NCsoft’s hotly anticipated MMO ‘Guild Wars 2’ debuts at No1 this week, knocking ‘Sleeping Dogs’ (-38%) down to No2.

Released on Tuesday and benefiting from a long running pre-purchase scheme, ‘Guild Wars 2’ records the second largest launch ever for a non-Warcraft MMO PC title, behind ‘Star Wars: The Old Republic’. It is also the first PC-only release to reach No1 in the All Formats Chart since ‘Football Manager 2011’ back in November 2010. There is no change at No3 and No4 with ‘New Super Mario Bros. 2’ (-36%) flying the flag for 3DS at No3 and ‘London 2012’ holding on to No4, sales up 4% (perhaps boosted slightly by the start of the Paralympic Games). ‘Lego Batman 2’ (-12%) manages to climb one place to No5, but ‘Darksiders II’ (-71%) slides from No2 to No6. There are 2 more new titles that make the Top 40 this week: ‘Madden NFL 13’ new at No7 and Namco-Bandai’s JRPG ‘Tales of Graces F’ on PS3 new at No14.

‘Transformers: Fall of Cybertron’ (-39%) drops 3 places to No8, ahead of ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’ (-5%) which has never dropped out of the Top 10 since it was released 15 weeks ago. The Top 10 is rounded off by the return of ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’ (+84%) which is back in the Top 10 (up from No17) after a 3 week absence.

Sleeping Dogs to have great legs confirmed. So far it's done over 250k in total in the UK alone, that's mighty impressive for just 360/PS3. I need to see NPD now before I can jump to joy on the future of this series.

Is that avatar the result of a bet?

Why, because I like that a mediocre Mario game got beaten by a superior title? Not all of us Nintendo fans are ridiculous. Sleeping Dogs deserves success. A lot of effort clearly went into that game. I honestly wish I could say the same about NSMB2.

me too I'm happy to see sleeping dogs doing good sales in UK.
but this mediocre mario thing is becoming a meme.
it's way better than the previous on DS under various points of view, so basically seeing it selling less than the DS one (if this will be the case in the West: up to now it's doing well it seems) wouldn't be such a great revenge for quality games, for example

You have a source for that UK figure? Would be nice if true.

First week sales was over 110k and the second week drop was only 17 percent and then this week it was 43 percent. On average it's easily 250k sales. You can check the previous charts with the sales results and do the adding up. All is good news!

The Mario 3D Land love says otherwise, its quite widespread and even those who didn't really like it mostly respect it for what it is.

NSMB2 is just a business decision. I won't buy it, but like wise it doesn't really bother me. Sort of in my peripheral vision really.

What? Gold Rush mode alone makes NSMB2 an amazing game. That is, if you're skilled.

Who on earth is buying Madden NFL in the UK? The FIFA games are bad enough, we don't need more sports titles going to landfill in a years time.

I don't get why Land says otherwise :\
I was just saying that New Mario 2 is better than New Mario DS, so I don't understand why I should be happy if it sells less than the DS iteration.

Trying to find the chart that had the sales of the 360 and PS3 version (I swear I saw the units sold) but can't seem to find it but I am definitely sure it was around 110k combined for the two. Also to go in factor it was the 6th biggest title launch in the UK and Super Mario bros sold 65k and the PS3 version was under that in the list and the 360 version was higher? Take away the 15 percent of the second week and then the 45 percent drop of its second week sales then it's definitely the 250k range.

What skill does it take to get the max 30k coins? Use koopa glitch, hit 3 flagpoles, 30k of coins. Where the game should have shined was in multiplayer, but it's a huge fail. Why make both users have their own copy of the game and then force them both to be in the same exact spot in a level? That's just bad.

Edit: Ignore me, I was thinking that NSMB2 outsold SD 360 first week but it didn't.

They had to leave out stuff to be fixed for NSMB3. If they got it all right the first time, making a better sequal would be harder :p

Anyway for me glitches were always a part of Mario, they always added some more magic.

No mario game was glitched before and abused to death

Amen to that. I'm patiently biding my time until this November so I can build my new PC with a 660ti for Sleeping Dogs.

So what are the thoughts on Darksiders II's sales then? That steep drop off does not inspire confidence, especially compared to Sleeping Dog's surprising legs.

DSII was a letdown for me. Some good dungeons, but overall they created a giant world with hardly anything of interest in it outside of the dungeons. Sleeping Dogs is very deserving of its higher sales. I hope both do well enough to get a sequel.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
At least we all can agree that both DS and 3DS New Mario games are below Nintendo standards.

Home console titles were always better than their handheld games - i mean the GBA only got Mario ports after all.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I don't see it.

Mind posting a link?

He's probably referring to the fact that we know that

1)NSMB2 did 30% higher than NSMB at its debut
2)NSMB debuted lower than Super Mario 64 DS (50k)

And then BKK estimated a range for NSMB2 between 0 (eh) and 65k. It's not that the game did surely 65k, it's just the highest it could have done in its first week.

B...but I thought Nintendo always put their A studios/team on handhelds unlike Sony

Just kidding guys, don't want this to turn into fanboy wars again
