PAL Charts - Week 33, 2012

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Sonic Generations sold really great, in fact it is still in the 3DS chart.

Aaaaand if you look at the Guardian top 20, here's the situation in UK for this week.

PS3 (43)
Xbox 360 (29)
3DS (28)
PC (0)

However, NSMB2 had a good debut, and KH3D performed well last month across all Europe. Probably it's out of top 40 due to shortages: for all the week it was sold by external retailers, with just 10 copies available, at 34 Pounds on Amazon, and it's sold out on Game too. Amazon will start selling KH3D again from Thursday. Possibly, we'll see it again pretty highly on German chart this Wednesday.

Let's see how NSMB2 performs in the long run, it's good to see SML3D and MK7 charting high even to this day.

As for first-party dominance, news at eleven. It was the same with the DS, especially early in its life. At least Nintendo is growing the 3DS install base.

It seems KH3D saw respectable numbers.
Btw, funny to see people complaining that 3DS is actually selling nicely.

Do we have an estimation of what are the other 5 bigger debuts and their numbers?

Mass Effect 3
Max Payne 3
Diablo 3
...

Huh? I didn't complain about the device selling
(although I won't pretend to be happy about it)
. I was just giggling at the fact all the titles that charted have 'Mario' in them. I'm in this thread every week, usually cheering for GT5 and Forza 4!

Dave is good people

NSMB had a very slow start in Europe and America. Brand popularity was at an all time low when it launched.

That link only confirms the game's failing to live up to expectations, as it has in Japan.

I don't know about Europe but the original NSMB sold at a rate of 20 copies every minute during its first 12 weeks in America. It was number 1 in the May 2006 NPD, generating something like $9.5m all by itself. Are you thinking of one of the later games?

It's pretty varied, all those games are from different genres, thus none of them play similar.

Pretty much.

erm.....there's 4 genres right there.
Where have you been the last 30 years? Western developers were never keen on handheld gaming. They never put their main teams and/or huge budgets on handheld games.
Not even on the DS, the best selling gaming device in the history of gaming. Look at the Japanese charts and try to say that with a straight face.
I don't give a shit about what genres they are.

It is not healthy for the long term future of the 3DS for it to be relying on Mario software like it is at the moment.

Third parties have seen bomb after bomb and even Nintendo can't carve out a decent market for any of their other games.

360 has 4 Halo games in the top 40. Is that healthy?
PS3 has 4 Uncharted games in the top 40. Is that healthy?

Tales of the Abyss did very well in Europe according to Namco itself. Sonic Generations is doing well worldwide, Lego games too ( especially in US, but Lego Batman 2 has appeared many times), and we have a pretty good example of a good game saleswise doing well, Kingdom Hearts 3D ( at least in Europe). Those aren't first party, and all did well / pretty well. There have been bombs, but except for Resident Evil, they were very little games / not publicized at all. If there will be more good games saleswise for 3DS doing bad I'll agree, but it's not the case now. However, I hope we'll see another game from Nintendo or even third party if it's possible which isn't Mario sticking in the high places, like KH did / is doing.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Nice Harvest Moon debut - right choice to price it at 29,99€ other publishers could learn a think or twice.

It's too hot in Europe to post the numbers of the charts, that's why we are not getting the usual updates..

They have Mario listed twice on each list... any reason for this or is it just a muddle up from their site?

Mario fatigue...or not? I mean, it is charting (first) even in the Scandinavian countries where its usually hard to see 3ds titles in the top 20.

I don't know why it's listed twice...

Still waiting for the Fr/It/Sp charts... :/

In Italy we have holidays in the middle of August. Almost everything close (shops, offices, kiosks, etc...) at least for the 15th, but usually for the entire week.
New Mario in fact is coming out today, for this reason.
Could it be that also in other countries of the mediterrean sea there is this holiday (at least in Spain, another catholic country)

In France too but if it's the reason why GFK is so late in these countries... Oo

New Super Mario Bros 2 charting first is not that big of a surprise though. In Norway for example, New Super Mario Bros charted for over 220 weeks in the Top 10 handheld charts (not tons of competition there, but still pretty crazy).

It's one of the few 3ds games charting so high in all the Scandinavian markets (Finland, Norway, Sweden) in the all format charts (not only portable), though, and that's what I said.
This, plus the first places in other countries such as Germany and Holland, plus the very positive debut in UK (+30% compared to the debut of New Mario DS) seem to create a very positive picture for its PAL debut.

I'm not saying that is OMG unbelieveble, but simply that is comfirming itself.

Are people just now realising that Mario is also popular in Europe and that handhelds always run on Nintendo's software?

Yep and it's a safe bet to expect it to be the top 1 in France and Italy, and even in Spain. I think the game will be the top 1 in Europe for its week release. Hope we'll get some hardware datas for the same week.

Probably.
I was wondering if in the long term, the presence of New Mario DS (that is still charting here and there in some countries) will affect negatively the performance of New Mario 2 on 3ds, or if the new release will help the new HW in substitute the old one (a process still in progress in the West, for many reasons, as the delay of a lot of important titles compared to Japan, such as Pokemon BW1, Layton 4, Inazuma 2, Pokemon BW2). For this reasons would be interesting to get some HW data (we have some tips for the 3ds XL launch but I don't know if we will get some updates for the New Mario week)

You would think people would be happy that mario was the thing selling the 3ds instead of nintendogs and brain age stuff which people complained about

The pervious norwegian charts stopped updating about a year ago. They only offered seperate console, PC and handheld charts. Hard to say how NSMB would have charted if they combined all charts into one, but i think it would still do great.

It is a good preformance, i didnt mean to say anything against that. I'm just saying that it isnt that surprising :)
