I was very lucky in that I was able to check a bucket list item this weekend which was to go to the Monaco GP. I got there Friday with my buds and we immediately went and walked the track which was really cool. Formula 1 and all of their sponsors put on a really nice party, it was expensive but I don't drink much nowadays so whatevs. It was awesome to walk the tunnel, the Fairmont hairpin, the starting grid etc. Literally a dream come true for me.

Saturday was great except for Lewis sucking. We went to our designated watch location and met with a bunch of people. FP3 and Q1-3 were epic. People cheering the whole time. Bonus was the F2 race right after. No idea who the drivers were but my friends were very excited about the V8 engines rather than the V6 Turbos lol. Met some really fun people and hit the casino later that night. Got to meet Terrell Suggs there.

The race sunday was amazing as well. They had a TV where I was but some of the nuances were hard to follow. I will rewatch when I get home of course. Fun time had by all. We were with a Mexican family that was there following Sergio Perez, it was a blast.

All in all I had a great time and it was supremely satisfying. I can't wait until my next GP, have the opportunity to drive up to Canada but I feel like by the time I wrap up this trip I will be totally unwilling to travel any more.

Here are some pics and a video if I can get it to work:

I think Alonso did an incredible job at Indy, but I can't help but feel a little upset that he's probably going to get more praise and attention from the sport and media for it than Nico Hulkenberg got for actually winning the Le Mans 24 Hours.

The difference is that Hulk is not a Formula 1 champion and will never be. He has no chance at the triple crown, unlike Alonso. It's not to diminish his incredible achievement at Le Mans, but it's what made Alonso's story more interesting for the media.

Also the fact that Hulkenberg didn't win Le Mans on his own. Not to take away from his incredible achievement, but F1 to LMP1 isn't as big a change as racing at 230mph on an oval in another prototype car.

And as already mentioned, Alonso is the greatest driver of his generation. Even though he's had uncompetitive cars for years now, he's still regarded as the best. It's like Messi deciding to randomly play in a Championship match.

The main triple crown is just winning Monaco in terms of F1, so if he ever gets a competitive drive, he could do 2 legs of it and then try Indy 500.

Welli out there visiting Monaco! You should definetly visit Montreal if you can, city is amazing during the GP week and the races there are always great.

Also, hope you told Suggs that he's a dickhole.

Sure, but Hulk winning le mans was a blip because he's not a champion and a low profile guy. Alonso doing the same would be fucking huge like with Indy.

I am going to the Canadian GP, but only have a general admission ticket. How likely is it to sneak onto the bleachers?

Best way to do this is have somebody bring two tickets down with them (they'd need to have two or more people with a ticket each up there) from a stand and give one to you to get on there.

The stands are never full except on race day in my experience (Aussie GP) so there's no issue doing this for practice and qualifying.

We stayed in Nice, France with an AirBnB I booked almost a full year out. We definitely did OK. Some of our new friends we met out there got to book Le Meridian in Monte-Carlo with points. I never saw that option or I would have done that for sure.

Also, hope you told Suggs that he's a dickhole.

Dude I am 6'4" 230, shaking his hand I felt like a fucking child.

As a result of this there was no overtaking until lap 33 when Perez passed Stroll for 15th after having pitted for a new nose and new tyres. In the course of the next 10 laps the main pit stops happened and thereafter the drivers were on rubber that had been used more or less depending on when the driver had stopped. We saw some moves after the Safety Car with Perez and Kvyat changing places on lap 66 after a bit of a bingle and then changing back again again on lap 67. On the same lap Ocon passed Stroll.

As I said earlier, there were some overtakes, but TV director chose not to show it, probably for the same reason we had to watch drivers on their warm up lap.

Looks like Ferrari have decided to spend some money on Giovinazzi:

Antonio Giovinazzi, the third driver for Scuderia Ferrari in the FIA Formula One World Championship, will gain additional Formula One experience with Haas F1 Team as he takes the wheel of the VF-17 for the first practice session (FP1) at seven grands prix in 2017.

Giovinazzi begins his slate of FP1 stints with Haas F1 Team July 14 at Silverstone Circuit in England as part of the British Grand Prix. He returns to the VF-17 in FP1 July 28 at the Hungaroring during the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sept. 1 at Autodromo Nazionale Monza during the Italian Grand Prix, Sept. 29 at Sepang International Circuit during the Malaysian Grand Prix, Oct. 27 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez during the Mexican Grand Prix, Nov. 10 at Autódromo Jose Carlos Pacé during the Brazilian Grand Prix and Nov. 24 at Yas Marina Circuit during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Haas F1 Team driver Kevin Magnussen will relinquish his seat for six FP1 sessions while teammate Romain Grosjean cedes his racecar to Giovinazzi during FP1 in Mexico.

KMag is on a multi-year contract at Haas, btw, so I'm not sure what the goal is here unless Ferrari plan on taking on Grosjean. I mean, it wouldn't be the worst pick. He'd be a reliable #2 driver with minimal drama, but I'd anticipate The Hulk or Perez (as they should have done a few years ago already).

It's FP1. There's not much to lose there. But this arrangement will surely fuel silly season for months to come

Hahaha!

Meanwhile, Hamilton was bitching, saying that a rookie qualifying in 5th says something about Indy. Gladly TK gave him a good answer: finished second in a two cars championship.
I like a little friendly ribbing.

I'm neither the biggest fan of Lewis nor indycar, but I would assume he was joking. He qualified 4th for his f1 debut, after all.

That comment was clearly tongue in cheek. Not bitching at all.

So not worth it
With every passing week I understand Hamilton's aversion to talking to the press more and more. The guy could be cuddling puppies with a whole group of make-a-wish kids and he'd still be shit on for not smiling in one of the pictures.

Not smiling enough, you mean.

"He clearly hates puppies. Why does he hate puppies so much? What an asshole!"

But to be fair, sometimes it's not easy to tell of someone is joking or not, if a transcript is all you got. It does show a certain bias, though.

Marko is again threatening that Red Bull will leave F1.

So long, cuntos. Can't wait.

LOL who does this guy think he is? Luca?

What's next, threat of a spin-off racing league?

Red Bull needs to come off it. It was an idle threat when Ferrari made these comments. It's a complete joke when these sugar syrup peddlers do.

Hasegawa at Barcalona said they are 90bhp down in quailyfing.

Barcalona intake upgrade and fuel was worth 16bhp.

Next big stage of update, lean burn combustion, slated for SPA according to Honda insider, will bring around 50bhp.

Ricardo have worked on and improved the PU's software.

Illien and AVL are working with Honda in Japan.

It's all shaping up to be a beautiful victorious end to the season, then we just need the accouncement of Button replacing Vandoorne next season for the icing on the cake.

Yep, going to be great, losing 2 teams with actual financing and potential just because we have to have speciality engines that only one constructor can properly build. Good stuff, can't wait either.

Fuck them. All they do is moan and funnily enough, when they were dominant I didn't hear a peep.

Someone else will come in and replace them eventually - big teams have come and gone in the past and they will come and go in the future, too.

Red Bull can concentrate on showing the world what racing should be like and on the side they can fund right-wing truthing. In addition to their "fun" event shite.
