Microsoft really want Titanfall to work don't they.

Giving away it's most anticipated game for free and a price drop. Madness.

They want/need Titanfall to be their next Halo for the Xbox One. If they can create enough buzz and get as many people on board as possible, the money they put down for the games exclusivity can be chalked up as marketing for the machine.

If it is as successful as they think it's going to be, I'd say there's a high possibility that MS will try and keep exclusivity of the franchise to their console. As right now, it seems to be one of the only things that is universally going for them right now.

Don't forget you also have to buy Live so that,s 550, plus tax it's 600+ bucks it'll help but it's not going to do much. I'd rather save $580 bucks and buy the game when it hits $20

They need an actual price cut

I think they do too, but I can see why MS is trying the bundle first. I think the price cut will come when Titanfall sales slow down. They would piss off investors by going immediately to a price cut right during the release of their biggest game of the launch window. E3 is a good time, though I don't know if announcing it during the press conference is the best idea.

Ms isn't messing around. So aggressive this gen. Tho they had tons of room to improve.

If they price drop this fast in us I expect something. Doubt it will go past UK tho

EA must be pretty happy with these XB1 bundles. They basically get a cut of every XB1 sold in the EU at this rate. Its imposable to find one not bundled with Fifa or BF4 already.

Also the XB1 always seemed like a bad buy for early adopters. A major price drop / value change was coming soon and all the signs are there. This is just the first move among many by MS before E3 in that direction I am sure.

Anyone expecting Sony to make a move as drastic as a price drop is delusional. They won't do that unless the situation became very dire. PS4 is still selling well and will continue to sell well.

If anything you'll see Sony just start aggressively advertising. Also at least in the US this isn't a price drop. It's more like a sale for a limited time.

fingers crossed

i'm sure Sony have got responses lined up for a lot of things MS will do while they flail about over the next six to nine months, and i am perched for it

Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the price of the Infamous bundle to £370/£375. They don't really need to do much, they have all the momentum and any price cut (as small as it may be) will be enough to cancel this deal out and see attention swing back in their direction.

Nope. Never gonna buy another xbox console after the last fiasco.

Fiasco?

That 'the only place you can play all 3 games is on Xbox One' statement is deliberately ambiguous and misleading. Even disingenuous. When will they learn?

it's just a prime example of why people should sit on their hands for a little while to see how sales pan out and if panic discounts such as this one may happen.

four months in and they're pushing the xbo under the £400 threshold and giving away the killer app for free.

it's more than just £30 in exchange for getting in a few months earlier. those four months i might add have been a graveyard of swapping between no games and inferior ports.

You made absolutely no sense.

Oh yea, I wasn't complaining about people being uninformed, I'm sure retailers will tell people at checkout to avoid having people coming back the next day complaining. It was mostly a tip of the hat to MS for being able to give away a free game and still make bank. It may push Gold subs up a little bit offsetting the cost of giving it away free to an extent.
It really is quite genious if you think about it. You are almost guaranteed a Gold attach to each and every one of those consoles you sell which makes up for the "free" game

MS trying to win the UK crowd back from Sony

Something that will happen in the next months, InFamous won't do much I think.

InFamous I guess? Not that it's a very strong one.

Hahahaha

no.

They'll be needing a much larger price cut to make a comeback.

Recent years would suggest that isn't all MS cares about.

If there was one thing that Ballmer was obsessed about in recent years, it was Google and Apple. Losing mobile and search to them pissed the hell out of him that he was willing to burn as much money as was needed to be there with them.

The same hunger and madness was missing with the Xbox One. I'm not saying MS will abandon it, but it's no longer the same as the first Xbox and 360, where MS was willing to lose a ton of money per console to break the Sony dominion and the Wii lightning-in-the-bottle.

Except, revenue is not profit.

MS saw $8 billion in profit last year ... $.4 of that came from the Xbox division ... Down 46%. So, no, it's not a huge part of the company. The expectation is that Xbox will continue to return profits, but not at insane levels.

MS made something like $2X b profit last year, no idea what xbox made as it's been lumped in with all other hardware devices they sell.

lol at @prine for saying early adopters shouldn't complain about this. You care about MS more than you care about yourself and consumers.

Wont happen. EA doesnt own Respawn or the IP, and I doubt they want their game to be limited to one fan base for the entirety of its life. Titanfall 2 will no doubt be on PS4 as well.

EA has been Microsoft's lifeline in the UK it seems. Obviously this is a lot better but I still think that's too expensive. Why not ditch Kinect and get it down?

Damn did early adopters get screwed tho lol. You can call these moves either aggressive or desperate but at least they're trying. I think Sony is really in a great position right now tho.

I doubt it, price here was high anyway, UK XB1's were probably making the most profit vs anywhere else in the world. (can say same for PS4 too)

I highly doubt that since transport,VAT and retail take a decent chunk out of the price. It´s not only manufacturing that is calculated into the price. That goes for all kind of merchandise.

chubigans

y'all should be ashamed
How much is the price cut decision driven by Xbox One's current sales performance in the UK?

It's not driven necessarily by our sales performance. In fact, we're very happy with our sales performance. Xbox One has been the most successful Xbox launch we've ever done. I think we've seen both consoles be very successful in the UK commercially. I think that's great for the industry.

But this is an announcement that's linked to giving the best possible value we can to our fans. The reason we're doing this now is because Titanfall is coming and it seems like the right moment in time to offer an improved price point with the inclusion of the hottest game.

hehehehe

Sure.

That's a bloody good point. I'd completely forgotten about the 360

This post pleases Microsoft, Now spend £399 on XB1 and titanfall, you can't just buy it on 360 for £40...no sir, that's not possible. (it actually isn't for a week :-( )

So you don't know at all then ......... $10b is what Xbox made you said, so half of MS revenues according to you.

Read the link. You're confusing revenue with profit.

You read the link, they're talking about Q4 alone, not the entire year.

Xbox alone made $10b in revenue, when 2013?

Most years? Have you even bothered to do the calculations or research?

So you don't know at all then ......... $10b is what Xbox made you said, so half of MS revenues according to you.

Wow at you people that can't read. They made $20 something bill PROFIT last year, not Revenue. Revenue is like $70B something a year. Xbox made $10b revenue and probably $1b or less profit.

This wont do much, $500 is still too much money for people, doesn't matter it comes with a game or even two games, have to get xbl on top of that.

Retail pressured the cut I bet. They probably couldn't have moved the current stock for months.

Still needs far bigger cut.
