Advance Wars DS gets sequel! (Plus, Mario Party DS)

so basically Nintendo announced Mario Kart Wii, AWDS2, and Mario Party DS this year. AND OF COURSE A JIZZILLION NONGAMES.

Sorry, but that line up, in terms of new *GAMES*, sucks. Last year Nintendo had a lot to offer... 2005 was ok. 2004 is Nintendo's last best.

I'm really, really not liking their new approach.

Jesus ****, Nintendo. Announce these at your ****ing conferences.

I really think Nintendo made a conscious decision to ONLY appeal to the mainstream media. They want CNN and everyone to ONLY talk about Wii Fit- announcing all this great stuff only gets in the way.

Awesome.
They did this last year as well but many fanboys don't seem to remember, all they did was show the Galaxy footage at the conference and played Wii Tennis.

I seriously doubt with all my heart that we'll see anything beyond this. This is all Nintendo has to offer this year. 3 new "real" games. That's it.

Gamers lose. Nongamers win.

It sucks to own a Nintendo system. :(

Then after the show, SPM, DKBB (now Jet something), FE trailer, etc etc. And the following day they showed the Brawl trailer.

Yeah sure does...WTH? AS a gamer you are getting smash metroid and galaxy within 3 months. And then if you own a 360 you get slammed with Halo assasins creed and GTA, mass effect. These are just a few games. This fall is flooded with absolutely great gaming and people are complaining. You all must s*** money or something.

...what?

Advance Wars DS came after the first two GBA ones, why would they port those?

Thank god. I've been playing Advance Wars DS since it came out, and it's starting to get repetetive.

I hope Mario Party DS is fun and fleshed-out, not just a half-baked mini-game collection with Mario in it.

Online play would be great, if done right. I wonder how they'll take into account the fact that AW battles are a little more epic than, for example, a Mario Kart race. Maybe a "suspend" feature of some sort? How would you guys like to see it done?

In any case, online Advance Wars means I'm never leaving my house again. If you'll excuse me, I have to go quit my job.

I should have mentioned that Nintendo gamers lose.

own a 360 or PS3, cool, you get to live on with gaming.

But the classic Nintendo that used to focus on fun and *real* innovative games? That's long gone.

Oh. I just posted a mostly negative post about Nintendo's conference, but I think I have to take it back. Poor Wii, though. Even in the year when it gets Smash, it can't pull off a better lineup than the DS. Pokemon plus Advance Wars together trash everything Wii has to offer.

That's a strange use of the word epic, but yeah, this is exactly why I don't care much about AW being online or not. One battle even in a medium-sized map could take like three hours of holding up hoping neither side gets a connection error or whatever... I mean, okay, sure, I've had two-hour Pokemon matches as well, but those are relative rarities and only happen when there are two evenly matched players and both are playing defensively. In AW anyone who's reasonably competent can still tend to hang on for several (in-game) days at the tail end of a losing battle.

Because Mario galaxy looks like ass as well as smash and Prime. These are the nintendo classics...why would they show you a bunch of games that you know are coming.

Agreed; I suppose this could be addressed with map design, but it seems more likely that there would have to be an altered gameplay mode that resulted in/forced quicker matches.

Hmm... Good idea. :D

To that end, that option where you win once you capture a certain number of cities might be viable. It'd favor Sami, though (not that I mind since she's my favorite), as well as Kanbei's ludicrous defenses, and maybe Lash and Kindle also because of their attack bonuses. Maybe they could have some sort of mode where a certain number of units destroyed means you lose, which would also discourage meat-shielding. That would again favor Kanbei, and almost definitely Grit, while nerfing Colin, but nothing's perfect...

:lol :lol Nintendo's new code is to reveal everything AFTER its conference. This week is clearly not over.
2003 was much the same way. They had a lot of cool content like Giftpia, Mario & Luigi, and Fire Emblem, but of course that year is most remembered for Pac-Man Vs.

All the other suggestions are good but kind of miss the fact that AW is turn based - why not play it like the old play-by-mail strategy games where I connect, download all my opponents turns for the 10 or so battles I'm currently in and then I do my turns and send the data back.

If you have sensible limits (like 1 day for quick & 1 week for slow) after which the game decides a winner by tie break i can't see a problem with this.

Along side this you could have a fast play online mode with smaller maps and 2 minute turn limit counter (no animations) so that matches were about 30 mins a piece.

There's only one nongame from Nintendo. They didn't even show Animal Crossing (bringing it to a whopping 2) for the Wii.

Now that I think about it, they only showed off 3 new pieces of software for it, didn't they? Wii Fit, MK Wii, and the eye training thing.

I certainly wouldn't mind that being an option for play (it does sounds pretty cool), but I don't think I'd want it to be the only mode available. There's definitely something to be said for logging on and getting to play a complete match in one go.

Couldn't agree more, I more meant that this turn based mode would be there in the background so you could play much more in depth games over a longer time period. Hopefully with your own maps too :)

But Eye Training and Wii Fit are not absolutely unannounced, Mario Kart wasn't announced formerly.

Yeah, this sounds awesome. Here's hoping they actually add online play, what with all our daydreaming :lol.

And not for nothing, but in the "play-by-mail" scenario, what stops Nintendo from providing a web interface for you to login and check out your current maps, or even submit a move? I'm stumbling dangerously into baseless speculation right now, but damned if I wouldn't have one browser tab for GAF and another for AW.

Sweet! :D Is maxconsoles banned yet for the Golden Sun incident? I want their asses burned!

I'm fine with my DS thanks to 3rd parties, but yeah first party support is lacking. It's slowly picking up with Zelda, ASH, Tingle, and Advance Wars 2 but it's still lacking.

Everything else can just go and die. This is the game that I need, and will have. Oh yes. I will have it. Over 300hours on Advanced wars DS, and I need a new fix. Looks like it's coming this year as well.

Well, no need for any home consoles! I'm getting ADVANCED WARS 2. BEST GAME EVER INVENTED EDITION.

Damn. I hope the visuals get a major overhaul. It was painfully obvious that AWDS carried over too many GBA assests.

It's 2D(probably) and on a screen that only allows so much detail. The most you can expect is a change in art direction and more animation as far as graphics. I ended up putting in 300+ hours on AWDS so this is a no brainer for me.
