I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her
Me: So whats your response to the January NPD numbers.
Microsoft: Have you seen Titanfall?

I have, I cut my eyeballs on the bad IQ, MS is getting my healthcare bill! :p

Choice of one game from a selection, 3 months XBL, free Skype minutes for launch buyers.

Price drop console to $429 with Kinect.

I think they will wait until after Titanfall though.

MS PR has more spin right now than meatspin.

What do they have coming up besides a less than stellar port of Titanfall? inFamous Second Son, DriveClub and MLB 14: The Show are going to sell systems this Spring.

By March? Slow down...

They're behind in the UK, now struggling in their last bastion of America (Canada is part of the NPD figures too, I think), and there isn't a prayer for them in any other market in the world for the except New Zealand if we're using internet memes. Earliest they could or would do a price cut or flush out stock for a drastic rebundle is in 6 months or thereabouts. And that's post Sony's Japan launch and after a few more months of likely losing further ground in the US.

In what realistic scenario do they catch up after allowing that sort of lead WW? Sony would have to utterly fuck up their flawlessly on-point messaging (thus far) or refuse to wiggle on the price. Nothing short of Sony messing up will lead itself to what could be considered a victory by MS. Not unless they are bleeding their smaller ecosystem dry with microtransactions and paywalls. The early adopters have spoken, they've made their purchases, that well has dried up. Now we're witnessing actual demand. And its not for the X1.

This sort of precipitousness accelerates, and rarely reverses form. You can bookmark this, but by March we'll see the X1 just limping along to 4m - if its lucky- and Sony celebrating 7m. Those ratios of decay and growth, respectively, will increase.

Honestly the X1 install base doesn't hurt EA or Respawn that much. The install base of the 360 will push TF sales, and I'm guessing that the 360 will be the lead sales platform probably. It does hurt MS though, because it doesn't push a lot of boxes out of the door.

Sony's worldwide lead is going to be insane. To think...they haven't even launched in Japan yet.

Return of the King, indeed.

I figured, but as I'm running on 3 hours sleep, I thought maybe I really was just missing something.

The headline is an outright fabrication. It seems a wee early to get that desperate, but here we are.

I love how fast data changes things; a half hour ago we weren't sure how things were shaking out. Now we know MS must be panicking. I really did not anticipate a collapse this sharp even given the price disparity. Not this soon, at any rate.

I had heard from MULTIPLE people around the time those leaks came out from that krnl guy that the Titanfall bundle coming back was a direct result of the dire numbers they were seeing for January. So I'm not altogether surprised. Microsoft has actually been probably worrying internally for a little while now.

Hopefully this is a signal to MS to pull out all the stops and the stubborn head they have will be cut off. Frankly they needed to be put in place like Sony did last gen.

The overreactions in this thread are priceless.

Agreed... Xbox One is ahead of 360 sales during the same period.

Sure, PS4 sales are great and Sony should be proud of the resurgence of the brand but it doesn't mean sales of Xbox One are bad or EA should have regrets or anything else.

It just means XB1 sales are ahead of 360 sales during the same period of time. Until XB1 sales are trending below 360 sales, I seriously doubt MS will consider a price drop.

Why would they? Did Sony and MS drop the price of the PS3 and 360 when the Wii was killing the charts?

Not having a Dance Central game that could bring in the casuals from last-gen was a HUGE mistake by Microsoft.

I mean, give me something for that Kinect. SOMETHING.

I think Microsoft predicted much better sales and demand in their key territories than they're actually getting. On a side note, I honestly think the Xbox One will have a shorter life span, similar to the original Xbox. I know it's very early to say that, but given the pricing, specs, bad start etc, I'd imagine they'll want to get the next box out sooner rather than later.

That's what I'm thinking too. MS did well by short circuiting the OG Xbox and starting early with 360. They might try that again, and if Sony are doing really well they will not want to release a new console. However, MS probably have to stick it out for 3-4 years still.

I think people should rememeber this is still their strongest XB launch EVER. They aren't doing bad, far far from it. The PS4 is just doing more incrediballs.

Strongest ever doesn't mean much when put in context, though. The OG Xbox only sold ~20 million units, and the 360 was severely supply constrained in the first few months after launch. Something would have to be terribly wrong for the XB1's launch to not be their strongest ever.

Mortimer told us this was coming a few weeks ago, btw. For those who like to "keep score" regarding the accuracy of our various leakers and insiders.

What? There's was nothing godawful about Crackdown or Viva Pinata or State of Decay or Mark of the Ninja or Marlow Briggs or Alan Wake

Those games were decent, though everything but Crackdown was also available on PC. They also had Gears and Forza which were pretty quality franchises and only available on the console (other than Gears 1.) I think Halo ODST/Reach/4 were pretty mediocre compared to 1/2/3 though, hopefully they do better this time around.

Aren't both of these?
PS4 definitely is.

One I see with shocking regularity in Kansas.

Anecdotal of course. But given the amount people have been photographing on shelves, One selling around half of PS4 it doesn't paint the prettiest of pictures for this MS endeavor.

Alright. I keep hearing this shit. Is there a chart tracking ps4 to ps2 numbers yet? If this is gonna be spouted i at least wanna see the evidence.

Yeah Morty was saying it too. But I never thought it would be double. That's ridiculous!

I'm rather surprised to be honest. I've never actually seen a PS4 sitting on a shelf in a store before. Yet we've got Xbox Ones just sitting on the shelf at Walmart. So I thought Sony's inability to meet supply would hurt them.

Sony is actually supplying a good number, it's just that demand is just that high. It isn't a case where demand is tepid and Sony is supplying even less.

Consumers know what's up. lol at all the media downplaying of specs, resolution and frame rate like nobody cares what they are paying for.

Maybe, but you can bet this will kill off any chance of Titanfall 2 and beyond being Xbox exclusive. The cost to MS to offset PS4 sales if this trend continues would be insane.

Have we ever seen MS in a position where they have to pull out the stops and actually done it?

I don't see what they have to worry about. If they keep selling at the current rate, they'll be substantially more successful than their previous console. And the 360 was a financial success.

Being #1 is great, but hardly how any given company defines success and failure.

Concentrating on the casuals is why Microsoft is selling half of what Sony is with their gaming focused PS4.

Idk guys, this news doesn't make me happy (hear me out). If the rumors are true and XB1 only sold 150k, that's... not good. I was sort of hoping XB1 sold around 250k, and PS4 had the biggest January ever with 500k, but I guess Sony couldn't move that many PS4's because of supply. Either way, while I like the idea of Sony pulling away, I don't like the idea of MS sales falling off this hard.

I want next-gen install base to keep growing at a ridiculous pace to put these "consoles am doomed" types to rest.
