Square Enix and developer United Front Games’ new title ‘Sleeping Dogs’ is at the top of our All Formats chart this week.

While taking the No1 spot it also becomes the sixth best selling game on first week sales in 2012. It means Nintendo’s much anticipated ‘New Super Mario Bros 2’ has to settle for No2 spot, a still impressive achievement as the title is only available on 3DS. It also matches its predecessor ‘New Super Mario Bros’ which hit the charts at No2 back in Week 26 2006. With the curtain coming down on the Olympics ‘London 2012: The Official Video Game’ (-37%) slips to No3 on the podium.

‘Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes’ (+20%) drops from No2 to No4 despite an increase in sales. Mario appears twice in our Top 10 swapping Luigi for Sonic this time as ‘Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games’ (-18%) slides from No3 to No5. Impressive figures boosted by retailer promotions see both ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’ (+46%) and ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7’ (+94%) re-enter the Top 10 at No8 and No10.

In your face, Activision.

What does Sleeping Dogs have to do with Activision?
The game was originally True Crime Hong Kong, meant to be published by Activision. They cancelled it, as they thought it wasn't going to be a critical or commercial success, and Square picked it up.

Well this is the game that is meant to help boost the 3DS hardware units higher throughout the world, so the next couple of weeks will be interesting to see if NSMB2 does put through or not.

Dat 3DS software variety.
It's pretty varied, all those games are from different genres, thus none of them play similar.

...... games?
Pretty much.

Yes. A wide and varied range of first and third party titles spanning many genres. That's what I was getting at.
erm.....there's 4 genres right there.
Where have you been the last 30 years? Western developers were never keen on handheld gaming. They never put their main teams and/or huge budgets on handheld games.
Not even on the DS, the best selling gaming device in the history of gaming. Look at the Japanese charts and try to say that with a straight face.

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
...... games?

that people like and are interested in.
third parties will hardly find space in portable gaming in the west, especially if they'll not look for that space.
there is Japan for great third party results on 3ds.

At least KH did well in Europe.

Upcoming 3DS games

Castlemario
Lego Mario of the rings
Scribblemario
Epic Mario

Third parties should just do that.

It was a joke. All charting titles have 'Mario' in the name and to me that is funny (and indicative of a ferociously powerful brand). Just a joke, don't take it so seriously.

Apart from the third party requirement that's true for those titles :p
Sega?!

I bet the guys behind Rayman Origins and Sonic Generations wish they'd thought of that. Did either of those even chart on 3DS?

Sonic Generations sold really great, in fact it is still in the 3DS chart.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Why would anyone expect low budget handheld titles to sell as much as console titles, when the dev costs are only a fraction of those. There is no reason to be worried every time a shitty 3DS title doesnt chart, if the publisher fault for charging these prices without having the quality to back it up.

No marketing for most games, cant help either...the plattform is kinda selling, so it should be the publshers responsibility to get customers buying their products. With NoE distributing many third party titles nowadays you can tell that they just dont care, why should customers care if publishers theselves dont believe in their products.

UK market is screwed either way, so im more happy for good result in the european main land.

That honestly surprises me. Any idea about Rayman?

Worst version of a game, released nearly a year after the original...why would it sell well ? And its more expensive than the PC, PS360 and Vita version right now.

I am waiting for 3rd parties to finally realise that they have to advertise and market software on nintendo devices. Its not up to Nintendo to push there software!!

Wait Europe got Rayman Origins?

It was so bizarre. A press release came out saying it was delayed but didnt specify it was just the US version. I expected the delay and then a week later my copy was shipped.

Why delay the US version but still release the pal version?

Rayman Origins 3DS is going cheap in GAME if anyone is interested. It's really good too! Great if you don't have any other version, or don't have a Vita etc.

I'm among the guilty for the NSMB2 number 1 / 3DS XL sales. Couldn't resist!

Deacan

9/10 NeoGAFfers don't understand statistics. The other 3/10 don't care.
Seems Sleeping Dogs has sold out on my local high street.

Sleeping Dogs either sold really well or NSMB 2 sold really terribly. Either way, for the biggest game the 3DS will ever get I'm not impressed.
