Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these
gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to 4 players
in co-op mode.

Set in an open world tropical island, hordes of different festering zombies await players around every corner while they embark on a variety of thrilling
missions through the holiday resort. With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on utilizing found items as weapons for self-defense and
fight off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift
weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

experience different people and cultures. She is a fast learner, intelligent, and also-as a passionate sportswoman-quick on her feet. Having just arrived at
Banoi Island, Xian Mei was responsible for myriad menial tasks at the hotel, before starting work as a receptionist. This opportunity to meet and greet all the
different nationalities that visited the hotel was ideal for Xian Mei, as it provided a perfect source of inspiration for her dreams of travelling the globe.

Sam B, a one-hit wonder rap star of fading fame. He was booked by the Royal Palms Resort to perform his well known song "Who Do You Voodoo?" at a high
profile hotel party. He gladly took the chance to play this gig. Once strong, self-confident and proud, Sam B has had a troubled past and a history of drug and
alcohol abuse, as his private life became caught in a haze of fake friends and bad advisors.

career. His fall from stardom inevitably followed and he plunged swiftly into a life of bitterness and despair. In an attempt to get away from the demons
hunting him, he gladly takes the chance to experience the beauties and wonders of Banoi Island.

Official Playstation Magazine - Italy: 8.5
In conclusion, the work done by the team turns out to be good, able to entertain fans of the FPS genre is that of RPGs. Although note the desire to create
an innovative game Techland and long-lived, are still some aspects in which he would have done more. We remain convinced that the title still manages to
carve a good niche in the market thanks to the interesting ideas that he proposes.

GamesWelt: 86%
Just the main story will keep you busy 30 hours, with the action, however, posed a bit towards the end of the air. But Techland so many interesting
areas and missions, has packed on the island that you can get over this easily. As well as technical flaws, such as the visible image formation
and clipping errors.

IGN: 8.5/10
Dead Island probably won't win any game of the year awards. It's got visual bugs, the controls take a bit to feel normal, and the presentation in
general isn't up to snuff. But the game gets a lot right. There is a huge world to explore, thousands of zombies to kill, and tons of side quests to take.
Here on the other side of a 25-hour playthrough -- where I skipped a lot of side quests after Act 1 -- I'm anxious to get back into Dead Island, and
despite the game's flaws, that's not something I say often.

Teambox: 9/10
this game is too fun to play and too unique an experience to be really nit-picky on the things that didn’t go exactly as I’d rather them go. As I write
these final thoughts, there is only one review out there on the web, and if the rest of the press agrees with that reviewer’s thoughts, my review will
likely be one of the higher-scoring ones out there. That’s fine though; I truly stand behind this score. Hopefully you will pick this game up and
experience one of the most engaging experiences I’ve had with my 360 in quite some time. This is a game that needs to be in a gamer’s collection,
so try to make it happen if you can, guys.

Eurogamer: 6/10
I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the experience though. Dead Island is a deeply flawed game, but it's also clearly a low-budget game and one
that has interesting ideas, often under-served by the bargain-basement code. Finding the diamonds in the rough demands a lot of patience, and
enough investment in the base joys of zombie slaughter to tolerate the laundry list of flaws.

Destructoid: 7/10
Is Dead Island good? Yes it is ... but it isn't at the same time. It's inspired, but turgid. Brilliant, but flawed. Fun, but infuriating. Like the living
dead itself, Dead Island is a contradiction from beginning to end. However, I feel you need to play it, because despite copying so much from
infinitely smoother games, there's nothing quite like it on the market. That, itself, is yet another contradiction in the confused, conflicted,
often completely beautiful mess that is Dead Island.

Joystiq: 3/5
There's so much content in Dead Island, it's a real shame the work wasn't done to take it from functional to fun. Some of it works: There's a
beautiful world to explore here, some genuinely neat ideas and cool weapons. But the end product too closely mirrors its antagonists:
Shambling forward, but only just.

Gamereactors: 7/10
In the end, I still have great fun with Dead Island , a pile of flaws notwithstanding. Going into a dark and bloodstained bungalows with thatched
roofs, only lit by a flickering TV with the sea lapping in the background while you hear hissing breath around is a great feeling. Techland has
done a good job with the graphic and you can almost feel the ingrained smell of both zombies and charters through the screen. Deterrent lets
not be ashamed of themselves as well as the solid content of things to do and explore. In short, odot scum as usual the best travel companion
man gamer could wish for.

Gametrailers : 8.5
review summary in the video link^

FZ.se : 4/5
Dead Island do not live up to that first film. It was an impossibility, there is no game that can compete with their well-made trailers, but in its
genre, it is a very entertaining piece. Unfortunately, it has inherited much of the low production values of film cousins are usually stuck with,
but it has never prevented them from being celebrated by all except Oscar jury. Therefore, I can also without a guilty conscience recommend
Dead Island to anyone who can not help but gargle "braaaaains" as soon as the undead come up. Banoi proved to be a holiday paradise for
zombie lovers.

Gamersyde : 4/5
Techland is a studio with more ambition than money. It can be felt in the few unsuccessful attempts at creating a strong narrative. It can
also be felt in some of the more emotional cutscenes, or the early steps of social tensions that could have made the game close to the
Walking Dead (a comic book you should definitely check out if you haven't) had they been exploited properly. That being said, even with
the abandonment of its role playing dimension, Dead Island manages to brilliantly become a first person hack & slash. Exploration, combat,
looting, skills/weapons upgrades, everything in the game is well done and makes it fun to play. Because Dead Island also succeeds in
keeping the player in the midst of danger (the game's difficulty is designed to make sure of that), the sense of survival is permanent, which
should please the fans of the genre. Definitely a vintage wine.

Game Informer: 8.5/10
I’ve played a lot of zombie games in my time, and Dead Island scratched an itch I didn’t even know I had. Cooperative undead
survival is nothing new to gaming, but exploring a gigantic zombie-infested island with friends is. I easily poured over 40 hours
into my playthrough, and a new game plus promises even more entertainment. Rewarding character progression and the vast variety
of weapons should appeal to anyone looking for a good time. If you’ve spent your time planning for the zombie apocalypse, Dead
Island is the best option so far to test how long you’d last.

Destructoid : 7/10
Check video for the review.

Gamesradar's : 7/10
I would have given it a higher score. It really is an unfinished game, though, and its problems are not minor annoyances. I really, really
enjoyed playing the game for most of its humongous play time, but it also brought spectacular bouts of frustration. The question to ask
yourself is: is scope and flair more important, or polish? For me, the ambition was enough to call the game good, but it wasn’t quite enough
for greatness.

EDGE : 3/10
Considering our aforementioned proportions, this seems particularly inexplicable. The world doesn’t have the charm to warrant forgiveness,
and progress-halting bugs prevent it anyway. With regular AI freezes and vanishing items, a mistimed autosave can prove fatal. Ultimately
it all invites the refashioning of another line from Romero. When there’s no more room in development hell, the dead losses will walk the Earth.

LATIN, MATRIPEDICABUS, DO YOU SPEAK IT
I'll be building a new PC soon, so not sure which version to go with if I want to play this sooner.

This comes out the same day as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Resistance 3. Oh my fucking God. I may be spending $180 on games that day. Interested to see how reviews are for this. Is the co-op campaign co-op or some other mode?

Still without luck
Nice OT, MRORANGE. I am fully prepared for this game to be no good, but I'll wait and see.

Great OT.

Thank you for using the real Dead Island logo and not the watered down version. Got this baby pre-ordered. 4 player co-op sealed the deal.

Contender for most creative OT title? "Who do you Voodoo?" would have been so much better!
that was my original thought as well, but some people wanted no subtitle, so I thought to use something really simple.

Gah... I wish I could buy this game when it comes out :( will have to wait a month or so :(

Is it Steamworks?
Yes, it is.

I got this for free due to winning the Steam Summer Sale contest, so I certainly won't be arguing with the price of entry! I'm anticipating maximum shenanigans and more bugs than my backyard has.

If you haven't bought the game yet it's still going for $34 on Green Man Gaming for the PC edition by using the coupon "SUNNY-SAVER-20PEC" at checkout. You can get $5 back if you use a referral from someone (If you want mine just PM me). It's a great deal even if you're even partially interested.

That subtitle is so good and bad it's bad and good.

Still have the game pre-ordered. Reviews shall decide.
It reminds me of the HotD film's better exchanges:

Capt. Victor Kirk: You know what they call this island? 'Isla del Muerte'
Salish: Muerte. That's Spanish for 'death.' In case you don't speak Mexican.

Do we know why they went soft with the Xbox box art but have the hanging dude on PC and PS3?

The PC and PS3 boxarts are euro covers. All three US covers do not feature the hanging dude.

Does anyone know if you actually rescue people, like in Dead Rising, or is it more like you do quests for them and then they make their way to a shelter on their own?

This has been a really weird gen when it comes to box art censorship. L4D's disembodied hand wasn't kosher, but Dead Space 1's arm was A-OK?

It's the same on all 3 in the states, you probably don't want to get into that conversation in the OT. You can just use your imagination as to why it was changed.
