Kotaku: Leaked Images Reveal One Of This Fall's Two Assassin's Creed Games

Lol yeah

I mean it in the way of Naruto and those cheesy Ninja movies leaping from the ground to. Rooftops etc.

I figured, the idea of Assassin's Creed being historically accurate was too amusing to pass up. I think the desire for a Japan setting comes more from "What if Tenchu wasn't a pain in the ass to play?" than from any fantastic ideas of what the period was actually like. And the architecture is something that's pretty unique and gives the setting a strong identity, where more people who play AC games are familiar with what a European style city looks like and it doesn't seem as exciting.

18th century France is a great setting for the series, I'm not going to complain. I like the idea a lot more than I like the terrible AC3 setting or the pirates theme at the very least.

I don't really read those threads granted...but do people swoop in in COD threads to complain how the series is always the same, how they stopped after COD IV blablabla? I mean, that's pretty annoying to see this in every AC thread ever.

After how surprisingly good IV turned out to be, I'm down for more. Though, I need to actually see the gameplay before I decide whether they'll be purchases or rentals. The setting for these games can do a lot for me.

ACIV (in my opinion) was carried by its setting. The tropical island feel combined with pirate shenanigans made it really fun. I hated every moment of the Assassin's Creed focused missions though. The tailing, eavesdropping, science fiction crap and present day nonsense are going to be in the next game as well most likely. I'm not sure how much more of that I can endure.

Are you not burnt out on the series yet?
The change of setting and characters keeps the game fresh and makes each one feel rather unique. The only time I ever got burned out on the series was with Revelations. Three games with largely the same setting and character was too much. As long as they keep changing up the setting and refining the gameplay, I don't think I could ever get tired of the series. It also helps that I love history, and the AC games provide a fantastic way of jumping into the past.

We hate all games equally here.

Seems like london, I do not want. Give me something vivid like santorini, etc.

Paris.

If they can do a better job with the main mission design, i.e. get rid of the atrocious tailing, chasing, listening crap, I'd be down for this. The setting could be really cool. ACIV was so good because of the setting and the awesome boat stuff.

Gotta say, I'm kind of excited about the fact that it's Paris. This may have something to do with the fact that I am currently living here.

But yeah, hopefully they change up the gameplay enough so that we don't have a tail-missiony collectathon all over again (and I liked Black Flag btw).

We don't know anything about this game yet, but I can't help but feel like its a massive step backwards to the Ezio trilogy. Losing the Jackdaw is going to suck

I got grudge sucked!
I figured after a game set in the American revolution, the French revolution made perfect sense for the next AC game. Besides, they can go back to Yerp and their tall buildings and churches.

Is anyone even remotely excited for this?
Another year another AC.... sigh.

I'm willing to give them one more chance. I didn't think AC4 was all that great, but at least it was a major improvement over AC3... which so far is the one and only AC that I truly disliked. I'm willing to give them one more shot to finally do another one as rad as AC2 was.

All they have to say is "completely new combat engine" and ill be giddy as hell

Unless the go all ninja gaiden, I really don't see the combat ever getting drastically better. They will always try to balance believability with being badass. And that comes down overpowered countering and auto-sequences.

Right now, the French Revolution just does not look interesting enough.

Big cities to free run through, large churches and towers to climb, an alliance that splinters once the great enemy Louis XVI is killed and a political powder keg full of backstabbing and distrust.

Sounds pretty interesting to me, I just hope they keep it grey rather than make the characters archetypes i.e Assassins are the undisputed good guys and Templars eat babies.

I had a hunch the original leak was accurate. The story was just too detailed to be made up. Well done sir.

Assassins Creed is the only annual franchise I buy every game for and I like the historical settings a lot. The only AC game I truly disliked was AC3 because of the dull as drying paint setting. I really like the series returning to Europe where you can get some real cities at the sort of scale that is appropriate for an AC game. The French Revolution should provide plenty of history to retcon - if Robespierre isn't the ultimate antagonist of this game I'd be shocked.

The main thing they need to improve on AC4 is the on foot combat. A completely new combo system (eg God Of War, Yakuza) would be something that would get me super hyped about the game.

Heh. The American Revolution setting was what brought AC3 to the front of the pack for me. All other AC games I've played including 4 have bored me to tears. 3 is the only one I've really liked.

Feudal Japan would have been awesome though. Maybe next time.

Damn. Didn't realize that two Assassin's Creed games are coming out this fall.

Ubisoft sure is milking this franchise.

I hope that releasing all these games so quickly doesn't ruin the whole AC storyline.

I wonder if you still have that final conversation with the people you kill if they get guillotine'd

"Rest now in pea...uh hey, oh, your head, it rolled over there...sorry"

Sometimes I think I'm the only one who doesn't want ships or wildlife or any of that bs and just wants to climb up big things.

Nothing in 4 was as cool as climbing Giotto's Campanile. or doing the Assassin's Tombs. Part of what I hated in AC 3 and 4 was they got rid of stuff where you kind of had to figure out where you were. Like running up one wall then hitting the jump to land on the other. It automated what was already an automated game.

Having a massive six ship battle at night during a massive storm with thunder and lightning everywhere was about as epic as AC ever got.

Although early versions of the game they look incredibly smooth and good textures... look forward to seeing more detail/lighting/effects/weather etc added... If its due Fall, they are not giving much time for hype :)

While I'm happy they're splitting the series so we can have "real" next-gen games, the development pictures do look a tad underwhelming.

Or maybe I'm just suffering from "this series has too many games".

It's an early development screen. There are even some textures missing in a few of the leaked pictures. The screens look really early. Who knows when they were actually taken.

I'm with you on that. The naval battles are cool, but they aren't Assasin's Creed. I'd love a deep pirate themed game using those naval battles and expanding everything as a new IP, but I'd like Assassin's to get back to climbing, assassinations, and navigating big cities with impressive architecture + weirdly convoluted Assassin's Tombs. And yeah, they've really dumbed down navigation far too much, which was already simple, and have actually made it less accurate as a result.
