The Last Night: IGN Article [Quack Quack Slurp Slurp]

Check out how this cyberpunk Xbox One game made it to Microsoft's stage and won us all over.

This is a really cool video showing the process a tiny dev team go through trying to make a trailer for E3. They nailed it, the game is absolutely gorgeous. Really looking forward to seeing more.

Edit, I wasn't fully aware of the background to the game or the dev when the video popped up in my Twitter feed.

Every time I get reminded of this game, it sucks. As a huge fan of modern pixel art and cyberpunk and cinematic platformer, this was clicking every box for me. Even posted about its GIFs and dev updates a ton on GAF. It was probably my most anticipated indie game after Rain World

So of course it turns out to be about an alt-right’s nightmare of a “dystopia” built upon and based arond the dev’s fucked-up beliefs. A very story-driven, choice-heavy adventure based on all that, to the point that the creator wanted to put a Gamergate mascot in the game as a character.

Fuck that. Such a disappointing turn-of-events. You can’t separate creator from creation when the creator’s beliefs form the backbone and story of that creation.

And a VICE article/interview with the dev from this years E3.

Is the gamergater-ness still a part of it?

EDIT:

I thought the guy owned up to some of the shitty things he said? He sounded pretty earnest talking about it last I saw. He's been working on this game for a long time and I don't think its still the "if femenism won" thing

If I remember right the guy said he regretted his stance on GamerGate and didn't intend the game to explicitly reference it. For what that is worth, which is...yeah.

Yeah

Only halfway through the video but I had to say two things:

1. This game looks unbelievably good.

2. This video is actually really well produced. Kudos, IGN

He "tried" to walk some stuff back but it was pretty hollow, and afterwards was either retweeting or favoriting tweets of people saying "ignore the haters!!!" And shit like that. Might have been more later but I don't think so.

I thought he doubled down? And then a dev who is also a gaffer tried to sweep some things under the rug?

...then proceeded to Like all the very supportive Tweets from the Gamer Gate crowd.

Man, the replies on this thread show they have been hard at work to hide how the author is a piece of shit.

That's discouraging.

Yikes, can't believe this is still getting coverage. Such a waste of resources and a good aerstyle on a game I honestly hope bombs.

maybe you can point me to where he explicitly says he regrets his stance on gamergate and did not intend the game to reference his lame views? maybe you're talking about the other guy who worked on the game?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=240375952&postcount=2971

who said the tweets were from "way back when" and when pointed to tweets less than a month ago said "look the tweets don't matter"

It's very pretty but I'm not supporting the developer. His apology felt super duper hollow, saying "I shouldn't have mentioned gamergate" instead of "what I said was wrong." That, on top of liking those gater tweets, really gives me the impression that he's not actually sorry.

I have enough games to play as it is, and I'd rather not support a hateful garbageman if I can avoid it.

People keep bringing up GG with this game, but vice did a story on it with Tim Soret a while back and it seems he's steered a lot away from GG years ago,

https://waypoint.vice.com/en_us/art...unk-an-interview-with-the-last-night-designer

The game isn't built upon GG or anything like that, at least from what it seems like from reading that.

Hopefully that's true and we'll know when the game is released.
The basic premise of the game is a dystopia caused by feminist healthcare.
