MGS:GZ - Looks and Performs a lot better on PS4...

This is probably sarcasm, but in case anyone missed it from the other thread...

Seems like a worse collect-a-ton game than AC4

Yeah, but it'll stop being newsworthy 2-3 years down the line.

it will be news worthy as long as PS4 is cheaper and offers better multiplatforms, especially the most popular ones. The ps360 generation still delivers those digital foundry comparisons today so i expect to see a similar thing with XBO/PS4, especially if they have a shorter cicle than previous genertion

If the Xbox One is going to keep getting lesser third party games Microsoft has to drop the price. No way can this $100 premium over the PS4 last.

Its decent but look at the 2005 reveal trailer. The downdgrade is pretty significant in the final release. It had great lighting but the animations were straight from PS2 and the textures were some of the lowest in resolution I have seen on PS3. Its good that Kojima learned from this and developed a proper engine and the result is this beautiful MGSV.
I don't know - I felt MGS4 was visually spectacular.

Surprise, surprise! We already knew where the definitive versions of multiplats were going to be: the PS4. The hardware specs told us so like over a year ago.

I was naive to think the developers would be able to get some sort of parity be it in performance over frame rate but that doesn't eve seem to be the case whatsoever so far. ;-;

I think that was because of the lighting. I remember the opening sequence of the South America level and it looked almost real or the fight against ocelot. It had its moment but technically it was such a downgrade. Not mentioning the install times it had.

I'm not sure what you're implying here. I thought it was common sense that devs/pubs are going to downplay the differences in platforms in order to not damage sales of a game to people who can only buy the lesser version of the game (i.e. Xbone-only owners).

It is refreshing for someone to tell us the actual differences rather than give an mixed answer.

The GTA4 one for PS3 comes to mind - looked much better on Xbox 360.

Do people at MS actually think that if they keep pretending there isn't a decent sized power disparity that somehow people will just forget?
What do you expect them to do? Hey we built inferior hardware everybody! People want them to fess up or something. Nobody is going to do that.

I'm glad devs are pushing the game they can make on ps4 rather than knee capping it to match xboxone, that was a real fear before launch and the games that followed showed the extra power being used.

Oh sorry I misunderstood your comment. I thought you were implying Kojima was touting the PS4 version as superior somehow made sense from a sales perspective which of course it doesn't. Seems regardless though Kojima isn't really downplaying the differences that much now.

If anything, you should have expected the difference to be much bigger if the devs worked well on the PS4 versions.

He is saying that out of the demo, only 9% is complete with a basic completion. The remaining 91% will be collectibles, side missions, time trials and so on.

So glad I opted for the PS4. Been very pleased with it thus far. I was used the 360 as my primary console last gen. NO regrets so far! MS dropped the ball this gen big time imo.

The gap will only increase as long as devs use the full power of the PS4 - we shall see I guess!

This isn't a PS3 situation, which had stronger hardware than Xbox 360, but was harder to develop for.

The Xbox One is simply inferior by a country mile and harder to develop for.

He really should - isn't MGS' main market the USA? I might be totally wrong, but I thought that series sold the best here, and was lukewarm in Japan.

If I was him, I would use politician speak and say, "Both versions of the game are roughly equivalent.".

But Kojima is not downplaying the difference here, at least according to the second tweet.

Why does downplaying one version stop people who only own that console from buying it? Plenty of people bought inferior multiplats on Xbone at launch despite owning both-- CoD, BF...well, everything. If you told them, "You know, you're getting the shitty version,"--which they knew anyway and picked up the box while wiping away tears-- they're suddenly not going to buy it? If you only have one console, you don't even have a choice. It's not like we're awash in high quality software.

That always frustrated me in PS360 face-offs. I enjoyed them for the technical break downs, but as I only had a PS3, it really didn't sway my purchasing choice unless the PS3 version was so bad that it was unplayable. Yet those seemingly simple technical comparison threads almost inevitably contain a lot of console warrior nonsense.

I realise it is early in the generation, but if you have both Xbox one and PS4, you pretty much know which version of a multiplatform game you are going to buy - PS4 will almost always be better technically (often noticably), so you'll buy that unless you have friends on xbox you want to play with, then you'll swing that way. Pretty much the same as you'd do on PS360, only the other way round.

They can drop the price aggressively (unlikely) or go full on tilt producing and buying exclusives. Titanfall is going to sell a lot of briefcase sized consoles.

Right, and I think it's a mistake on his part.

Disagree. Both consoles use very similar architectures. It's not like either one has some crazy Cell-like processor, or that stupid split memory pool.

Now, it may be harder to get higher sustained resolutions out of the Xbone, but it's not like we are going to get straight up broken multiplatform games on Xbone like we got on PS3.

That damn GPU is going to haunt them this gen, though. The eSRAM is a ruse; it's so tiny (32 meg! Wow! Thanks guys!), it isn't going to make some enormous difference even once devs to start exploiting it. Luckily for them, they have a solid base of Xbox customers who will support them this gen and care more about the ecosystem/controller/friend base than graphics, just like Sony had with their PS3 customers.

The funny thing is this is, I believe, the second thread this week talking about graphics differences on what is essentially a paid demo. It IS interesting to talk about graphical differences in these games, but I wish people would restrain themselves and save it for the post-launch Digital Foundry thread.

It's not like we're awash in high quality software.

That is the bigger problem. I am getting Dark Souls 2 and the South Park RPG on PC, even though I'd really like to be playing them on my PS4. This post-launch lag sucks. I'm not playing that shit on 8 year old hardware. I just can't.

True, unless the differences are significant enough to hurt the playability of the game, like Bayonetta on PS3. I doubt there will be that many cases of that on the Xbox One, but you never know. I'd think a 1080p/60fps PS4 game leaves plenty of room for the Xbox One to be downgraded and still be perfectly playable. If we start seeing 720p multiplats on the PS4, the Xbox One is probably in trouble.

Good point. I guess the loss of sales would come from those that own both PS4/XB1. As they would pick one version over the other, which neither of the platforms would want their version left behind.

Looking at it from a different perspective, im a PS4 only owner as of now, and if my version of the game was gimped due to "parity" reasons, I would not buy it.

Disagree. Both consoles use very similar architectures.
And it's precisely because of this fact that the gap between versions of multiplaform games will only increase as this generation unfolds. It's when games start to get more and more complex and resource hungry that differences in computing power become evident. If you think the differences now are minimal just wait a few years.

Well... it's official. We never have to make another PS4 version of game X is better. It should always be instantly assumed that it is. We should instead make threads when Xbone is better than PS4 as that will be the real surprise.

Nextgen is still very young. This kinds of threads will be popular for a year or two.

I think they happen mostly because the MS mafia is out there saying things like "have you seen Forza?" and constantly down playing it...but what else can they say? :/

Whoever secured Titanfall as a exclusive at MS deserves a tremendous raise because it is the only thing keeping that console in my house.
