Hard to find/get collectibles/secret in games

The idea is to share collectibles/secrets in games that were hard to find/get.

Probably doesn't count because it's a random drop, but it's the only thing I could think of. 1/128 chance to have it drop from an enemy you only fight once is pretty damn hard to get, I'd say.

Getting the Jewel Sword and the Beryl Circlet from a secret room in SotN.

The method to unlock the room is total nonsense and there's no way that you can figure it out without looking up an FAQ.
You need to go back to one of the earlier rooms in the game with a tunnel that you make by breaking both ends of a hunk of rock in the middle. The you enter the tunnel from the right as a bat and mid-way transform into a wolf to leave. Then you go down and the wall to the left has opened up to reveal the secret room.

There's no sound effect until you go down to see the wall open, so you don't know that you've done it until you go to check for it, meaning that if you don't know beforehand but still manage to accidentally do the bat-to-wolf thing, you can easily just leave without knowing that you've done anything.

I found a weird secret in Dragon Age Inquisition the other day in the forest area. Jumped up some weird rocks and dropped into a tiny little area to find about a dozen bloody bear heads all impaled onto a rock wall. Creepy as shit.

Adamant Armor in the North American SNES version of Final Fantasy IV. There is a tiny room in one dungeon where you have a 1/64 chance of fighting enemies that have a (5/98)*(1/64) chance of dropping the item you need to get the armor. On average it takes over 10000 battles to get it.

The original version of the game had an item that let you always fight the hardest monsters in the area, but they removed it in the NA version to make the game simpler.

Shadow of the Colossus Secret Garden. A mysterious myth for a good while (but soon confirmed), however it still took a lot of work to get there for yourself and find that forbidden fruit...

Illusiory Ring of the Exalted, and Illusiory Ring of Conquerer in Dark Souls 2. One you get for beating w/o using a single bonfire. One you get for beating w/o dying. Each one makes your left or right hand weapon invisible lol.

Getting the Star Egg in Mario RPG.

First you head down a random pipe and fight a chain chomp. Once you beat the chain chomp you then need to go to the lower left corner of the room and jump three times to make a secret platform appear. Using this platform you can get to the secret casino.. but they won;t let you in since you don't have a member's card. In order to get the member's card you need to go back to Knife Guy and win his guessing game 12 times in a row. Now that you can get into the casino you have to play the secret game in there (keep talking to the owner) and win it 100 times. It is another guessing game so have fun.

By doing all of that you get the Star Egg which isn't even worth it.

Oh yeah, finding Garnet's real name in FFIX. That was stupidly obscure and it took me looking at an issue of PSM to figure out.

Her real name is
Sarah

Oracle of Ages - Bombers Ring. Complete the Goron Dancing with a perfect score on Platinum difficulty and even then it is not 100% to get the ring.

For me, it was that Nintendo Coin in DK64. Because I fucking SUCKED at playing the retro Donkey Kong with one life. Especially the third level. It was the only collectible in the entire game I didn't get. Never beat the game.

Omg finding the orbs in Crackdown stole a little bit of my soul- I gave up when I realized I was missing like 10 and I had no idea where they could be hidden.

Pretty much every room and thing in Fez.

Lmao.

I'm surprised I managed to get down to 4 or 5 puzzles left to solve in the game. There was no way I would've been able to decipher the alphabet and number system as well as the stupid clock tower without cheating.

You can get tens of thousands of points from this, but it requires some pretty precise platforming so more often than not you end up misjudging the platforms and dying, losing hundreds of thousands of points in POWs. There's also a second genie in that same spot that most people miss.

Love that one. Lots of people don't know there's another genie.

Metal Slug 2 at full speed is so good.

That one is a bitch, but you can respawn him by leaving then re-entering the room, IIRC. It's the fact that the dungeon is locked forever after you clear it which makes it a problem. Also, the fact that the enemy is so strong you might over-level by the time you actually get the drop.

EDIT: Actually, I'm thinking of the King's Sword. Ignore this!

I actually found this out by writing to Nintendo back then. I had asked them where the casino was, and they wrote back to me telling me exactly what to do.

You have to chain 800 dashes in a row.

Very easy to do if you switch to kb/m controls.

The one Koin I could never actually get in DKC3 was the one in the stage with the barrels coming down the waterfall. I never connected the dots for how to get it, for some reason. I remember getting the one in the OP no problem.
