, assume they're hunting you

Which is funny because I have the map awareness of a hawk in FPS but I'm no better than a dumb bolt in an MOBA.

Hah. We've talked about this before. I can't figure out how you smoke us so bad in OW but struggle at times in HOTS. OW definitely takes more skill to reach Diamond like you did. I guess maybe it could be the FPS "I can secure this objective/kill on my own" mentality biting you from time-to-time?

We'll have a grudge match right out of the gate between Quackniix and Michael Udall.

What's the grudge? I've either forgotten or missed it.

Depending on which hero I'm playing, a single ping can often go unnoticed. I think 2-3 pings is the way to go. A lot of us make the mistake where we think the team is with us or travelling in the same direction / towards the same destination only to find ourselves alone and caught out. Playing as a support can be better because you typically attach yourself to the tank / team -- unless I'm playing Kharazim (Ytar guides my path) or soaking as Malfurion with moonburn.

Yeah, I did that twice yesterday and in general we do it a lot as a group. That simple mistake/over confidence/dog after a bone lyfe.

Actually find him to be pretty effective. The shields, the portals, and most of all the free fucking stacks of Q. Murky is a dream for stacking the Master's Touch, and you get it and can stack it while Murky is still shitty before he gets insane starting at 13. The problem is if you only play QM you are bound to hit Murky due to specialist vs. specialist matchmaking. In that case, I'd agree, yeah that sucks to know you'll face one. Outside of those scenarios he's popping up a lot less now, though.

Honestly anyone with spell damage is much better against him than they were pre-rework because the rework basically negated the way auto attackers countered him so hard. If he sticks on you, you're still screwed, but if it's an actual team fight I find the Gul'dan's and Jaina's of the world to be far more threatening than any of the AA guys now.

Tbh it might just be my general distaste for murky clouding my thoughts about it. On ptr tho, you try to hit your q and murky e's it and ur just like arghhh. Medivh can help ppl get away from murky's infinite danger but in terms of killing murky it's a bit rough

But yeah qm mm and wanting to play medivh isnt great for me atm lol

Had the weirdest thing happen today. I first pick hover TLV in unranked on garden and someone complains. I say I'm still gonna pick them and he ended up banning them just so I wouldn't pick them. I thought to myself which is the trolliest hero in retaliation and since I hate Gazlowe I just first picked Chromie.

No complaints, not a squeak. I just picked the easiest to counter hero in the game first and no one had an issue after TLV was too much.

Given our opponents were morons and we destroyed them but still in what world are Vikings a bad pick on Garden.

I got on last night, but it was too late.

Yeah, you faked me out. You were on and kio was on and proto was getting on and I whispered you but you didn't respond til you finished the game to say you were heading out. In the meantime, I had logged on with them. Then you came back like 20 minutes later and I thought you were staying, but no.

So we all were on and played but you disappeared, and then of course you come back after we leave. Ketch schedule strikes again.

Well, Safety Bubble is a 14 sec cooldown and your Q is 7. If he wastes bubble to dodge one Q that's good for you, and you'll have another ready to start spamming before he gets his bubble back.

I've had some Medivh's just sit on my ass with their Q in the end of the laning phase. Fortunately, they get so excited about being able to get stacks that they overextend and get rekt by the rest of my team, however.

Do agree that post 13 it's hard for Medivh to kill him reliably due to the danger of being close, but he can make it easy for you to ramp up your own damage earlier than usual in some ways.

your (HOTS) world unfortunately =/

Well I've only dabbled in MOBAs since like 2013 and even then I wasn't really pushing it while in the FPS realm I've basically been playing them since I was able to hold a mouse and keyboard (even then with Wolf3d you didn't need a mouse). It probably just comes down that I'm so comfortable mechanically in FPS that it's just second nature and can concentrate on the more pressing things. There's also the fact that in FPS you can just use the sound design and level flow to predict where people are and where they will be. There's nothing like that in MOBAs except a stupid small minimap in a corner which is counter-intuitive but makes sense in the context of that video game.

I definitely need to be more selfish in my overall play and act less like a hero.

What's the grudge? I've either forgotten or missed it.

This little gem right there. Here's also the general shade to NA from him.

We playing tonight? I should be able to play for a few hours.

I'll be on tonight.

I'd love to play with you all, but noone ever invites me.

Sorry I think I forgot to add you.

Lemme kno if you need ppl for an inhouse

It would be so fun but we already have trouble running a full 5 man. Don't think it'll ever work again.

Also apparently people still don't get Ring of Frost in lower tiers. Opposing Medivh landed a real nice Leyline Seal and Jaina walks in and RoFs with all of us in the middle. We just walked out when it's over.

Chromie gives people the biggest hate boners apparently. People would not stop diving me with heroes really unsuited to do so, like Sylvanas. Think about that first and pick someone that can dive. Don't E in ignore everyone else pummeling you run after me while I just drop a trap and walk away.

I think my unranked MMR has to be lower than anywhere else. I get the biggest morons in that queue, having much better experiences in QM even.

You've been MOBAing longer than all of us in the group except maybe proto (who played some League) and Ketch who played Dota.

I started in the HOTS Alpha in 2014.

God damn. Quacknix is now my favorite HOTS player. Such shade much snark.

It would be so fun but we already have trouble running a full 5 man. Don't think it'll ever work again.

Same. I'm sure there's enough HOTS GAFers in NA to do inhouse regularly but not enough that we know/actually play with.

Anyone know a lot about computers? My knowledge isn't what it used to be. I'm looking at this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-g1...hard-drive-silver-red/5614800.p?skuId=5614800

Just curious if it's worth the money? Not looking to fool around and build my own anymore.

Looking at this chart. It looks close to what you can pay by building it yourself but with a processor that is a generation old. To me, it looks ok but since I always build my stuff I can't say for sure.

Yeah but I only have one account and I still haven't crossed the 400 quick match games played. Big difference in intensity of play I would say hehe. I maybe have been corrupted by the idea of carries since I started with Dota 2. In any case, I'm sure I'd catch up eventually if I played regularly. I should stop comparing myself to you guys and just keep at it.

Hmm. I mean I can get it today which is a huge plus. I'm on an pc I built in 2012 with minimal upgrading since. It's gotten super slow aside from what I have installed on the ssd which is just games anyway. I really don't want to build, nor wait around any longer and I asked in the pc thread and of course I got ignored.

Yeah we've got a few thousand games on you. hotdoggies has me at 2009 on my main account and I've probably got another 1000 total on my alts combined.

I don't think comparing yourself to us is what is hurting you. It's just being too eager for blood. Gotta get with that passive lyfe or retreat when you realize you are out in front if your team isn't following/you aren't supposed to be there.

Just by pricing the parts I can on pcpartpicker I think it's a good deal. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RWRxkT

Just those parts total $769.97 That's missing the mobo, the power supply Windows and a couple other things.

Since I don't know your financial situation I'm afraid of giving you a concrete answer. It's like every situation in a MOBA ... it depends. It will be a clear upgrade from what you currently have for sure. You won't extract the best performance for the money you'll pay on this rig which is also a given. Have a look there to compare processors/graphic cards to see what jump in performance you'll get. It's specced like a midrange gaming PC that should give you solid 1080p/60fps high settings for at least 1-2 years. If that sounds good to you, I see no reason to not pick it up.

Being more passive instead of forcing plays is something I started picking up on. So much to do, so little time. At least the games go by quick. It's not like you have to defend a snowballing carry for 50 minutes.

If that's the case then it's a good machine for the performance range I mentioned earlier. The "convenience tax" is not too high considering the price they are letting it go right now.

In all mobas play passive when at a disadvantage unless you recognize an safe-ish outplay oppurtunity and play aggressive when out an advantage, but recognizing it all takes a lot of experience + ur never gonna be able to figure out what 9 ppl are gonna do, u only have educated guesses. There are a lot of kind of easy things that can up your game tho, something like oh falstad used his q, that's all his dmg for a while, time to give him the work, like a lot of hots is just recognizing oppurtunities and confidently taking them

Kioshen

I've been playing MOBAs since WC3 DOTA 1 (then DOTA 2 and then LOL) :D. HOTS feels like a different beast though. I think one of the best tips really is that passive life, specifically making your number 1 goal to not die. Know your hero's limits / matchups and play within it.

I'll keep what Brian and you said tonight. Who knows maybe I'll have my first no death game tonight.

Forgot you were old like me proto.

From now on, I'll blame all my deaths on my aging reflexes xD.

brian!

Member
Yah i just wanna chime in on the not dying convo (def important tho hots gives you more leeway here than other mobas by far), and warn against turning that into "being afraid of dying", which will lose you the game. Never be scared, always be smart! Fear is the mind killer

Another skill that's really good is turning a disadvantage into an advantage, and there are a lot of popular heroes such as falstad and zera who can do that. I think flowcharting is really efficient in this game (like we're 15, they're 16? no reason to fight) due to the way the game is built, but at the same time there are often oppurtunities that arise from these situations. Like maybe ive been playing too much sf recently but reading ur opponent is pretty important i think. Since a lot of ppl participate in the flowchart (16 team wants to make something happen before 15 team hits 16, they assume 15 team wants to stall out for the level up, etc.), there are a lot of moments where you can flip it on them. A common example is the curse in cursed hallow where either the defending team thinks they are safe around buildings (attack team can press for picks), or the attacking team thinking they have a special team fight advantage w/ the curse active (they don't), like you can often identify what ur opponents mindset is and just punish them for it

Also kio if you can hit diamond in ow you can go far in hots np

brian!

Member
Yeah absolutely, the biggest loss from dying isnt the exp., it's the timeframe where you aren't contributing and the way it affects your team's ability to contribute

Alur

Member
For me, the biggest loss from dying is the look of shame I get my from my teammates for overextending.

Peer pressure, y'all.
