XNA Community Program

* Games get put in escrow before they are available on XBLA
* Games will be reviewed by peers in the Community Program
* Games are all unrated. No ESRB intervention
* There may be a possible file size increase in the future to accommodate game developers.
* No word or news on possible money making opportunities for community developers
* Games probably won’t be restricted by region. In other words, you’ll probably be able to play games from Japan and Europe. MS is still looking into this.
* Game creators will retain all rights to their games.
* There will be no certification for XNA community developed games.
* Stats for XNA downloads may be implemented in the future
* No achievements for XNA community games
* Friends lists probably won’t work on XNA community games. They are still working on it.
* Dream, Build, Play will continue
* Microsoft believes it is VERY important to promote independent content
* Microsoft believes that the XNA Community program is a great way to farm content

Xbox Live Downtime Over The Holidays

* Xbox Live outage due to overwhelming holiday response
* 1,000,000 concurrent users on before Super Bowl playing Madden
* 4,000,000 new Live Gold subscribers in 6 months

Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Player Possibilities

* Microsoft doesn’t care about Blu-Ray at this time
* Xbox 360 is a game machine not a movie player
* If you must watch movies on it, there’s Video Marketplace
* 3% attach rate for HD-DVD add-on

GTAIV DLC

* When MS says exclusive, they mean that no other system can have DLC content for GTAIV

* It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA3 Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV
* No price has been discussed yet. It’s up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it
* If successful, DLC may be the new way to deliver GTA expansions
l

Red Ring Of Death Still An Issue?

* Failure rate has officially dropped
* Microsoft is working on the DRM issue with downloaded content
* DRM issue only affects those who don’t have access to Live
* In the interim, Microsoft will refund ALL your MS Points to re-download your content

More at the link.

Kill wario if old.

Ok, I think I may stick with my 360 GTA4 preorder if that info is indeed the case.

That's not the BD I wanted to hear about.

:(

You need Wipeout HD anyway! :D

So the XNA games will be able to be downloaded by people with a regular Xbox Live account (gold or silver, and not in the XNA creators club or whatever it's called)?

What. do they mean the ones 360 get or that the ps3 can't have any dlc at all? :lol

They probably mean that GTA IV versions of "Half Life ep. 1 & 2" are exclusive to the 360.

Awesome stuff. Though friends lists are kinda important if it is possible, and I assume any revenue streams, if any will be discussed on a game by game basis and not be made public. Besides getting a game up on XNA is awesome enough on your resume- I wouldn't be turned off just because I can sell it on PC.

BD is coming to 720 not 360. It's only 3 years away anyways. Perfect for when mass market adoption comes to BD.

Like oxygen. But, I'm hip deep in Lost Odyssey right now and some Blue Dragon news would have been sweetness.

Oh, and WHOA at that GTA4 news. New Title GET.

I know, I just didn't think it would all fit. Plus, I didn't want any war BS in here.

Can't we stop using BD in a 360 thread? Isn't it BRD anyway? Blue Dragon is a great franchise it will be coming to 720 AND 1080 and whatever ELSE MS makes or a ZUNE or whatever!!

I'm sure they're referring to the DLC 360 gets.

Huh?

..no other system can have DLC content...

I would interpret this to mean that no other console can have any downloadable content for GTAIV other than 360. Am I missing a </sarcasm>? Or does everyone think MS is full of sh*t again based on the recent "GTAIV online only on 360" comment that was made a month or so ago that was later proven incorrect?

I'm sorry to tell you my friend, but as people are killed off on Lost, so are games that MS dumped tons of money on and sold relatively weak.

Oh shit, so does that mean that I could request my points back, and then just NOT re-buy copies of games I don't play anymore?

First of all, he didn't say GTAIV was ONLY online on 360. He was mentioning a couple of things. Kinda like when they said you can ONLY get Madden and... exclusive on 360, they weren't saying Madden was exclusive, just that you could only get BOTH on 360. Similar, wording was a little different, but that was all taken the wrong way.

As far as this quote goes, take it as a mistake by the writer of the article.

EDITED: because my grade school grammar teacher smacked the shit out of me.

I would hope that most people don't think that, and instead realize it was a matter of verbal communication not translating well to text that caused a misunderstanding.

I did that before, got about $200 extra out of it. I heard they stopped doing it though.

Blu-Ray on the 360 was always a super long shot to begin with....I never believed that BD add-on for the 360 was going to happen...and with a 3% attach rate on the HD-DVD player, MS is pretty much correct in saying that the 360 is for GAMES and it has added capability for MOVIES...

I can't help but say that my PS3 has been the exact opposite to date....it is for MOVIES and it has the added capability of playing GAMES (mostly PS2-ear games to this date, although I have to admit that PS3 games have been getting a lot better in the last 6 months and look pretty good moving forward too). Since I have the PS3 already for my BD viewing (and for its utility in playing back Divx files without the annoyingly long.avi-to-mpeg conversions for playing on most DVD players (or the 360)...that makes me a pretty happy consumer and even if MS released a BD-add-on, there is NO WAY it would be allowed to come out for a competitive price.

The HD-DVD add-on started at $199, dropped to $179, then $119, now the firesales have them available as low as $50 (which if you use the 5-free HD-DVD coupons and sell them on E-Bay means they are pretty much giving it away now). To sell any volume of BD-add-ons, MS would probably need to introduce it at $149...I doubt very much that SOny and the BD group want to hand over the tech license to MS cheaply enough to allow that.

You miss an update? 360 can stream divx and Xvid.

I think BRD would be fine and totally unconfusing. Of course let's hope that this thread means BRD will never be mentioned in connection with the 360 again!

?? DRM in general. What is your problem with video marketplace?
Umm the DRM for xblive arcade and Xbl marketplace are different, face is talking about watching a lowbitrate movie for 24 hours, and not being able to watch it on something else, thats the difference between blueray and the marketplace DRM.

Well the $50Million has to give them something. You can arguably fund 3-5 blockbuster games with that amount of money.

the 50 million was a loan as a gesture. MS didn't pay 50 million for a bunch of DLC i hope.

I think MSG is being very future oriented with this service, and I like it a lot. A couple concerns I had during the keynote:

- $$ for games. Who gets it, who determines the pricing structure? How will the person downloading the game be able to ensure that they are not getting ripped off? (demos are great, but I think there's less accountability regarding the entire game's content with a service like this). I can tell you right now that all of the XNA games I played at GDC were fun, but I can get that same kind of game on Newgrounds for free. Sure, there are some benefits on the 360 platform, but nothing I'd pay $$ for.

- Bug testing. How the fuck will this happen? What if the game crashes your 360 constantly, but the bug doesn't appear until much later in the game or is hard to reproduce? There's no review process for this, apparently. At least, none that was covered in the conference.

- No ESRB => Disaster waiting to happen. Peer review for games is great... but it's not foolproof. There's tons of pornography and other content on Newgrounds right now. Will peer review be able to catch all the content of games? I seriously doubt it. The accountability is a big, big problem.

Basically what I took away from the conference was that XNA is really a pioneering move by Microsoft, but detail-wise it's still a bit limited as to how they'll find the solutions for the above problems. It looks like a big Newgrounds for games, which is awesome, but also not so awesome. Newgrounds is littered with bazillions of games that are crap. So hopefully the community will grow and mature (They'll probably hire full time MS people to work on it) so that accountability is present.

:lol, I'm sure all of the people providing content to the video marketplace would agree that the 360 is NOT a movie player. Sure, all this expensive infrastructure exclusive to the 360 is just a crock! Not important! :lol

Wat? Read who I was quoting about GTAIV using DLC instead of doing a vice city/san andreas type thing. Then, read faceless master's post quoting me responding to that. Finally, you will see it has nothing to do with what you're talking about.

It would actually not suprise me one bit if many of those "peers" are MS employees, and that the title "peer review" is more out of image than functionality.

And personally, I'm all for it. I'd rather not have some user made game that erases all my gamesaves or something.
