Arriving exclusively for Gran Turismo 5 this Tuesday, the 2014 Corvette Stingray DLC will be available for free through PlayStation Store.

Officially announced at the LA Auto Show last November, Polyphony Digital and Chevrolet worked very closely for months in developing an exclusive firsthand driving experience of the Corvette C7 in Gran Turismo 5. Since its introduction, nearly 500,000 people around the world have driven the camouflaged Corvette Test Prototype. And now, only just the day after the Corvette Stingray’s world debut at the North American International Auto Show, the DLC will be available exclusively through PS Store starting Tuesday.

During the creation of the virtual Corvette Stingray, careful attention was paid to the tiniest details of the new design inside and out, as well as to the enhanced performance and driving characteristics — right down to the shift schedule for the 7-speed manual transmission.

The Corvette Stingray will produce an estimated 450 horsepower and 450 ft. lbs. of torque, is capable of accelerating from 0-60 in less than four seconds and will achieve more than 1g in cornering grip. It will also be the most fuel-efficient Corvette ever, exceeding the EPA-estimated 26 MPG of the current model.

So, does this mean the "Stealth" is kept while getting a new one?

I should start playing GT5 again. This is kind of awesome that this is a thing. New cars like this being unveiled and then being able to 'test drive' them immediately is a cool concept.

the hell? that one freaking ugly Corvette! Chevrolet, what are you doing?

C5(1997–2004) is way better looking than this.

What? No. No. No.gif

It's a sexy car. It's not Corvette though. Nor is it a Stingray. Should've called it something else (it's more Camero than either of the other two), really.

But it's not an ugly car.

Beautiful. PD must be well respected in the automotive industry for them to a have modeled version ready to coincide with the real unveiling.

Nope. Chevy is just going for the 15-34 market in terms of advertising. They even admitted to such for going with GT5.

Is GT5 okay these days? At launch it was a trainwreck.
The improvements they've made subsequent to launch have made it almost a totally different game. Load times are relatively faster across the board, and the driving physics have been improved to the point that it's almost scary how good driving feels in the game. It encouraged me to go and buy a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel and while it's not the most uber wheel on the market but it's a vast improvement over controllers.

The changes to the physics plus a wheel completely changed my slightly negative opinion on the launch game.

:lol if you think they'll give that track out for free. They'll charge for it like they did the Speedpack and the other track (Spa?)

obviously, GT5 has a ton of users, so Chevy is using it for advertising... what else?

The point is: Chevy wouldn't be doing this normally. They did market research for that targeted age segment, saw they play a ton of games/digital racers, and decided to extend an offering to a game company to do this. That's all it is, marketing.

Thank you Captain Obvious.

Of course it's marketing and a win for the player at the same time.

I also find it sort of funny advertising considering the youth in the country is not rich enough to initially invest in a big time car like a Corvette. There are definitely some who can but they are the exception, not the norm.

There are other car games that have DLC too. I'm sure quality of the game is part of the reason.

Looks cool. And I would probably buy Willow Springs if it came up.

3.0 is still a rumour at this point, right?
