Forza Motorsport 4 - The Floodgates Have Opened...

Yea the rims are look especially dodgy in this ultra-high res batch, but goddamn, the shaders/lighting on the bodywork is amazing

i am sure there's more than a few good looking rims among the custom ones :)

i'm more concerned of the rims being swapped with blurred versions of themselves, i wish they would stop doing that.

You mean when the cars are moving fast on track? I'm not sure there's a better way to efficiently show motion blur on them, is there?

well, during replays FM does have object based motion blur, so they would indeed show an accurate motion blur and ingame, at 60fps, there's no need to fake motion blur.

They swap the 3d models with textures. I think PD does the same in GT5.

Only problem I have with the textured alloys when cars move fast is that they blur them to the point of wheels looking like glass dinner dishes, way too smooth and clear, pgr 3 and 4 did this so EXTREME that is really annoyed me in photo mode.

it's shitty and lame.

So I need to get a 360 for this game (already have the game ordered). I was wondering what ForzaGaf's opinion of the kinetic was at this time. Do you think it will be worth it for this game and possibly other games in the future?

I am looking at getting the 250 gig packaged with the kinetic option.

I say "why not" if you're getting the package ... but honestly nothing has really been shown that impresses me much about it. I've had the opportunity to snag one for under $100 and passed and when all is said and done I've probably spent over $600 for this game (and racing games in general) with the Wheel, stand, and CSP.

So, if you see other Kinect games you want to play, go for it, but JUST for this? I wouldn't think so, they really haven't shown us anything to be a "must have" and while head tracking is neat, I didn't use it in GT5 at all though.

Lol, don't remind me..! I'm well over £1,000 (circa US$1,600) spent already in the past couple of months and there's still things I want to do before launch (eg Kinect). And that was with getting a massive bargain on the Playseat rig.

I'd laugh my ass off* if FM4 turned out to be a turkey come October.

Ya I don't really see myself using it often...guess I will just wait and see if Amazon or anyone does a deal on a 250 Gig Slim before the game comes out

If I had a wheel for the 360, I'd totally get Kinect just for the head tracking. AutoVista seems to be worse with Kinect, because you have to "press and hold" longer.

yes, exactly. And despite them spinning you can tell they're flat.
IIRC, GT5P didn't do this, but GT5 went back to using textures. I can understand it helps saving resources, but i am not sure just how much it's worth it

I planned to ty the Kinect headtracking, my son hasn't used his since xmas day but I don't know how well if it all it'd work on my setup, does it need much light?

The only light in my room is from the projector.

Did you use head tracking in GT5? I personally found it to be not all that responsive or great. Maybe Kinect will be different.

It shouldn't require light as it's "near-IR" tech. It shoots beams of light out and the bounceback is how it tracks you from what I understand, so a dark room shouldn't inhibit it but lights in the background and such might.

EDIT:

Here's a cool video showing what it looks like in a dark room - LAZER BEEMZ!

the infra red is used mostly so no light should be fine for kinect, but who knows how the forza 4 tracking will work.

I used it when I got the game and it worked pretty well. But when I realized that it only works in arcade mode, I wanted to smash the PSeye in Yamauchi's face.

Wow, it did? I only tried it in Arcade mode when I first got the game (usually jump into that mode for a few races to get the feel with a new racing game) and didn't bother trying it in career because I wasn't too impressed. But I also move around a lot with distractions so it might not have been for me.

It was something I said I'd always do when I had a suitable spare room for a permanent set-up, and I can always easily justify the costs of things like this to myself (eg my early-adopter £4.5k SD 42" plasma - EEK!) by thinking of all the money I've saved over the years by not smoking. I am quite excellent at conning myself. I don't even see myself coming, sometimes.

Turn10, just make a game with all these cars...do it..

So Turn10 sent me a message in Forza 3 regarding my submission for the Forza 4 pre-order bonus. I was surprised when playing it yesterday. There was an RX-7 (forget the details) attached to it also unless I got that from a level up but I'm pretty sure I didn't.

It should work. I recall Activision saying the network and multiplayer for the game will remain intact even after they close the studio.

I'd say skip the Kinect bundle. I just don't see it offering enough to make it worthwhile. I think these Forza features are going to be throwaway crap that no one touches after trying it for 10 minutes.

If you look at what is coming for the Kinect down the road it's not a pretty picture.

The lovely MkI was '68 - '74.

EDIT: Oh shit, son - I was looking at the wrong one. Spreadsheet fatigue! '74 MkI confirmed! Wooooo Hooooo!

That was the first preorder incentive. The RX7 Sprirt R Type A unicorn that only available from T10. It has a nice TopGear test track livery.

Nothing is in the game that hasn't been confirmed. That list would be a great way for T10 to see what cars are really wanted for the next game, but nothing is assured. The only cars I think we can be even partly sure of are the ones that won the Forzalopnik contest but didn't actually make it into Forza 3. (Starion, Syclone, Omni GLH-S)

Yep, it's all I did. SS of my receipt and just PS'd my gamertag and date on it (they ask on the incentive page to do this).

Ordered through Amazon.

My favorite car/most used car in my 450+ hours of F3 was my SuperGT Eneos Lexus #6. I have like fourteen of them, each with a different kickass livery. Loved that car!

I'd love an open wheeler as well. Even if it was just a made up car, like the GT series' use of the Formula GT.

I must be the only person here who doesn't actually care to see rallying in Forza. Don't get me wrong, it's an incredible racing discipline, but unless Turn 10 could dedicate the resources to represent the sport faithfully and substantially-- which I don't see happening on a two-year dev cycle with all the other stuff they're trying to do-- I'd rather they kept the focus on tarmac racing.

At the very least, qualifying and proper pit stops, not to mention updating some (many) of the existing racetracks, would be nice.

I get that, and to be perfectly honest, it's what I spend most of my time doing as well.

It's just that GT cars represent the pinnacle of what production-derived cars can achieve, and the fact that they're based on cars you can see on the road (albeit highly modified), makes them much more relatable than the more exotic open-wheelers, which, I agree, ought to be in Forza in some form or another by now.

As a choice I'd much rather have updated tracks (and more tracks) as well. But I'd be willing to pay for DLC that does any of these extras.

Totally agree. DiRT has my rallying covered, thankyouverymuch. Forza is already losing a bit of focus. I'd hate to see the core gameplay diluted and suffer as a result.

I'm completely the opposite. I play racing games to mimic the motorsports I follow. I'll never be an FIA GT or ALMS driver, that's why I enjoy these games. The bigger the R Class list the better IMO. Now they need more tracks of those racing series.
I also love painting race replicas, putting ones in the game that weren't included.

I don't want to drive a Civic or an Altima around, I do that every day. Granted not at a track day, but gimme a GT car on a licensed track anyday over that.

Fair enough. You should look into GTR2 and Race 07 + expansions.
