TACTICS OGRE: LET US CLING TOGETHER
Dream Team of Developers Reunites to Bring the Beloved Strategy RPG to the PSP System

LOS ANGELES (July 21, 2010) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today the upcoming release of TACTICS OGRE™: Let Us Cling Together™, a PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system reinvention of the strategy RPG. Hiroshi Minagawa (Director), Akihiko Yoshida (Character Design), Yasumi Matsuno (Game Design), Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata (Composers) are pleased to return to TACTICS OGRE and to revitalize their masterpiece for a new format and era – created with the simple idea – “how TACTICS OGRE would be if it was developed and played now.”

TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together, is being reborn from the ground up, with reworked visuals and effects, a re-arranged soundtrack by the original composers, new character growth mechanics and a new Wheel of Fortune system that adds even more replay value to the game.

OH MY GOD

Director: Hiroshi Minagawa
Game Design: Yasumi Matsuno
Character Design: Akihiko Yoshida, Tsubasa Masao
Music: Hitoshi Sakimoto, Masaharu Iwata

Published by Square Enix

Edit1: This is a remake of the original TO, and the new story scenarios and characters are written by Matsuno. Matsuno is personally revising the original script and in charge of all story and gameplay changes and improvements.

Edit2: http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2010/07/21/flying_get/

Here are a few points from the FF Reunion summary:

- Even though it may look like the game's visuals haven't changed much, they have been improved over the original. They're trying to keep the Super Famicom-like look of the game.

- They'd actually be proud if people would say that it's the same as the original.

- You can change the angle to view the action from above.

- The height-based play and other basic elements of the original remain in tact.

- They're adding a number of new elements for the game parts and battle parts. The battles will be greatly changed.

- The game will have a variety of new skill-based gameplay features.

- There will be new classes.

- The battle maps character count has increased from the 10 vs 10 of the original to 12 on your side vs 18 on the enemy side, for a total of 30 characters on screen.

- This is not a "Tactics Ogre Perfect Version," but a "rebuilding" of Tactics Ogre. It doesn't fit within the framework of a "remake."

- You won't be able to use your strategies from the original for the sequel.

The magazine also says that the game is being re-imagined under the basis of "If you developed and played Tactics Ogre in this day and age, it would be like this." There will be a number of new gameplay systems.

Holy shit, original Tactics Ogre game for PSP...

Designed (but not directed) by Matsuno. Yoshida back as character designer, Sakimoto and Iwada back composing... Director is Hiroshi Minagawa, who was the art director of the original.

:O :O :O

Matsuno!

something he did before getting "sick"?

Was hoping they'd call it Fat Bottomed Girls but nonetheless this is great news. Heard a rumor about this over a year ago -- guess it was true! Exciting. :)

For those who don't understand why people are shitting themselves in glee, here is Matsuno's resume. This side of Shiggy, he's about as perfect as a Japanese developer who has worked on a range of series can get. He's an RPG GOD!

In 1995, Matsuno joined Squaresoft Co., Ltd. after quitting Quest. His colleagues at Square Enix usually called him by his nickname "YAZZ".

At Squaresoft, Matsuno oversaw the development of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PlayStation. Similar in design and gameplay to Tactics Ogre, it was lauded for its highly intricate and convoluted story.

After the release of Final Fantasy Tactics, Matsuno and his team began development on Vagrant Story. Smaller in scope than Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story was still highly regarded by critics and has gained somewhat of a cult following since its release.

Matsuno supervised Square's PlayOnline project prior to its first beta release in 2001.[3] He then produced Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Game Boy Advance system, which shares the Final Fantasy Tactics system but has an entirely different storyline.

Final Fantasy XII was co-directed by Matsuno and Hiroyuki Itō, and written by Matsuno, though his official credits are listed as "Story and Concept". He had to bow out of the game's staff, ostensibly due to health issues. According to e-mail responses from the Square Enix Information Center, Matsuno left Square Enix on August 31, 2005, following his step-down from directing Final Fantasy XII but a developer implies he had no longer appeared in the front of the team by the end of 2004.[citation needed] On February 25, 2010, Matsuno spoke out on his departure from the Final Fantasy XII project on his Twitter page, although the message is in Japanese. Matsuno states that while he had been sick, he had nevertheless let down the Square Enix staff, shareholders, and fans who had been looking forward to the game. [4]

Has to be a remake like FFT.

Until it's confirmed I do not believe Matsuno is involved in the game. I think he's just getting credit because if it's a remake then he did the original design. After FFXII fiasco it's hard to imagine SE working with Matsuno again.

I cannot post the other scan.

Are all those characters in that scan just characters from Let Us Cling Together? It's been so long since I played the game that the only one I recognize is the main character.
