Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

I'm ok with that. It actually makes playing fun even when getting demolished. I think it will help keep people from quitting out of games too because they won't feel like they're getting shit on when losing.

I guess, but there should be an option to play without them too.

It's slightly less good pilot vs pilot.
It's slightly better at speeding up Titanfall.
It has shitty range.

It's fine dude.
This is it really, with any gun the bots are easy, its just the smart pistol is good at a particular range on them with mobility.

With a sniper rifle you can destroy a whole bot squad in seconds from across the map, with a shot gun you can wipe them all out in seconds with 1 tor 3 shots at close range (depends on how they're clustered together) and with a carbine/SMG you can take them all out in seconds while standing still at mid to close range without taking a hit.

With any gun a squad of bots can be wiped out in seconds, and every gun has a use in various pilot vs pilot matchups due to how each can be used.

How are people liking Last Titan Standing? I queue for the Beta Variety Pack so I get a bunch of modes but I really like Last Titan Standing. It feels awesome and my titan movement got a lot better after a few rounds playing that, translating well into the other modes. I still have trouble scouting out pilots that are locked on to me even though I'm staring straight in their direction, but I guess that's just a practice thing.

I agree.

BUT

Anyone else who has played the PC and the Xbox version noticed that the rocket launcher is stronger in the Xbox version? Maybe it's just, but I seem to take a huge chunk out of Titans on XB, but on PC it was to the point I didn't even bother trying to take them out because it would barely hurt them. I know the shield takes some of the brunt. I will test this more later.

I don't know about the Xbox version but on PC the rocket launcher takes, well, I stopped counting at 4 or 5 shots. I don't even bother unless the titan is engaged with another one. It might as well launch ostrich feathers at them.

From the other thread:

Yeah I already knew about that. The problem is that I cannot log into my origin account through ea Help to finish the submission because the website is broken. Login screen returns a white screen with no form to fill out :(

Edit: Turns out i dont need to. Found an email buried even deeper with the PC code :)

yeah, that's the point. they're fodder that, at worst, will slow you down if there are too many around and you're forced to deal with them. I wouldn't recommend executing them in most cases. since the neck snap animation will leave you exposed for longer than you need to be.

I have seen people die to Spectres, though

Slow you down? How so? You can run right up to them, tell them a story about your day, then just kick them all to death before they wake up. They're worthless. I'd prefer to just have skilled players duke it out. Reward the good players with Titans. The fodder excuse just sounds like you're trying to hard to not be critical.

As someone who is tired of what CoD has become but still enjoys BF4, I can say I'm not all that impressed. I'll still buy it to play with friends but I highly doubt this is going to be the "next big thing" for me.

And I do not like the AI bots. Killing them gives no satisfaction and they end up feeling like clutter without actually making the battlefield feel alive. I've already started ignoring them unless I just trip over one and can melee it. Even with the boost to your Titan cooldown, they simply aren't fun to interact with.

I'm extremely interested in hearing your opinion. Other than the gunplay, which is only one aspect of Call of Duty and Titanfall, what other similarities do they share that make it so COD "through and through". I really feel like people who are saying this are playing the game like COD and then complaining about it.

For me, it's mostly the weapons is what feels CoD'esque. And to say that gunplay "is only one aspect" of the games, well, that is the core of gameplay. So, yeah, it makes sense to compare them. CoD has always felt very stale in regard to weapon, and weapon feedback, Titanfall feels the same to me. From FPS weapon view and animation, to recoil and aiming, it feels like CoD. There's no personality. It's just how it feels to me. This is an impressions thread, right? Those are my impressions, and I don't think they are off-base in the slightest, as others seem to agree.

I do feel as if I came off a bit defensive in my response about the "CoD with mechs" reply, and apologize. I'm not trying to piss on anyone that is enjoying the beta, but it's just not for me. So, I'll just leave it at that.

Such a good round of Attrition. I felt like a badass in my Titan

Been playing it for 3 hours. I've played a ton of Call of Duty and this feels nothing like it.

It feels exactly like CoD. This game is still an FPS at it's core and the core is 100% CoD. When I hold down the left trigger and pull the right trigger there is no distinguishable difference. Same lack of recoil and weight.

On PC i am having some framerate issues i think. Anyone can help?

Turn off vsync in game. It causes what appears to be frame stutter/slow down even though fraps will show 60fps.

Turn on vsync in nvidea control panel (or whatever it is for that other brand) and the game runs much more smoothly.

Just got my key.

Except it's for xbone and not pc, so I have to do the "up to 2 hour wait" conversion.

Which is cool, except Origin is hammered, so I can't log in to submit my key. -_-

No your completely right, and you deserve props for apologizing over your previous comment, though it really wasn't that defensive compared to other posts I've read. I just wanted to hear your impressions on what brought you to your opinion.

Personally, as someone whose played both, I disagree to the extent of it being like call of duty outside of the gunplay. This game has heavy emphasis on parkour, Mechs (Titans), a.i. bots (for better or worse depending on your perspective). I think when you add all these up, you get a game that ultimately plays very differently to COD. Virtually no camping in what I played so far (this is due to the parkour), no overabundance of perks, no countless killstreaks that pound the enemy team. We'll see if this remains the case when the full game releases, but I'm liking the direction the game is going for now.

I had the same problem but found the PC key email buried in my gmail. so have a dig, you might get lucky.

I've been playing since yesterday and I'm already pretty burnt out of this game. I don't think I'm going to buy it now. Maybe later when it get cheaper. But right now. It just feel like another FPS with mech and parkour.

I think I'm going to play my vita now. Persona 4 Golden is waiting for me.

Almost 8 hours later, still can't even play the tutorial due to server issues. This is just pathetic. :/

server issues? since yesterday it's been smoothing sailing..

the parkour is so fucking smooth it's ridiculous. these are our next mirrors edge gods.

The smart pistol also makes for a strong spotting tool. If an enemy is somewhat obscured by debris or they have elevation and you can't see them immediately, the smart pistol gives you an instant indication of where they are even if you don't get a full lock-on on them.

Upgrading it with the enhanced targeting mod gives it less spotting utility but then greatly increases its lock-on speed and range.

I still generally prefer to stick with the SMG myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if the smart pistol is toned down a bit before release.

Definitely not smooth sailing for me. Attempting to even play the tutorial or online has forced my PC to hard lock for 10+ minutes during the loading screen before I could finally forcibly close it. Server time out/disconnect errors are common.

Last Titan Standing is great until you realize how OP electric smoke is in that game mode. Have a team split up and flank from both sides to meet the enemy team in the middle, and pop electric smoke while spamming melee and throwing everything including the kitchen sink at them.

Equip nuclear ejection for the added lulz.

Seems to run OK on my i5 2500k/560Ti with V-sync unchecked, though it slows down some for when in a Titan. Maybe I"ll try at 900p rather than 1080p, still puts me ahead of XB1 at least.

I dunno what I did to fix it but I had that error many, many times before it finally decided to work. :/

So I got the burn card that allowed me to call in a Stryder Titan. Holy crap, that thing is amazing. Zipping around the map in a titan is so much fun. I had a feeling I was going to like the Stryder more than the Atlas, and this confirmed it.
Also, having a base of 3 dashes helps a lot for quick harassing attacks.
I can't wait to see in the final game when all three types of Titans are running around on the same field.

Runs fine on my PC, which is no surprise, GTX 770 and all. The game is exciting, and super kinetic, but I think it might have been too much for me. I don't like any of the guns, and the wall running is fun to do but I didn't see good places to do it in the map, but I'm assuming I'm just not familiar enough with the maps to make it work well.

I might buy it if it wasn't coming out on the same day as Dark Souls II, but by the time I get to playing Titanfall everybody will be incredibly good, and it won't be fun to play anymore.

I fiddled around and couldn't get a locked 120 no matter what I turned down. With a mix of high/medium I was able to get 120 probably 70% of the time but it would drop down to the 80s/90s every so often. And it wasn't just during intense battles it would just sorta happen.

I have yet to just crank everything on low and see what happens but I felt like I should have been able to run it perfectly at those settings. It is just a beta though.

What I ended up doing was turning off my backlight strobe and setting the refresh to 60 and then cranked everything as high as it would go. Its blurry but its steady. Kinda wish I had actual gone through with the gsync mod now.
I turned a bunch of stuff down so I can get that sweet, sweet 120fps :p

I've managed to get it so it's pretty steady 120 at all times, with a 680/i5 2500k.

Settings:

1920x1080, FOV 90
MSAA - 0x
Texture Res - Medium
Lighting - High
Shadows - Disabled
Effects Detail - Low
Model Detail - Medium
Impact Marks - Low
Ragdoll - High

I could probably turn a couple things up a bit and still maintain 120 (something like Impact Marks is likely to be trivial as far as FPS, though it's also worthless), but eh. I first played the game at 60fps with everything turned up and didn't think it was some particularly amazing-looking thing, and with multiplayer shooters, FPS > *.

Coming from a Quake background, I wouldn't particularly have any qualms with turning everything to its lowest so long as it doesn't affect visibility.

The bots are insanely stupid, it's easy to take them 1v5 and come out on top. It's not satisfying in any way to engage them yet it's a core element of the game.

It is not satisfying in any way to eat the dots in Pac-Man yet it's a core element of the game.
