This game is a dream come true... I thought Guilty Gear was dead. Not only is it not dead, but it's back and looks friggin' incredible...
 
i think most characters (maybe all?) can combo their IK when opponent's in hellfire mode

the criteria for super freeze IK are: on the last round, enemy has blinking health (like 20%ish), you have more than 50% tension (for the RC)



actually, it only costs 50% for the 1st RC, and the few tensions wasted during the super freeze, so if you have around 55% tension it's definitely enough
yeah you used the all your tension, but for a 100% win it's definitely worth it because you only need 55%ish tension for the win

I believe that in order to get the super freeze upon entering the IK mode, you need 50% tension available at the time of activation. You can see in all 3 cases he started with 100% leaving him with 50% after cancelling the command grab allowing him to get the freeze which let him land the IK.

I'm sure there are ways to combo into it without roman cancel as the super freeze allows you to follow up with other attacks if needed to setup for the actual IK later in the combo. I think doing it with 100% tension however gives you more leeway for setting up a quick finish since you can cancel anything.

What was Slayer's IK?

He punches you into space. Then says something having to do with dandyism.

How about Street Fighter Alpha 4 with similar gfx, capcom?

What's that? Not going to happen? Oh well a man can dream.

I'm convinced that no celshaded game looks as good as this does to me. The transition to 3d has lost absolutely nothing from it's 2D origins. It surpasses it to the point where it makes me feel ok if there are no more sprite based fighters anymore.

I really want to know, how long will it take for everyone to have minimal lag when playing against people from Japan etc?

10 years ago, playing anything vs the UK had 450ms of lag, now it is 114ms.

yeah for some reason it took forever till it came to the US PSN, it was out for a long while in JP PSN and maybe EU?

from the comments in nicovideo, seems like there are 3 different lines that your opponent can say when they're inside may's IK cannon

It looks extremely spectacular, but honestly i can see those animations become really annoying after a pair of times, I hate long and not in match animations.
For some reason the video starts being 22 minutes long but it ends at 12... :\

None of the animations are that long except for the IKs, which are supposed to be flashy and lengthy otherwise they're underwhelming. An exception could be Faust's super, but those kinds of things tend to not be irksome in the middle of a fast paced match.
 
I thought it was you but I couldn't track down the exact post (I probably should have used gaf search instead of google).

It looks like they've changed it further as it's an uppercut now instead of a long range thrust. So it'll likely only be useful for combos (and maybe close range punishes depending on the move used and if they're in Hellfire or not).

I think some characters are definitely going to have it easier than others. Like Sol being able to do it from his RC'd command grab (although that costs full meter and there are likely less meter intensive ways to land it).

Instant Kill in general seems like a very interesting mechanic at least compared to Astrals in the sense that you can do it at any time but there's a hefty penalty if you mess it up.

I expect many YOLO Instant Kills in Gaf's Xrd future. :p



I seriously can't wait. I haven't even played it yet but I feel that it's going to the game of the year for me.

It would be funny if it was something as simple as CH greed sever.

Looks like it's even simpler than that. :p

My PS4 is definitely ready for this, hopefully we a nice PSBlog post soon about a localization or something. That is where most announcements for the west are made now.

Just about every official trailer for the game had English subtitles, this alone is a giveaway that the game will be getting an English release IMO.

The question is "when", not "if." Probably why he's hoping for a PS Blog post soon, instead of sometime in the far-flung future.
 
Even if the game doesn't come over here (impossible) the option to import would still be there.

Luckily we won't have to do that (unless the NA release is something like a month or two after JP).

yeah most probably everyone can do dust > RC > IK mode > IK
keep in mind you need 100% tension for this to work, 50% for the RC and then to go into IK mode super freeze (nothing confirmed yet, but people are saying you need 50% in your tension remaining for the hellfire mode IK super freeze to activate)
