Brave Frontier |OT| No puzzles, just dragons

i mean about when can i tackle one? I tried doing the lvl1 of flower in the frost and got my ass kicked in the first room.

Metal parades are signifigantly easier than character dungeons. Metal spirits (lowest tier) commonly do single digit damage and attack only once. Metal kings can hit for around 100~200. Metal gods hit harder, with the most i've seen so far being a little over 1,000 on a crit vs a light element unit.

They are like the jewel dungeon, only easier. Basically, if your account has 15 energy and you have 5 units in your party, you should be able to clear it. I think the first time I attempted one, i still had slimes in my party (they died, but i still won).

Yeah, definitely jump in there as early as you can.

Since it gives you 1000 XP each time, you can level up constantly, refreshing your Energy [if you're a low rank]. The first time I went in there I think I ran it 6-7 times, and gained several ranks. I stayed in there after my energy was depleted too [stay on the quest select screen] until I regained 15 energy, and ran it one last time.

So...if you don't leave the screen, you can still go in after time expires?

Sounds like a bug.

The only downside (if you can call it that) is that it makes progressing through the quests on the first map slower, since you won't be leveling up frequently (if at all) while you are doing them. But after you basically power level your units and account, you should be able to challenge the lv1 vortex dungeons in general filling the exp gaps in as needed.

So...if you don't leave the screen, you can still go in after time expires?

Sounds like a bug.

Bug? Unpatched "feature"?

Tomato, Tomato.

With how they are borking their clock timers and having to restart things lately, it is hard to say which is which.

Yeah, if you stay on the screen, you can get another one in despite being past the one hour limit.

It was known/mentioned a long time ago, so if they felt it should be patched/changed, I'm sure Gumi would have done it by now. They seem to be fine with it.

What's a good type for Stya? I'm guessing Breaker?

I finally caught her and she's Oracle type :(

http://bravefrontierglobal.wikia.com/wiki/Frost_Queen_Stya

Base 1,917 905 620 920
Lord 3,103 1,207 800 1,459
Anima* 3,525 1,207 800 1,339
Breaker* 3,103 1,323 685 1,459
Guardian* 3,103 1,091 912 1,459
Oracle* 2,671 1,207 800 1,580
*Final, in-game stats may differ slightly.

Assuming this is accurate, she alread biases towards being offensive and she has a decent attacking skill, so typically folks will want to enhance that with a breaker type. Of course that makes her more fragile, so it just depends really. Although, given what else exists, I don't think the guardian type will make sense for her at all and if the oracle one is still accurate, I have no idea why she would need a REC stat that high. It would synergize well with an ability to generate more heart crystals/improve heart crystal effects, but it seems a bit overkill.

Bottom line though, is if you need a decent water unit, I wouldn't get rid of her until you found a more suitable replacement.

When in doubt Anima is the best IMHO. Oracle would be good enough once the oracle buff occurs.

Yeah I do like the Anima type as well, I'll definitely hang onto the Oracle Stya I captured but I'll keep trying since I'm short on Water units.

So, do you guys think Kikuri, Lodaga, Lemia, Il & Mina, and the World Tree would make a good team? I really need to focus on one team for now so I can hopefully clear the new map in a month or two.

I've been plugging away with a catch-all team of somewhat random elements, making a few swaps if the dungeon looks like its geared to a specific type.

However, a new "map" opened up for me that doesn't seem to follow the typing conventions so far. It was some kind of volcano/crater, but there were very few fire types in there.

Is this the norm going forward? Should I bother with a balanced team, or is it better to stick to one type and use the appropriate leader boosts (like the one on the starters)?

Looking at the elemental strength/weaknesses, there doesn't seem to be much of a downside to making an all dark/light team, whereas an all fire/water/thunder/earth team could get blown up by the wrong boss. Is this reasonably accurate?

Sort of.

An all dark/light team against an all dark/light team is rough. You can get one-shot SO quick. However, against the other elements? Awesome.

As for other elements...You sort of want to mix and match a bit at some point. It can get really dangerous if you have a mono team later on. AoE attacks WILL wipe you immediately, and that suuuuucks.

Is anyone else having a problem playing on an iPad since the last update? It half looks like it's gone universal but with a load of graphical glitches like bits of the screen are offset badly.

Here's an example

eK5f2Hc.png

It's worse during combat. In the arena I can't read my health displays properly

Finally got stya. Must have spent 250 points on that one vortex to finally get her to drop.

Also, got Eze from Honor summon! My lightning team is badass now. I do need a high level healer...I'm just dealing with a 3 star Angel Maria as my only healer and her HP is so, so low. Thank god for friends b/c I've been using some revives.

Still haven't gotten Stya and I've done it like a dozen times on Lv 1 and a bunch on Lv 2 as well. Shit is annoying. >=O

Don't count on a level 1 drop. Level 2 is also super uncommon. Level 3 is where it's at. I'm 4/5 on that. Shitty that it's not guaranteed, but it's better than wasting time grinding level 2 forever with nothing to show.

My team isn't strong enough to consistently do Lv 3 though. I can kill the Lv 2 version of Stya but even if I get to the level 3 one, I think she just frosts me over, lol.

I've gotten 2 out of 8 on level 2, I just don't think I can handle level three, especially if they keep on throwing all earth rounds like they do in level 2.

What are recommended levels for Lv3 vortex dungeons? I've successfully obtained Alma, Stya, and Zeln from Lv1, though I'd rather not go through the grind.

High Dancer has a new evolution option now, which would probably make her a more solid choice than Maria given your listed elemental bias (IE stones/ores become more useful).

Damn. How many runs is that??

I didn't really count. Zeln was pretty lucky; it only took a few runs. Alma/Stya maybe a few days. Since progress on my team is really only made during metal/evo runs, Vortex dungeons is my default goto if there is nothing else pressing to do.

While levels are important, it's more about stats and skills. When I run Level 3, I run:

39 Emilia (L) - 25% boost to thunder
25 King Behemoth (O)
34 Tinkerer Elulu (G)
39 Strategist Weiss (B)
38 Royal Dancer May (L)

I usually partner with someone who has a 50% boost to thunder or an Aem for large BB building. HP is all greater than 3k except for Elulu who is at 2500. The elemental defense makes Stya a lot easier. Weiss with his ATK boost, the item that increases def for thunder units, the item that increases ATK for thunder units...

And when I was farming Alma with my wood team, I actually brought Elimo and Phoenix for healing. You just sort of have to play with it. Ideally, if you have an Aem (which I really really hope I pull one day), you can build a LOT of Vortex level 3 teams. That BB boost is amazing.

It depends. You are going to want high level characters to start with 50~60+, if for nothing else bigger defense and hp totals to endure the AOE spam you are going to face. Aside from that, part of it will be bringing the right characters. For example, having someone who can apply paralyze against Stya is very useful. While other characters like Alma, you can get away with just raw force and plenty of healing items. Zeln was a pain in the ass for me, since I don't have a tree (element bias + status removal) and he could apply the attack lowering debuff to the entire party every turn drawing out the fight a long ass time. Nemia was a cake walk by comparison, since she only does single target attacks and my better units are mostly fire anyhow. I haven't had the opportunity to fight oboro or that fire truncheon guy yet.

Going beyond that, it will come down to a little bit of logical thought process for sphere equipping and having characters that synergize well with each other, in both attack frames and abilities. Being able to spark routinely is a signifigant bonus to your damage output across a few rounds. Equipping characters that aren't all about the offense with things like flesh armor will go a long way as well. The items for healing and support brought into battle is the last step, but in general you will probably need tonics (except against alma), ores and stones (unless you have a undine/siren, elimo, dryad/high elf, or hot chef), a revive because the game is an unforigiving
explative redacted
at times and it gives you a second chance, and of course your healing items as space allows.

Aside from avoiding the grind, you will want to do the lv3 tier for the first time completion gem bonus as well enabling more chances to get stuff you don't already have.

The Pirate, Theif, Bandit etc are pretty decent now they have a 4 star evolution.

Should be able to hit 3.5k+ HP with my Pirate when hes fully levelled.

http://bravefrontierglobal.wikia.com/wiki/Sky_Emperor_Grafl

Interestingly the Elemental Ghosts are 254-268 so the next patch should seem them added.

Edit:- Just noticed Frontier Hunter is open in the city. (It makes lvl 3 dungeons look like a cakewalk)

Did 10 pulls:

Breaker Kikuri
Breaker Lava and Lord Lava
Fire Drake
Lord Elimo
Guardian Gunner Douglas
Anima Sky Hero Athena
Breaker Will
Lord Aem
Anima Memetes

Free 4*: Breaker Il & Mina

Very happy with my pulls. Glad I got 2 of the new characters. Now I have to level up them which is going to take a while lol.

They seem intent on keeping Alice on top.

So happy I have one even if she is a guardian. I've noticed that in arenas she isn't so much a glass canon like the ones I fight and that in and of itself helps her dps since she might survive a hit with like double digit hp.

Also, no IAP is crushing...

So I've started, and my first two pulls gave me:

Great Tree Alneu
Inventor Elulu

I also went ahead and evolved a witch into Warlock Liza, since it was cheap.

I'm not planning on rerolling or anything, but just curious on how well I ended up.

Great Tree is perfect, one of the four really strong healers in game right now so you're set.

She is completely overshadowed by Kikuri as of now, with this evo she's back on top.

I couldn't pull a Kik in 11 pulls :\

My Alice is an Oracle Alice but she is still pretty boss. Can't wait for the Oracle buff.

Tree is a good pull and Elulu has a useful BB. Sparking Elulu feels a little awkward due to the slow windup and narrow frame of her hits, but not too bad unlike the 2nd string of hits from zegar. The challenge will be building a solid team around the tree. What was your first hero choice?

so what is one suppose to do with all these fodder gotten from quests?

fuse them? Is there elemental type bonus like PD? Sell them?
There is a bonus for fusing same elemental types, but in my personal opinion, it's not worth it. Just sell whichever ones you don't want/need, and level your Units with Metals.

We're supposed to be getting colored Metals soon, apparently Japan already has them.

Fodder is useful for skill ups, if you can be bothered and have a character in its highest evolution.

Can be expensive though.

It does make the difference between a good character and a great one though.

Jewel dungeon is for zel.

Nope, that's just for Zel, although supposedly it's a lot more lucrative than the weekend dungeon.

The colored Metals, to my knowledge, would simply start showing up in the regular Metal dungeon.

Oh, did not know that. Disappointing. The fact that they only have one color metals for leveling up is so dumb. Why are they copying what PAD did over a year ago? I understand the desire to just copy PAD in everything, which this game already does, but it shouldn't copy such silly faults.

The one thing they didn't copy they made much worse (HATE you class types, P&D's +1s were handled better).

I HATE class types.

Oh, you pulled that Unit you really wanted? Congratulations! But wait, she's a physical attacker, you say? Well, enjoy your Guardian! ~_~

You shouldn't need to roll that RNG dice twice to get a Unit/Type you want. Either make that Type changeable in-game [perhaps with Zel], or don't have it there at all. This is the Nature in Pokémon all over again, only you can't easily reset/capture more, you need to spend Gems [and more than likely, money] to do so.

I know, you don't need a specific type, as any of them will generally suffice, but if I'm building the best possible team I can, having a Unit with 400+ less attack than another is troubling.
