Giant Bomb |OT31| I Think it Might Be for Show

hehehehe hahahaha

I'm sorry I just had the thought of Dan telling his kids about the SMS lore and where it stands in society

"You want to clean up after yourselves, or else bowser jr. is going to get you"
"Tell me again papa ryckert about why bowser jr. will get us"
"Gather around kids, let ryckert tell you of the time bowser jr...."

That is something that Dan would do.

Which is sad considering he was a film major in college and didn't learn a single thing it seems.

I think that comes down to taste/preference.

Him not knowing the difference between a wide-angle lens and telephoto lens is infuriating. It's genuinely the most basic of things in media courses, tutors will expect you to know the difference within the first couple of months.

Who is Casey Malone? He's always all over GB people's Twitter stuff

Probably a friend to people in those circles? If someone comes up in feeds regularly maybe it's just because they're buds? It's like when people called out Fobwashed here.

I didn't learn anything from my major either so I can't hate, but my excuse is my major was business and marketing. I did take one video production class and probably learned more about it then Dan though.

LPT: If you're going to get a film degree and not get anything out of it, do it at a school that's affordable so you at least won't be in debt for the rest of your life. (Kill meeee.)

Edit re: Dan, Even if he coasted through classes, it sounds like he did a lot of production stuff outside of class which frankly is far more valuable than classroom experience (in that industry at least).

Guys why do we even have the pretense that he learnt anything from his major.

From my super personal perspective I worked supporting people with physical and learning disabilities for 10 years in universities/colleges and I think Dan's great, but his willingness to talk about how little he had to do to get a degree like it was nothing irks me. It's a shitty thing he managed to take advantage of and he doesn't need to bring it up as much as he does.

Okay, that makes me seem more angry at Dan than I am. I've just seem people go through so much adversity to get their degrees that it's an annoyance when Dan talks about how easy it was for him.

Yeah, probably. I ask because he's on this game industry PUBG stream along w/ Vinny Abby and Matt Bodega. I thought he was an old GB intern I was not aware of.

Casey malone used to be from harmonix, and those guys were always way too buddy buddy for comfort really.

One of them even works for giantbomb now!

I don't think he really talks about it though outside of that last email asking him about it and he acknowledges why people might find his stories irksome.

I'm seriously not trying to demonise him. He's clearly in a position right now where he's great at what he does. I was just explaining why I might be sensitive to it occasionally.

Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

"Allegedly"

Opening admitting to sexually assaulting someone(then banning anyone who called him out for it)

Posting revenge porn with their real full names then another admin(a now jailed pedophile) printed the photos and jacked off over them and sent it to the boyfriend.

You're right, how can we even know if he's guilty or not? HMMMM

MGS2 was my first Metal Gear, which made for an interesting experience. Glad I went into it without any expectations based on the first. I wound up being disappointed that the series never again went quite as crazy as it does in 2.

Trying to pester my sister into playing Steins;Gate (that frigging awesome ending is still bouncing around in my mind). I have a decent number of friends who play games, but VNs are unique in that I'll practically never have any irl people to discuss them with lol. The curse of being into weird Japanese shit.

Edit: GB Squad spotted

I've realised that I actually don't really like MGS as a series that much.

I just really like MGS2.

This is what any sane person thinks. Just the experience of fighting alongside the legendary hero Snake at the end of the game will always be one of my favourite gaming moments. It was a way more interesting idea for a sequel than just playing the same guy again.

I think that Dan has earned the position that he's in right now. At the same time from what he's said he should have never earned a degree. (Also I really like Dan even though I don't know if this comes through in my posts!)

I didn't even really have any concept of what MGS was when I played it really. Dropped into 2 cold and that concept still fucking rules.

Also Alex still think nier is a masterpiece woop woop.

I'm also disappointed that vinny didn't mention transformers.

So when did you star playing games Whippy?

I really hope Alex manages to get Neir and Night in the Woods in the top 10.

On another note. What are people's hopes for Mario and the Rabbits?

MGS1 is my fav MGS. I appreciate MGS2's commentary but I neither like the gameplay nor much of the story so it's just my least favorite MGS.

But I don't like Metal Gear Solid in general. Something about the tone and the writing just doesn't work for me. It's too long winded most of the time so the story's are usually a hard miss for me and the gameplay from 2 to 4 is hit or miss. I like 1 the most because it's the "simplest" and really fun to play because of it.

I still think the most baffling/amazing part of Dan's college experience is the part where he somehow made his college an incredible amount of money.

As far as console games go? I spent my childhood playing gameboy, arcade and PC. Only got into console gaming mid PS2.

Pokemon, Civ 3 and King of fighters were my formative games.

Rad!

Were any of those formative outside of a fun context? Or was there a game that you played that had a deeper meaning?

Wait. Did he?

I'd need to find where I put my copy of his book (I never unpacked it... or a lot of things... after I moved into this apartment) to remember the full details but his college job was calling alumni for donations, and he somehow figured out how to be astoundingly good at it while still slacking off.

EDIT: I've found every book I was pretty sure I packed besides his. Huh.

F&40s Battle Royale is pretty good, despite the early threat of Dan derailing the whole thing with his "questions". Abby was great, as usual. It's nice having a fan of the manga there to provide context when needed.

It's been like 10 years since I've seen the movie though and I gotta say, it's got nothing on the manga. It'd work better as a modern tv series. Still fun with the GBE crew though.

I haven't listened to the F&40s yet, but I thought Abby read the book.

The manga is super trashy. Do you mean the original novel?

Not sure, iirc she said she read Battle Royale, could be the book or manga, I dunno. I own both the book and the manga omnibus collection. The manga takes some liberties with the original work but it has great artwork.
