If the release in the beta hasn't given the expected uptick in pre-orders, then it makes sense for it to be opened up to everyone.

I don't think that's it. Pretty sure EA botched the code delivery. I got two codes one yesterday and one today. Opening it up is just a real server test. Better to know now then on March 11th and deal with costumer outrage that they can't even play considering this is a MP only game. At least on BF4 you could screw around in SP

How did he or anyone even get that many? I'm guessing a streamer who got extra keys to get viewers and promote the game at same time?
Demand seems to be huge indeed. Will be very interesting to see how many new Xbones it can sell in March.

I'm still very curious why they haven't said anything about the map count, game modes and the like. I have a bad feeling about it somehow.

Eh with the way sales went in January, I'm not surprised. They'll probably take a look at how Titanfall is doing socially and with preorders in the next week and decide if they're going to do it or not.

Maybe they didn't get as many inquiries for the Xbox One Beta as they did they PC Beta? I don't know.

I agree, but perhaps they wanted a more controlled beta. I just think that once they say codes going on ebay for $50 and under and the feedback/demand, they probably just said fuck it and opened it up to everyone.
At least one thing is for sure, they sure as hell will be able to really test the servers and the beta build of the game.
