Exactly, one person left Naughty Dog. That doesn't bring the house falling down. A project that wasn't coming along like it should and was never even in a state to be shown to the public was cancelled at SSM. Yep, down with PS4.

Why do I feel like these things happen all the time, but when it comes to a first party studio, it's serious business?

If everyone lands on their feet like they should, then we should all still be in for a treat from all parties. Instead of blowing this out of proportion, look forward to her project wherever she inevitably lands. Change isn't always for the worst, not changing isn't always the best.

This type of thing happens more than you think. People are talented and will be alright though.

What game announcements? There haven't been any major game announcements lately.

A few small indie titles got revealed, but nothing really substantial.

Sorry, I meant to mention that indies don't count as games /sarcasm

Or would you like to discredit some of the new announced games and upcoming stuff in the next couple of months alone?

I believe when these things normally happens they use the term "Creative Differences";

See. Guillermo Del Toro

"The last ghost I heard was when I was scouting for The Hobbit in New Zealand,” he says. (Del Toro worked on the film for two years before “creative differences” with the producer Peter Jackson forced him to leave the project)"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...laughterhouse-Five-with-Charlie-Kaufman-.html

It's a 250+ person studio with two teams and as far as we know, Brice and Neil don't have anything to do with UC4.

They shouldn't be having "creative differences" in this instance.

y'all should be ashamed
It's difficult to blame U3s failures to Amy. I remember watching a vid how U3 was made and they said they designed (those shitty ass levels) first and Amy have to write a story around it. So that was a WTF uh oh moment for me when u learned that. I watched this vid before u3 was released. So that point on I was a bit worried about u3s quality.

Wow really? Man everything about that game was...man. Gah.

In any case this is yet another piece of horrible news for Sony.

I've gotta say man, between this and news of the cancellation of Stig Asmussen's game at Sony Santa Monica, this has been a terrible couple of weeks for PS4 related announcements. '

Sheeeeesh! Sony needs some positive news ASAP!

Talk about over reaching.

Thing is, games get cancelled all the time and the world keeps turning ........ and for all the cancellations at the start of the PS3 and all the faux drama and concern we ended up with Uncharted and TLOU and so on.

The penchant some have for drama in this forum is quite astonishing.

I don't see why Bruce and Neil would try to force Amy to leave.
There are two teams in NDI now, can Bruce and Neil lead two teams to create two different titles?

she was probably interested in forcing some changes, and her resilience was wearing on the team so they let her go.

Seeing as Neil just got done writing Last of Us, perhaps he was going to be "teaming up" again like on Uncharted 2...

I won't discredit Amy and her accomplishments. However Uncharted 3's story was pretty bad. (I know she had to write around the levels etc. ; but still, it was weakest when she was solo)

Well at least we have Sony using SquareEnix's "please be excited for announcements in a few months of games that are going to come next year" slogan. So that's gotta make for it!

Agree 100%.

Also it's worth mentioning, it's not uncommon for a writer to leave a project mid development. It happens often, doesn't seem to have a big effect. Might see some ideas moved around but shouldn't affect the game significantly. If its releasing this year the writing wold have been done for awhile

Aww, was she the one in charge of writing the witty dialogue? That is one of my favorite parts of Uncharted, particularly Sully's and Nate's.

Hope she keeps doing what she's good at.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Henning is amazing. What a shame. I do wonder if she would be able to get into Square-Enix to continue a certain amazing vampire series she once worked on....

Can we wait until we get some more info before going crazy? I would like a better source than IGN.

Dude, I am not predicting doom and gloom!

The PS4 is obviously doing very well and will continue to do so.

I was merely commenting that it hasn't been good for us Sony fans these last few weeks and some positive news would be welcome for a change. Sorry, just venting is all.

Sony are probably pretty chuffed with the announcement of their sale figures the other day.

Pieces of news like this and Stig's cancellation suck, but they're not the be all and end all of Sony WWS. Ultimately, while some talent has been lost, Sony's studios seem to both breed and attract a great deal more. I just hope those who have been let go find placements in new studios (if they want) quickly.

I guess I can agree with that. The characters are charming (minus the villains) but she has no idea how to do drama. I'm tempted to attribute the charm to everyone else but her. Alas she was the creative director so I have to give her some credit.

She wrote Drake and Sully's banter and that's the most important part of the first two games, so she at least deserves credit for nailing the adventure serial feel. Less kudos-worthy:

-Lazarovich. Laserovik? Who fucking knows or cares.
-Helen Mirren and her swoopy hair and ominious accent.
-The Jason Statham looking guy.
-Nazi zombies
-Blue dudes
-That one post-coitus conversation in U2
-Surfbort McBuffshirt from U2

Basically anything that involves adversaries or threats to Drake and Sully are sub par, but I at least find their relationship entertaining enough to carry (most) of the first two games.

All Bruce and he have talked about is working on a possible TLoU sequel or a new IP that they've been kicking around. They haven't said anything about even being interested in making another Uncharted. It seems like Uncharted 2 was more or less a stepping stone for them to get into a position to make the games they want.

Wasn't surprised U3 was a step below U2 when it came out.
So who makes those sorts of decisions if not the director? She had full creative control, and let technological show pieces get in the way of a solid vision for the story

I wasn't big on UC3, but UC2 was amazing. I think Hennig can pretty much write her own ticket, there are any number of places that would likely give her a team. That said, I wouldn't put too much stock in the "forced out" part. It could be true but it's all conjecture unless someone reputable actually talks about it. Even then, I'm not sure that part even matters. She left, the circumstances behind it are irrelevant to me. I'll still buy an ND game provided it looks like a fun game. There isn't an office in the world free of drama, why should a developer be held to a different standard?

Hopefully she'll land on her feet and make a game with the same inspiration and excitement that she is capable of.

Along with Neil right? It's like we have experimental groups to find out who's the better writer.

UC2: Amy and Neil
UC3: Amy only
TLoU: Neil only

So the only constant presence in the two of the best games in the last generation is Neil.

Can people stop acting disappointed?

Has no PEINS
This is really disheartening... I know it's just one person out of a whole team but she was often put front and center when it came to the Uncharted games so it's hard not to make that same connection now

And the way Greg phrased it as "forced out" makes it sound like a wild ego trip from the TLoU dudes, which is so surprising given literally everything we have been shown of them. Would really like for someone to provide some more information, this is just so weird and unexpected

Yeah, they should all be tied to their desks and not allowed to leave. Who do these people think they are leaving a company?

You don't understand my meaning. If Sony allowed a culture that was alienating to Hennig to develop at Naughty Dog than that is on Sony. Sony ultimately pays the bills for Naughty Dog and it has been assumed that Naughty Dog is allowed to operate pretty freely. The article suggests that Henning didn't want to leave but was having such a horrible time that she did. Losing someone like her is a big blow to Sony's portfolio and if it was due to petty office bullshit than Sony is at fault for letting Naughty Dog run that way without trying to stop it.

just reacting to the first post here

i don't think uncharted had really amazing characters or a well-told story, but at least it was trying to have a little fun. druckmann can turn in a good dramatic piece, but his attitude reminds me of rubin.

Would like to know why she left.

Also, couldn't Sony just ask her to join another first party studio, or is something like that out of their hands since he has left ND?

man, leaving after ~10 years...thats a long time. She will be missed.

I forget nothing, nor did I mention sales in my other posts ..... so get it right.

The difference between UC3 and UC2 was the absence of Neil and Bruce, and the quality of their work on TLOU is apparent .............. that's the point.

Also I was pointing out the critical reception by gamers and the press, and UC3 was considered an inferior game to UC2 and TLOU is the best thing ND has done yet.

What I am really getting at is, although Amy maybe gone ............ quality still remains at ND ..... so a loss it maybe, but not that bad.

Plus Amy will still be making games, so she can continue to shine ....... plus it could be the best thing to happen to her to start something fresh and new.
We need to acknowledge a few key points about UC3 criticism that has been bothering me ever since I became aware of GAF.
First, NeoGaf is not the Internet overall, so I don't tend to feel that if its echoed here, its echoed everywhere.

Second, yes, there is a difference in the metacritic score between the two, although no one ever seems to bring up the fact that UC3's metacritic is based on fewer scores.

Third, Druckmann gets a lot of praise, yet he was one of two in a lead designer role. So please, do not treat him like Uncharted 2's shinning Messiah.

The truth is Uncharted 3 was still great. We can bitch all day about bullet proof vests and "broken aiming" but Uncharted would not be what it was/is without Hennig.

If true, I dont understand how Druckmann would have so much sway he would even feel he had the position "pushout" another developer. Uncharted isn't his project, it was Hennig's. Hell, Wells and Balestra even told me Uncharted 3 was their favorite at E3 when I ran into them. I just dont get it.

Sony, ship it as soon as you can. I dont want anyother influence coming near it.

As I understand it, they did this for Uncharted 2 as well. It's why the writing was never very good. The dialog was fantastic, but the actual, like, characters and plot and stuff was always pretty messy.

All of those aspects worked well. That franchise is made for Hollywood not to be taken too seriously storytelling and it worked very well that way.

I meant game related news.

PS4 itself is doing outstanding obviously.

There was never any doubt in the hardware's performance thus far.

Actually now I think, "forcing" Amy Hennig out a day after PS4 sells 6 million is all part of Shu's plan...

To me it still doesn't add up. If Uncharted is really slated for this year I seriously doubt he would have the ability to change much about the story or set pieces and such. Unless of course there was a big kerfuffle over how the game ends, but even then I think he would know his place and ultimately let Amy who has been involved with the series from the start make the decision.

It's why I hate that IGN quote so much. Unless they are going to provide actual details the "forced out" part does more harm than good. Now all of sudden the beloved Neil and Bruce are painted as a couple of douches, when in actuality we know nothing about what happened.

Like I said before, Amy's writing on the game is probably mostly done and Sony confirmed that the release timeline for Uncharted 4 is unaffected. This is most likely a disagreement about what her next project would be.

What the hell?!? How could Naughty Dog drop talent like that? All these layoffs and bad press Sony is getting recently are heartbreaking. What the hell is going on over there? Something is clearly rotten in the station of play. :`(
