Wow. Didn't think the gap would be that big.

I doubt EA is regretting anything. They got PAID, man.

Time for a kinectless xb1 and price drop to $349.99

Plus, stop ignoring game requests from GAMERS.

It doesn't matter if doesn't sell like halo. Take the damn risk.

This reads like a fanboy wrote it man,

I choose whatever console provides me with the best exclusives and other features. That is yet to be seen by both.

Microsoft consistently has the most godawful exclusives in the industry apart from halo, and now even that series is mediocre. Considering that it also runs every multiplat worse than the ps4 due to spec differences, there's no reason to buy an an xbone if you arent interested in the multimedia features.

And that is a horible position to be in for MS. You can't make a system that isnt suited for people with gaming as their highest priority and expect those same people to support you at launch.

I feel the same way about infamous. I dunno. I feel like there is no big maknstream game this year. Hope destiny can be it though. Seems really interesting.

inFamous won't sell PS4's, the PS4 is doing that well enough on its own right now. And Destiny is another cross-gen-platform game so I doubt we will see any major bumps from that either.

I was in Costco the other day and I couldn't believe how many XBones they had. They were stacked 7ft high 7' x 7'. Try we're selling for $475. I did not see any PS4's.

Kinda sad really.

Titan Fall almost convinced me to get one, but then I remembered I'd need to pay $60 a year to play it. I'll stick with my PS4 an wait for TF2 ( hopefully )

Holy shit, that's a pretty big disparity. Really doubt TitanFall is going to do anything for it aside from a short spike, MS needs to lower the price before winter if not sooner.

I feel bad for Respawn. EA has pretty much dicked them over.

If it is really 2:1 and it continues like that, EA really have messed up badly, I really want to know how much Microsoft paid to keep Titanfall exclusive to Microsoft consoles and compare that to how much money they would've made if they hadn't of made Titanfall exclusive. (Really gutted its not on PS4.) Would love to see their faces on how much they've lost in revenue.

Hedging your bets on one game is a awful awful awful plan. Nintendo tried the same thing with 3DW While I think TF will do much better then 3DW and will move more xbones then 3DW moved WiiU's its still a awful idea.

No matter what they have said in the past, if the numbers are accurate, they will drop Kinect. I could not see another way to boost sales.
And it would be better for the industry as a whole. At least if you like the AAA industry that creates games because people buy them at high ASP made for consoles as a baseline specs.

Comparatively, Xbox One consoles have sold at a rate of 2.29 times faster than Xbox 360 in the U.S. in the same timeframe for the first three months on the market.
Maybe because the 360 was severely supply-constrained during that period. Wow, MS PR is in spin overdrive right now.

I expect little from infamous or Titanfall.

I expect both to play to the strengths of those already buying more than any expanded market. But Sony obviously has higher levels of interest. Probably because it's cheaper. The more powerful portion of the equation doesn't seem to be hurting either.

Until MS can equalize the price (and I expect Sony to be just as capable of lowering the price as MS) I see the PS4 always having a lead over One.

Thats crazy, especially with how the Xbone is essentially in stock everywhere and so plentiful, while PS4 continues to be hard to find on shelves.

I love this. All these inane numbers yet hardware figures are conspicuously absent.

I'm having a vertigo attack right now. "Speach commands" #truthfact is killing me.

And there's more! :D

During the month of January, Xbox* held five of the top 10 spots on the console game title list in the U.S.: “Battlefield 4,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (Xbox 360 and Xbox One), “Grand Theft Auto V” and “Minecraft.” Gamers love Xbox and our community has never been more vibrant on the industry-leading Xbox Live service. Since launch, over 2.6 billion global Gamerscore has been achieved, 165 million global achievements have been unlocked and 130 million global Game DVR clips have been uploaded.

*Across Xbox One and Xbox 360

My opinion? USED.
I find it especially interesting considering the current games and short term foreseeable game lineups of both consoles. Basically the lineups are a wash and not a clear winner between them, but the hardware is a different story. The PS4 is its own hype train now, so many people want it that the juggernaut just rolls on.

Congrats to Sony. This is honestly what Microsoft gets. They made so many bad management decisions in the last couple of years and it has finally caught up with them. I'm saying this as an Xbox fan that this can be looked at as being a good thing as Microsoft will have no choice but to start getting aggressive again, something they have not been doing for the last few years they were on top imo. But again, congrats to Sony for making all the right decisions this past year.

I hope Ms stays in second place. Thats when they delivered the best games and hardwares. Ms doesn't know to stay in the top.

To offset a PS3 and PS4 release, probably around 200 million give or take. EA would presumably be projecting in the neighborhood of 6 or 7 million at ~$30 return per unit. Come to think of it, they'd also have to account for DLC, so potentially up to 250-300 million.

thanks

Not yet. They will ride this generation through.

It's next generation you should watch to see what happens. IF this trend continues. It's still early yet, so we should all have some perspective on that score. Anything could happen after a price cut and some killer apps... PS3 managed to even out with Xbox 360 by the end of the gen. Of course PS3 actually sold in many territories around the world instead of just a few, but Xbox One could still conceivably carve out a decent niche in North America.

Additionally, 360 stagnated as the generation went on, PS3 only got better.

I hope as much as the next Gaffer that this lights a fire under MS but realistically this is January and double isn't that bad if neither sold that much. Same goes for TR. If they announce TR sold over 500k on PS4 I'd be impressed.

There's not much they can do really. They will NEVER be able to come close to PS4 sales. No matter how much money is taken off the price, the console is still weaker. Therefore, it's up to their exclusives to sell the thing, which have been lacking as we all know.

I'm genuinely curious to see what they choose to do. I tend to believe that this is actually GOOD news for Xbox fans/owners since MS will be looking to strike back and offer better value.

Interesting times ahead.

So why have MS launched only in 13 countries and stuffed the US full of boxes people don't want, while Sony have launched in 35+ countries and are still outselling them? Both seem to have similar production capacity based on launch. Are Sony just better at retail channel management - not something MS have a huge amount of experience in other than PC accessories and Xbox?

Headline: "Xbox One Leads US Game Sales in January"

PR text:

Am I missing something?

You're missing only the lengths at which MS is willing to go to spin. They know some game media websites will just read the headline and make conclusions. The guy who tweeted to us that PS4 beat Xbox One sales for January also said Xbox One sold the most software in January. He made that conclusion off the press release. Mission success, no?

I'm not good at predicting sales so this may be a stupid question to ask, but why would Titanfall give a boost for its month? Wouldn't the people who wanted Titanfall already have the Xbox One by now? Would people really hold off buying the system in Dec and Jan just to buy it in February? I can understand holding off for nearly a year, but a few weeks just for one game? And, wouldn't these people who haven't bought a system already be compelled to buy the 360 version since they assumedly already own that system?

I guess, is there any historical precedent for a Titanfall bump? Has there ever been a scenario where a system launches, a big semi-exclusive game comes out 3-4 months later, and there's a surge of console sales?

Honestly, MUCH bigger gap than I expected.

I was thinking Titanfall was going to outsell InFamous easily but now I am not so sure.

Engage MS panic mode.

What? There's was nothing godawful about Crackdown or Viva Pinata or State of Deacy or Mark of the Ninja or Marlow Briggs or Alan Wake...

Come on dude...

The hail mary , completely infeasible not going to happen plan would be releasing the Xbone with a smaller harddrive, no kinect, for $299. Bite the bullet hard, take a loss, and move hardware fast.

Who does MS think they are tricking with this PR? Basically NeoGAF deciphers the NPD results and dishes out the message for the rest of the industry anyway

I think Microsoft predicted much better sales and demand in their key territories than they're actually getting. On a side note, I honestly think the Xbox One will have a shorter life span, similar to the original Xbox. I know it's very early to say that, but given the pricing, specs, bad start etc, I'd imagine they'll want to get the next box out sooner rather than later.
