Just saw an add yesterday on a french TV about Mario Kart Wii with a hilarious "Now back in store" at the end of the ad :lol
Awesome!

I didn't think SSBB would be this popular in the UK. The GC SSBM has only a silver award (above 100k but below 200k I think) but SSBB has the third biggest Wii opening. Quite a jump in popularity me thinks. Then again they showed quite a few TV ads here in Germany - should be the same in the UK I guess. That always helps with the sales.

Nintendo have really been on the ball with their marketing this generation, its widespread, has a clear message and is focused. Its good to see them not rest on there laurels and instead spend some of the mountains of money they're making on ensuring they have continued success.

I've literally just bought Smash Bros... so my sale is not reflected here :p

I hope my Wii can read the disc. I know a couple of people who have had trouble

They both smoke around their consoles, we were talking the other night and I mentioned the Wii manual doesn't say anything (IIRC) about smoking around the console, but the PS3 manual does.

Having said that, the lenses must be crap -- it shouldnt happen at all.

Yeah, it is impressive to see Smash Bros. doing so well, I'd guess somewhere between 200-250K, which, like you said, is more than the last game managed in total. Advertising has once again been excellent here in the UK.

Take 2 must be happy they're selling a lot of crap on all consoles, just look at GTA4...

...remember, big budget crap is still crap ;)

I was actually pointing out how fucking stupid it is to use subjective opinion of games in sales threads.

My opinion of the quality of GTA4 has no more relevance than someone's opinion of Top Spin 3, when it comes to sales. This is really obvious.

But he is right, they got away with selling lots of mediocre games...do you not see Carnival Games up there.

Nice edit there

No. He isn't right.

There are loads of other threads where people can bitch about how one game is factually shit, while other games are factually amazing, sales threads are much more productive if this kind of bollocks stays out.

Yes, yes, we should also remove the name and publisher info from the list. That way our discussion can be much more purely focused on what really matters.

Here in Ireland Nintendo have been hammering out the Smash Bros ads,
I rarely watch TV, but the few times I did over the weekend I saw them.

I bought it on NTSC, so didn't bother with it for my PAL machine, and have had no problems but a few people I know have had problems with the PAL version.

Don't worry, it is what you said earlier, the lenses must be shite for dual layer. The reliability of Nintendo's HW is usually excellent, but this time they've settled for poor drives when it comes to dual layer stuff, unfortunately. If I wasn't so particular about keeping dust away from Wii, because of the reported problems, I could've very easily had issues.

If you haven't modded your machine try contacting Nintendo UK, because they have said they will sort it out, free. And try and get some compensation, like some free Wii Points, for the inconvenience.

http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2008/super_smash_bros_brawl_game_disc_information_8780.html
If you have recently purchased Super Smash Bros. Brawl and are experiencing technical problems playing the game on your Wii, please read the following information to learn how this issue can be resolved.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilises a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialised cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.

If you are experiencing disc read errors, please contact consumer Support or go directly to our Fast Track repair service and enter your information. There is no cost for the repair or shipping of your Wii to get the disc drive lens cleaned. (Please note: Returning the disc to the retail store will not solve the problem. We encourage users who are experiencing issues with playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl to utilise Nintendo’s repair service.)

Due to the nature of this particular issue, Wii owners should not lose any of their stored data, such as Virtual Console games and WiiWare software. In some rare cases you may have to re-download this software from the Wii Shop Channel, but there is no cost to doing so.

My records have Wii Fit at 238,000 and Mario Kart Wii at 180,000 so it's less than both of those.

If stocks stay high then it could out pace MK in the next few weeks as stock dropped off for that in week 3 I think.

Amazing that the two fastest selling Wii games on launch are still on top 10 chart showing that they were not single audience games and have mass appeal. If stock is there they sell - hopefully the next few weeks will have enough to catch up with the demand (links crossbow training says they won't though...)

I trust your numbers, I must be wrong.

I remembered MKWii was the 8th biggest launch week in the UK, but thought this was over 200K for some reason.

Smash Bros. has never been as huge in Europe as it is in the US, so these sales are pretty impressive.

I can see it staying on the charts for some time to come, though not to the degree of the more casual-friendly Mario Kart.

IGN.au have been kind enough to post the latest Australian/New Zealand hardware figures.

Taking a look at the latest console hardware figures, Wii is the current market leader with 456,000 units sold in Australia and New Zealand. Xbox 360 is slightly behind with 410,000 units and PS3 trails significantly at 285,000 units.

Looks like Alone in the Dark and Bourne Conspiracy are gonna bomb. Shame as theyre not bad games.

Bourne is just uninspired crap.

The combat is awesome, but then the shooting is lame, they ripped out almost all of the story making it as barebones as possible, which sucks as it's not like they had to tell a crazy amount of story, still they decided to cut it out, and the chase sequence, dude, whoa, just straight garbage, so badly done, and the graphics were so bad.

It had potential.

Thx. So I guess that's 450k Wii in Aus and 6k in NZ :D . I thought PS3 picked up the pace significantly? Maybe I'm just confusing things.

So, in fact, your top 15 taken at this link is right:

http://www.forumeye.it/invision/index.php?showtopic=441793&st=30&p=8434900&#entry8434900

but the poster don't put together the two sku of MGS4, Alone in the dark, and more brain training which explain the differencies between your top and this one.

On forumeye website you can have the right top, if the good poster begin the thread as it was the case for the week 24 (if it's not this poster who begin the thread, you can't obtain the right top with this website).

In fact, you have taken the top for Italy in the week 23 at this link:

http://www.forumeye.it/invision/index.php?showtopic=439015&st=40

But as for the week 25, this top don't put the two sku of wii play and more brain training together.

If you wanted to post the top with the two sku of these two games together, you must take the italian top at this link:

http://www.forumeye.it/invision/index.php?showtopic=439015

because here you have the italian top posted by the poster who begin the thread which is the right top.

So for week 23 in Italy, you have posted that:

01 Race Driver: GRID 360 100
02 GTA IV PS3 42,16
03 Emergency Mayhem WII 35,56
04 Cooking Mama 2 DS 23,57
05 Training Di Matematica DS 22,94
06 GTA IV 360 22,03
07 Wii Play WII 21,34
08 Brain Training DS 19,46
09 UEFA Euro 2008 PS2 14,70
10 Mario Kart WII 14,34
11 Mario & Sonic Ai Giochi Olimpici DS 14,08
12 More Brain Training DS 14,05
13 Pratice English DS 12,80
14 Haze PS3 11,69
15 Nintengogs Labrador DS 11,43

But in fact, you had to post that:

01 Race Driver: GRID (360) [100%]
02 GTA IV (PS3) [42,16%]
03 Emergency Mayhem (WII) [35,56%]
04 Cooking Mama 2 (DS) [23,57%]
05 Wii Play (WII) [23,13%]
06 Training Di Matematica (DS) [22,94%]
07 GTA IV (360) [22,03%]
08 Brain Training (DS) [19,46%]
09 More Brain Training (DS) [15,45%]
10 UEFA Euro 2008 (PS2) [14,70%]
11 Mario Kart (WII) [14,34%]
12 Mario & Sonic Ai Giochi Olimpici (DS) [14,08%]
13 Pratice English (DS) [12,80%]
14 Haze (PS3) [11,69%]
15 Nintengogs Labrador (DS) [11,43%]

If it's not the good poster who begin the thread on forumeye, the only mean you have to obtain the right top is the source of captain smooker, which since two weeks give the top 20 in Italy.

Germany:

01. (new) Super Smash Bros Brawl, Wii
02. (2) Mario Kart Wii, Wii
03. (new) Battlefield Bad Company, PS3
04. (1) Metal Gear Solid 4, PS3
05. (3) Crisis Core, PSP
06. (6) WiiFit, Wii
07. (4) Brain Training, DS
08. (8) Mario Kart DS, DS
09. (new) Battlefield Bad Company, 360
10. (9) Mario Party 8, Wii

Didn't expect MGS to go down that fast tbh. New releases beating it out was to be expected since both new ones are pretty big, but dropping below MK Wii is surprising. Especially since we didn't have any stock problems with MK Wii lately, only at launch. Also didn't expect BF 360 to show up in the charts.

Spielegrotte started to rip apart the MGS4 bundle, selling the game for 10€ cheaper than the MSRP. Looks like the game was extremely frontloaded.

What's the UVP anyways? € 69,99? Because Amazon is selling it for € 54,95, which I thought was pretty cheap for this game. Don't know if that was the price they started at though. If UVP was € 69,99 and they started close to it then it's a good indicator that the actual demand did not meet the calculated one.

In regards to Spielegrotte it has to be mentioned that Marc does most of its business with 360 - PS3, Wii not so much. Maybe he just thought MGS4 would drive more potential PS3 owners to his shop.

It started with 69,99€, and stayed this for about ten days, then it was 59,99€. The "unbundled" version goes for 49,99€ now.

Thanks for the info. Imagine spending € 70 on launch :lol .

welcome to real life.

I think Konami wants to milk the cow as soon as possible. Price drops 6 months later usually dont make any sense...

Huh? Price drops always have the same sense -to clear inventory obviously unsellable at the previous price point- no matter how late they are made.

*shrugs* Well, isn´t it always the case with preorders / early adopting?
Is it? I wouldn't have expected it for a game like MGS4. For instance I pre-ordered SSBB for € 45 and I don't expect the price to go down any time soon.

I'm pretty sure this isn't Konami's doing.

Depends on your definition of "soon" ;)
