UK :

Nintendo and EA knock ‘Lego Indiana Jones’ down to No3 as ‘Super Smash Bros: Brawl’ on Wii celebrates an All Formats No1 debut ahead of competition from EA’s new recruit ‘Battlefield: Bad Company’ on Xbox 360/PS3 at No2.
It is Nintendo’s 4th All Formats No1 so far this year with ‘Super Smash Bros. Brawl’ becoming the 3rd largest UK Wii launch behind ‘Wii Fit’ and ‘Mario Kart Wii’. It’s also a bumper week for Nintendo’s console thanks to renewed stock of ‘Wii Fit’ pushing it up from No27 to No4 (sales up 643%) as well as Wii-exclusive ‘Big Beach Sports’ from THQ entering at No5 ahead of ‘Mario Kart Wii’, bouncing back into the Top 10, up from No11 to No7. There are now 4 Wii-exclusive games in the All Formats Top 10 with PS3 ‘Metal Gear Sold 4’ the only other format-exclusive All Formats Top 10 title, down from No2 to No6. ‘GTA IV’ almost drops out of the All Formats Top 10, down from No4 to No10, but Take 2 can claim two Top 10 games this week thanks to ‘Top Spin 3’ for Wii, PS3 & 360 rising up the rankings from No12 to No8 in its second week of launch.
One Sega Olympics game replaces another in the All Formats Top 10 as ‘Beijing 2008’ debuts at No9 for 360 & PS3 and ‘Mario and Sonic at the Olympics’ drops out of the Top 10, down from No6 to No11. There are 2 other newcomers that make this week’s All Formats Top 20 – ‘Guitar Hero: Aerosmith’ at No14 from Activision and ‘The Bourne Conspiracy’ for 360 & PS3 from Vivendi at No15.

Big dive from MGs4 in the Uk.

Surprise debut by Bad Company at no2, and Big Beach Sports at no4:)lol ).

Wii fit back probably means spike in Wii sales, if that's even possible.

# 5 out of 40 is not a Big dive

Well, MGS is huge, so yeah, would've expected that by week 3, if it had dropped from 1st it would've been to something like 2nd or 3rd. Dropping to 5 is big to me. I compare it to GTAIV and COD4, Halo 3. Or shouldn't i? I hold MGS that high.

Wii-Fit restock!

Surprised to see the Wii version of Top Spin 3 outselling the 360/PS3 versions.

Oh, and:

WII: 12
360: 10
NDS: 9
PS3: 7
PS2: 1
PSP: 1

SSBB at no 1 doesn't surprise me.

What I want to know is the actual numbers that way I can add 1 months sales of SSBB compare it to Halo 3 and serve up the hickory smoked crow slow cooked to perfection (its pretty juicy).

EDIT: I meant first month sales not LTD

Most games sell best on Wii so it's not that surprising in and of itself, what seems odd here is that the Wii version enters at #22 this week after not even making the top 40 last week. (It was only #17 on the Wii chart.)

I just didn't get on with the Bad company I thought it so average, Its funny to see it doing so well.

MGS was always going to be a front loaded game because people desperately want to know the story, its no surprise to see it drop of in its 3rd week imo

GTA4 has dropped like a rock compared to previous versions, I guess the userbase just isn't there on the PS3 and 360 to sustain huge sales indefinitely.

WiiFit will delete MGS4 from its spatial coordinates. Prepare to get derived and drowned in the sea of imaginary numbers. :p

Not really, as the 360 demo has been very popular (only beaten by CoD4, Halo 3 and GTA IV since it went up). It's also a good game.

Wow.
And SSBB on top is not unexpected. More people to play online yay.

I didn't think SSBB would be this popular in the UK. The GC SSBM has only a silver award (above 100k but below 200k I think) but SSBB has the third biggest Wii opening. Quite a jump in popularity me thinks. Then again they showed quite a few TV ads here in Germany - should be the same in the UK I guess. That always helps with the sales.

Wii owners buying software in droves is usually a good thing, but Big Beach Sports really looked atrocious. I hope it falls flat due to bad word of mouth.

AitD is free falling - more cease and decists coming? Phil to commit suicide?

Kind of surprised to see Indy going down pretty fast as well - I thought it would've more staying power. Maybe it's just getting too crowded with all these releases.

The GC only had 2 gold awarded games so SSBM's low sales was representative of software on the console as a whole, not the franchise's.

Nintendo's success in the UK console market is such a turnaround from 5 years ago it deserves being mentioned again.

I thought the adverts were a bit crap for SSBB but is raises awareness. Even that side of the turnaround things in staggering.

MGS4 holds up well and nice to see Nintendo finally getting around to stocking Wii Fit.

It's used as the sponsor for Gladiators in the UK.

While that is true, these two games were SMS and MK iirc. SSBB had a higher entry than SMG and that had the benefit of a near-christmas launch. I still think it's a jump in popularity with the 3rd biggest Wii launch.

The ads get the job done - not to imaginative or anything but at least they show gameplay footage - you don't see that very often these days.

Best competitive online FPS to be released in the last 10 years.
That's one bold claim in the light of Q3A and all the other awesome games. Afaik BC is basically a BF spin-off with a heavier emphasis on action and destructability, no? In terms of class based combat QW beats out BF any time of the day, better balancing, better level design. Plus how can you come to this conclusion after the game has been out a couple of days?

which is on a channel most people cant get, seems a little stupid to me for nintendo to stop sponsoring channel 4 comedy (which gave them vast amounts of advertising time on lots of shows) to just sponsoring one program on sky1
