"How Forza overtook Need for Speed to become the world's biggest racing IP"

i'm just giving out the only official information available from the publisher.
anyway. according to neogaf a maximum of maybe 12 people even use the windows 10 store at all
so it's still at least 14m copies sold /s

and it's no PR fluff at best
every publisher is focusing on (active) playerbase today. it's the most important metric now. only people who play your game, could potentially spend money on your game.

Forza franchise made $1bn
Forza has 14m unique player on XB1 and PC as of Dec 2016 ( up form 7m as of Sep. 2015 and 10m as of March 2016)
Forza is the best selling racing franchise this gen (starting November 2012 with the WiiU) at retail in NA and AU + NZ

that is the info we have. if Yuyou like it or not

That's weird are you sure they are only counting NA AU and NZ!

That's 10 million players. Forza 5,6,H2,H3 have 12 million players and they were all single console exclusive aside from FH3 and they weren't given away for free

That's the same as the 14 million for Forza. Point is how can Forza really be number one when the crew alone has close to the same number of unique players. Forza is only number one in releases.

Good article with a crap title.

Who cares what it sold compared to other franchises, it's pumped out some of the best racers ever IMO.

Because The Crew is on 5 platforms and was given away for free on 2?

The Crew had over 3M on GWG alone, add in when it went free on PC maybe another 1-2M, and you're looking at 14M vs 5M sales maximum (well I guess this isn't necessary true as people might have downloaded it and not played but 3m+ isn't anything to scoff at... even less due to preowned etc). The Crew was also on 5 platforms (PC (Steam+Ubi), Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, XB1) vs for the most part 1 platform (360 for FH2 & Win10 store for FH3)

The crew did very well but it's easy to see why Forza's number is more impressive, and if you don't think so then idk what to tell you.

Also you kind of answered your own question, "how can forza be number one when the crew alone has close to the same number of players"... well, as you said.. close but not more than.

Not saying forza is #1 and tbh I don't really care if it is or isn't, but the crew is hardly a fair comparison with unique players even though forza still has more

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
Because it doesn't mention the 'right now' bit that you did. It is a blanket statement, which people correctly say is wrong. Those saying it is right are adding the missing qualifiers, as you did.

Not really a big deal, but it makes the title bait which people will take.

Maybe they presumed people wouldn't need spoon feeding.

Ironically Underground 2 was also the best selling NFS title by a considerable measure (it outsold all GTs individually, and probably all XB1 Forzas combined). But they've fallen a long way from those heights since...

The last GT game released in 2013 and it has sold more than any Forza game released since then. Forza pumps out a game every year to OK sales. It's not the biggest in any way, shape or form. It might be the best as of right now, but that is not the same thing. I say confidently that if GT Sport goes head to head with Forza 7 this Fall it will easily outsell it and probably by a lot. Like double, triple or higher.
