Mafia 3 |OT| "Family isn't who you're born with, it's who you die for"

About 2 hours or so in.
After the betrayal by Sal.

Where do I go to get my DLC weapons pack for preordering the game?

Also, I really like the game so far.

Is the story worth seeing the game until the end? I'm about 25% through and I'm really bored of it.

Are you bored with the story or gameplay? The story is worth it to me. If bored with gameplay it is a slog to get through

I believe they will become available when you get a perk from a certain character

gameplay. It's just the same things over and over. On top of that you spend most of the time driving which is boring. I'm still playing bc I like the story thus far.

I personally enjoyed the story enough to drag my way through the gameplay. But I tried to do the bare minimum gameplay to advance the story

Don't know where else to ask this and am frustrated with the wrong info seemingly being perpetuated on a bunch of different websites Mafia 3 guides.

Most of which claim the bayou fantom is an assignable district that should be given to Cassandra. That would make for 10 districts total but so far as I can see there's only 9 making for an even 3-3-3 split.

So, I was thinking of giving Frisco Fields to Cass as I like the idea of her being in charge of the Southern Union. However I just assigned the PCP racket to her crew and an NPC said "get me out of here, one of these dummies is going to blow us all up".

Certain rackets/districts seem to make the most sense for certain underbosses, but I'm a bit stumped as to what's the best final district for Cass and I want that gun stability.

Also, doing side missions didn't seem to increase their overall earn as I was expecting.

When I finished, I had 9. No clue.

There are 9 districts to hand out, the Bayou is not assignable. It has no rackets and no bosses.

The Bayou is NOT an assignable district to anyone. I have seen this mentioned in multiple Mafia III guides and they are completely wrong.

Yeah, the impression I'm getting is one website rushed to put out a full guide before the authors had even finished playing the game. They looked at the map and assumed every district would be assignable and gave their recommendations based on story logic, not realizing Bayou Fantom is not like the others.

Then all the other websites just plagiarized that guide for their recommendations. I've even read multiple message board threads where people claimed to have given the Bayou to Cassandra. I was feeling ok with my Frisco decision till that NPC was worried about a PCP lab explosion.

I've quit and uninstalled the game.

I was really near the end (I'd just allocated my last district), and the game crashed again... for the sixth time that day. (I'm playing on xbox).

It's bloody infuriating.

Can someone help me out here. Not sure if its the game or me or what, but I started Mafia III tonight, playing on a Sony 55" TV and every on screen icon is insanely small. Is this normal? Or did I incorrectly set something when first starting out.

Also, is it me, or is this game incredibly dark? I moved the shader down to where you could barely see the Mafia III logo and during the game, the night scenes are almost unplayable. I have no idea where anything is in the world (ie. walls, buildings, hiding spots, ect). I was driving at night and crashed into the side of a bridge because I couldnt even see it.

The game can not be this dark, can it??

Aside from those issues, its a pretty good game so far. I am very early in the game (just
took out the Haitians
), but its fun so far.

This game can be such a fucking chore. Whoever thought of the idea to make taking over districts part of the main story should never be let near game development ever again.

I wanted to dive into Watch Dogs 2 soon-ish after I've finished up Mafia but I think I'm going to need a loooong break from open world games.

I'm fairly sure it has, at the least it looks a lot better on the pro.

I find this game has a weird glitch where the game can't handle reflections. Try looking in a mirror or reflective surface at some point.

That's been there from day 1. On launch I walked up to a mirror and I was just staring at an empty room.

I have spent hours gathering up the collectibles. Is there any point of keep collecting fuses? I bet I have close to 200 now.

i just got the game and am just past the part where you
meet up with your partner in the command center in his motel room

the game looks great so far and runs pretty smooth for 30fps and the story is really interesting me.

I finished the game. You know, I didn't mind the repetitiveness. It bothered me at first but then I got used to it because the gameplay was good. But man, it was FILLED with glitches. SO many graphical glitches, it's not even funny.

But I still powered through all of them because I loved the story and I loved the shooting. It felt visceral. Headshots felt like headshots and brutal takedowns felt brutal.

And as I ended the game... as I reached the final mission...
I was expecting something grand. Like a mad mission with a lot of twists and turns. Maybe Donovan gets kidnapped or maybe he turns on us or maybe we have to stop some airplane take off or something. Instead, it was a super direct and super short final mission in the casino that ended so easily. There was 0 variety. It felt like taking down a normal racket boss. There was nothing defining or satisfying about taking out Giorgi. I'm still pissed because the final mission of the game didn't have any redeeming factor to tell me that, "YES! YOU'VE WORKED HARD TO GET HERE AND NOW ENJOY THE BEST MISSION IN THE GAME.Very disappointed in that final mission. Very.

Sorry for that. I was in my feelings.

It is a shame that they couldn't come up with variations on the gameplay to stop it feeling so repetitive. Failing that then a fast travel option would have been nice for every time you need to go nick a boat or truck in Bayou Fantom.

Having said that I am quite enjoying exploiting the weird A.I behaviour. Get involved in shootout, then stop shooting for a minute or so, and wait as one by one the guards walk right to where you are....and hit B. I don't know why but I haven't got sick of doing that.

And I must admit that I think they created a really nice world. Hopefully the DLC mixes things up a little.

Kind of disappointed this game doesn't support physx when mafia 2 on pc did it so damn well.

Many effects are actually better in the PC mafia 2 because of it kind of a downer for me

I thought I was the only one who felt that way. Mafia 2 on the PC had some amazing PHYSX implications. Mafia 3 did have the car glass shattering effect from 2, but that's about it.

I felt the same as well. Huge fan of Mafia II and I've played it many times so I was definitely missing PhysX

A look at the families throughout the whole Mafia series.

What's the performance like on PC now? I know it was capped at 30 at launch. i5 6600k 970 combo run it well?

Much better! It actually looks fantastic at 1080p on my 4K TV - smooth 60 FPS with everything else maxed out. I recently bumped my resolution up to 1440p (on my GTX 1070), but I found the difference in IQ is barely noticeable. Either way - still smooth 60 FPS.

I do highly recommend this graphics mod though:
http://www.pcinvasion.com/improve-mafia-3s-visuals-mod

I can't emphasize how much of an improvement this mod gives the visuals. It looks really, really nice. I've been playing with my wife - just trading off each objective. It's her first real modern open word / 3rd person game - so the repetitive gameplay isn't bothering us at all - it gives her more chances to practice and get a feel for the controls. The story and music (and I think the city is great) is enough to keep it from getting stale. Oddly enough, she went from only wanting to play 2D sidescroller / puzzle games & kart racers to googling stealth games after playing this game for a few weeks.

Anyway - if any of you were holding out on this game due to the 30 FPS lock, glitches & ugly visuals - the time is now to check this game out. I'm enjoying it far more than I expected.

Has this gotten a Pro patch yet?
I'm playing on a pro and I'm not sure but there seems to be very little ailiasing on things like the wires on pylons which normally look really shit on open world games. Overall the graphics and animation is quite polished there dosn't seem to be as much scenery destruction as m2 but I can't remember if I played that on the pc.

Has there been a patch that fixes most of the bugs and issues people / reviews seemed to complain about? I wanted to pick it up at launch but the bugs stopped me from doing so.

Quite a way into this and I'm really enjoying it. I've stopped collecting the fuses etc as I've realised you don't really need them after a while, I've got loads spare anyway.

Combat is great and visceral, I really like the driving as well and it doesn't take too long to get about due the map scale which is just right.

I've seen a few glitches like NPC's stuck in walls, and the rear view mirror is shocking, they should just remove it as it serves no purpose whatsoever.

Do the wiretaps make any difference in the game? I've been doing them as I pass them, but aside from hearing voices immediately, does it open up any new missions or anything? And the playboy magazines, are they anything useful?

I've been playing. I should have started a harder difficulty since it's really too easy but the story is so good I don't mind too much. Still wish I had chosen something more challenging though and I don't see any way to change it now.

5 hours into this and even though the storytelling is good i'm having some problem buying into the characters and the players motivations. Why do i want to make money? Whats the point in recruiting mobsters to work for you? Whats the deal with collecting magazines? Why should i care about any of it?

I don't feel any motivation to complete stuff other than unlocking new story missions. And Lincolns "I gotta take over the town"-goals that drives the story feels pretty cringeworthy too.

Wiretaps allow you to see remaining missions on the map, enemy locations and also give you the chance to recruit underlings you'd kill automatically otherwise like say during interrogations which increase racket value. They also reveal collectible locations. You should definitely be grabbing wiretaps ASAP.

did a Pro patch ever come out for this?

Yes. Definitely runs at a higher resolution with improvements visually and more framerate stability.

Bought this with the PSN sale.
The first thing that pops is how freaking amazing the soundtrack is.
It's a breath of fresh air since I'm coming from the generic electropunkwhatever of WD2.

The sound track is great which is good because you will be driving a TON is this game. That was probably my main gripe in this game. Yes it was a bit repetitive doing the same things over and overt again (although I never really got bored) but the amount of driving was insane. You'd spend 10 minutes driving to a location, watch a two minute cut scene then have to drive another 10 minutes to the mission location. The game really should have had fast travel.

PATCH NOTES: 12/20/2016

We've just launched a big patch for Mafia III. This is a pretty major update, folks, with a lot of new content coming in alongside the the technical fixes.

Here's what's included in the update:

Races and car customizations
A new set of outfits for the playable character
My2K Sign-Up and Sign-Up Incentives (new outfit and new weapon)
General bug fixes and playability improvements
Let's be honest: That's a lot of new exciting content. Read below for a larger breakdown of what this new content includes.

Races

12 races in total
6 circuit multi-lap
6 point to point races
Races are split among 2 race car classes
Sport
Exotic
Races can be entered by any vehicle in the game as long as it’s of the appropriate class. That means you can pick up a car off the street and race it, but it won’t have any performance or aesthetic upgrades on it. Only your fleet vehicles (the ones you receive from Burke's associate) can be upgraded with those customization items at this time.
Customizations can be applied to the player’s fleet vehicles at garages across the city

Trailer here.
