Xbox One Titanfall Special Edition Bundle announced. $499 at select retailers

Bad example because Apple never cuts prices on anything. They shuffle SKUs around when new hardware is introduced, which is not the same thing..

Except when they did:

Price drop outcry[edit]

On September 5, 2007, the 4GB model was discontinued, and the 8GB model price was cut by a third.[61] Those who had purchased an iPhone in the 14-day period before the September 5, 2007 announcement were eligible for a US $200 "price protection" rebate from Apple or AT&T. However, it was widely reported that some who bought between the June 29, 2007 launch and the August 22, 2007 price protection kick-in date complained that this was a larger-than-normal price drop for such a relatively short period and accused Apple of unfair pricing.[62][63]

In response to customer complaints, on September 6, 2007, Apple CEO Steve Jobs wrote in an open letter to iPhone customers that everyone who purchased an iPhone at the higher price "and who is not receiving a rebate or other consideration", would receive a US$100 credit to be redeemed towards the purchase of any product sold in Apple's retail or online stores.[64]

Whoa ... I think you've just done more to sell me on an Xbox One than any advertising so far. I'm honestly tempted.

Why would anyone buy a kinect 2.0 though? They only work with xbone and every xbone comes with one. Is MS buying them back on ebay or something?

I don't understand the anger over the pack-in. Do Xbone fans not want their console of choice to be more successful than being outsold 2:1?

Pretty sure the average console zealot still values his own money as to Microsoft's bottom line.

Remove Kinect with this bundle and drop the price to $399 and I'm in. Otherwise, no.

Why not keep kinect and drop it to $399? So odd to me that people want less stuff for their money, and to ruin it for other people. I love the new kinect, I hope they never remove it.

It's to present a logical request since the Kinect costs money to put into the X-box. Removing it would presumably allow the $399.

I always thought those that had gotten a "Day One" edition of the console should get deals on digital downloads, like 10% off all future purchases.

Kinda sucks that Titanfall beta was the first time I used my Xbox One since December, and now they're offering it free to new purchases. Wonderful job, MS.

This mentality gets funnier every time, it really does.
Technology is a river, always flowing, sometimes you need to leap.
My 60" 1080 weighs less and cost much less than my 42" 720p tv.

Same goes for PS4, watching people who knew the price and games available - and even decent lists of whats coming - who decided to jump in then bitch ... Really? Are you people unfamiliar with console launches and how long it takes to make a good game?

Except this kind of price cut or bundling never happens this soon so no one expected it. We jumped in expecting 12 months of more or less value stability.

I wonder if costco will have this bundle? Costco return / price policy is uber. If it drops in price then boom get the difference.

No. I want what is best for me. Because as a consumer, that's who I care about.

If I knew in December that there would be a titanfall pack in I would not have bought the xb1 until that came out. But my thinking was "there is no way that they would give away what is going to be one of the biggest sellers of the year on the platform" and "It's way too early, they wouldn't do that to early adopters, that would be really shitty."

Guess what, I was wrong. And I think it's shitty. And whether I'm a giant whiny baby or completely justified it doesn't really matter. What matters is that MS now has a pissed off customer who buys a lot of stuff. They better hope they sell more consoles than the amount of pissed off customers they create.

Maybe. But it does almost seem there are a lot of people on Gaf that are straight out offended by the very existence of Kinect. It's like holy water to a vampire. I think there are people that won't buy an xbox one at any price until it doesn't include a Kinect.

I am pretty certain we'll see bluray drive and hdmi in go away for cost cutting before we'll see a Kinect-less SKU.

Even then, in the unlikely scenario Microsoft ends up feeling really desperate they are more likely to keep dropping the price and eating the $ for a good while before ever getting rid of Kinect. Kinect is too integral to the identity of the Xbox one. Without those features it's just a 360 with better graphics and most consumers outside of NeoGaf don't care about that.

I don't think this moves a lot of consoles. The people thatwere going to buy one for the game still wwill. I don't see this getting people to buy one who otherwise wouldn't have. I have a feeling the system will be at $399 before e3.

Very interesting. I already bought One with the Target gift card deal. If I pre-order this on Amazon I could save on taxes and save about $30.00. Would amazon ship it on the 11th?

I thought it was obvious that there will be a Titanfall bundle. It makes sense. If someone bought an xbox one in advance for it that is kind of their fault. If they bought it for games like KI or other launch titles then that makes sense. It is fine and expected to not be happy for early adopters but they should know what it means to adopt early.

I'd love to see usage numbers for the HDMI in on the Xbox One.

I would bet it's close to Windows Media Center usage of ~6%.

Totally agree with this. I usually only get annoyed by things that affect me.

Are you bothered that Sony is packing in a free game for the Japanese launch?

Typical New Xbox move. They find new ways everyday to shit on the fans that made Xbox what it is today. Sold us out for kinect, then tv, then DRM, gave us a weaker console now this black eye to early adopters. MS lost my trust already but I would be furious if I bought one at launch. They'll do anything to gain new sales including screwing the people over they have already sold to

Would be interesting to see those numbers. For me I hope that MS doesn't remove the HDMI-in port in later models. I use the port a lot, as it saves me a precious HDMI port on my TV.

Jup a typical "xbox" move to release a bundle of their console >.>

I wonder if MS got the NPD numbers for the first weeks of February? They are in such a desperation mode right now with the pricedrop in the UK, and giving away their biggest exclusive this year for free on the US and the UK...

Titanfall bundle? you're probably right.

Titanfall bundle with free Titanfall? that wasn't really obvious before Jan NPD. Heck, some people even thought xbone it still doing great after Jan NPD.

I agree that it will be $399 before E3. Although this bundle should move systems,MS marketing will be strong in the coming weeks and that will help shift systems.

Better desperate and making a move than stupid and sticking to your guns.

Its a gift and a curse. Its better value for those that havent got the console yet. I doubt early adopters will be that pissed since they know things like this should be expected. If anything MS is getting better and reacting quick,of course i will be keeping an eye on them throughout the year to see if that continues.

Seriously, it's a free game with a new system. That's it. As an early adopter (of both systems) I could not care less that MS and Sony are now packing games to help move systems. I just don't understand the outrage...

What's best for you is not owning the next WiiU type failure. I'm sorry you feel like Microsoft owes you $60, but that seems like very short sighted behavior. If you bought a $500 console that's being perceived as a failure, what you should want is for whoever manufactures that console be as reflexive and competitively aggressive as possible.
it's not the consumers responsibility to worry about such things.
They shouldn't be willfully ignorant about such things either. What, should Microsoft be beholden to consumers and hold themselves back from trying to rebound their console? Would it be in their best interest that Microsoft keeps the Xbone as the same high value and suffer losing even more market share, and the consequence that may follow?

I'm sure this is a temporary bundle, but I'd be shocked if Kinect Sports Rivals doesn't become a pack-in upon release to replace it.

Yea maybe not free Titanfall but some sort of bundle is what i expected.

I wouldn't say it was obvious for Titanfall. But pack-ins or "free" games when you are lagging in sales are hardly a new practice for the industry.

My question is how they plan to move the standard console now. Who would buy it over pre-ordering the bundle with Titanfall?

I put it in my cart to see what the shipping time would be and as a Prime member they assure me it will arrive on launch day.

Walmart is still doing the free game offer so maybe they will just extend that to physical copies of Titanfall for those who don't want the Titanfall bundle with the digital code.

Maybe that is why most stores have those $20 off ,etc.

While I definitely think people in the US who bough the console at launch are entitled to have sour grapes I'd be more pissed off if I lived in the UK.

The system essentially got a price cut and the game packed in for free. Is the price cut temporary?

This this this.

Those of us who were familiar with the E3 debacle and the subsequent 180s and still swallowed our pride to buy an XBOne at launch figured that it would have some exclusives we want to play and a price drop wasn't coming for a year at the very least, if not 2 years. Many of us looked forward to Titanfall as the first big game on the console that we'd get into. If they hadn't shat on us enough and insulted us before, they sure as hell have now.

If this was a genuine bundle, why not announce it sooner? Cause they knew many consumers would wait to buy the console. What bundle of a console is announced 2-3 weeks before release? Any other console bundle, like for example the GTA 5 bundles last year were announced months before release.
