Xbox One headsets/headphones

So what's the final verdict, guys - should I pick up the Xbox official headset?

I think it's great, IF they fix the crackling and sounds blips. So far they've made no promises.

FYI, the adapter is the problem. So any headset plugged into the adapter has the same issues.

And they might also add the virtual surround sound right? Otherwise, for the price it seems like a great value.

They've said they could add vss. I'm not that interested in such a feature. You're still able to hear decent directional location in the stereo audio.

There is apparently another controller update in the latest beta update, have you messed with that to see if it fixed it? I am using the 4-Shots and have to say I haven't heard any crackling.

Yeah I am guessing they just pull everyone who is registered and has the 4shots and send one to them. Me included.

Good on Polk.

Gotcha, sounds good, thanks.

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
I've had zero crackling sound in my 3 or 4 hours of use with the adapter and my Turtle Beach X41s.

Only problem I've had is my controller "locked up" once, but that happened the first night I used the adapter and updated the controller firmware and hasn't happened in 3 more play sessions.

Do you (or others in similar position) use audio via your controller adapter or via your wireless?

I currently have my adapter on party chat only cos I felt I had more control over volume levels that way, but concerned/curious about audio quality and wireless interference.

Only had one session with it though.

I've tried both, but 90% of the time was via the wireless transmitter.

For those of you experiencing crackling, do you have the Xbox One power settings to "instant on"? If so, try setting to "energy saving" and reboot. See if that helps.

I just got the Astro A40 at Best Buy for $70. Figured I would snag it while at that price.

Has anyone used them with the new consoles yet?

Anyone with the packed in chat head set. Is the mono ear piece supposed to be adjustable for left or right fits? I have one that can pivot to the left or right, and one that is locked into place.

HOW?!

Price match.

I'm just going to sell them or return them. I had a gut feeling I wouldn't like them as much as my Turtle Beach set, and I was right.

I found to 7.1 effect and overall sound quality on my my A50's much better compared to my old XP500, but that's my opinion.

Where are they $70. I'd grab a set if I could match them to that price as well.

It's not a guarantee.

They are on sale here, but out of stock. You can check to see if they are in stock on the Best Buy site. They don't price-match out of stock items, so it's a gamble. I was just nice, showed them the advert on my phone, and they adjusted the pricing without an issue for me.

I've never tried wireless headphones, doesn't seem worth the cost.

- The DSS box made by Turtle Beach has less of a audio delay than the MixAmp does. It also doesn't process game chat.

- I prefer the mesh cloth on the TB headsets more than the Astro.

- Astro does not have mic monitoring in the same manner. It's highly nonadjustable.

- I can't hook up a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack to the MixAmp from my Xbox One/PS4/etc controller for mic support.

- The wires that are bundled with the unit are incredibly short, only offering a mute solution on the wire, no audio controls.

- I can't hook it up directly to my PC/Mac and get USB audio, only chat from the MixAmp.

Those are just a few of the things. Like I said, I've only used them at a convention prior. The build on them are nice, but when I want specific features that the other doesn't have, the brand name isn't going to sell me on it.

? Guessing you just got the headsets and not the mixamp with them?

They come with the MixAmp and the A40 headset.

Well after a week of trying them out, I think I'm going to return my PX51s. They sound fine and all, but the build quality is less than desirable for the price and I find they are not very comfortable for long periods of use.

I also looked into the A50s, but it seems like the mic crackling issue still isn't resolved and paying the full $300 for a product that came out 2 years ago doesn't really sit well with me.

Now that the Titanfall hype has worn off a bit, I think I'm more comfortable just waiting for a better solution. Maybe I'll pick up a pair of Sony golds or the official MS set to use in the meantime.

Thought that was the case. If you're selling, I could be interested.
Still toying with the idea of the Official Headset or keeping a pair of Tritton AX180s. They are rigged to work, but I'll need an adapter to chat.

Also, still no comments on the official chat set being adjustable. Not just up and down, but can the ear piece be set to left or right. I have one pair that almost pivots around, and the other is locked in place.

Yeah, I'm either going to sell or bring back to the store.

I've had no issues with the headset adapter like some others have had. I just turn left side all the way down, right side all the way up, works perfect.

So apparenly my friends say they can barely hear my mic through twitch streams and a bit softer in Skype and parties. I'm using the Microsoft ones. Does anyone else have this issue?

I'm trying out leaving the USB cord in as a quick fix to the Turtle Beach disconnecting issue. So far it hasn't done it but that's no clear indication it never will.

..but cry so much I wish I had some
Just got the Microsoft headset this afternoon and had a 3 hours session of some MGS and then Titanfall, and I have to say that I am impressed so far with the performance. It cuts out the outside noise just enough so that when I am playing with the sound maxed out I cannot hear anything except for the game I am playing and that's great. Still wished I could crank up the sound even more as I usually like my stuff to be really loud! I haven't had any "cracking" noise with mine yet like others have reported.

Built quality is good, I've seen better, but for the price it's fine. Great design and is really comfortable, will hopefully be good this summer when it gets really hot in the house.

I really wanted to go for the Titanfall headset, but since this one was less than half the price and I didn't feel like spending too much I had to go for it and I am not disappointed so far. Would highly recommend it!

Will my Xp400 work with the adapter? Also is the cracking sound still an issue, hate using the cheap headset that came with Xbox and want to use my turtle beach.

The biggest issue with the adapter is the controller losing sync (but stays powered on) problem. All of a sudden mid game, you'll lose controller input and are greeted with a "please reconnect controller" warning yet the controller is still powered on, forcing a hard reset by removing and putting back in the battery pack.

Happens to everyone I know using the adapter, including many of you reporting it in this thread. It's completely random. I had to stop using my headset and adapter because of this. Went a week without using it, then last night I tried it again and an hour and a half into playing it happened again. Ugh.

Well that sucks hopefully they fix this issue asap, really want to use my turtle beach headphones :(

Hey, I know it's really not the thread for it, but does anyone have any insight on whether I should buy the Xbone Stereo Headset or the TurtleBeach XO4?

It came down to this two in the end, I'd really love to use it on PC, but comfort and durability is first. Now the XBO Stereo looks a bit ass with the 'cone ears', however I'm sure it will be supported by MS, and they'll also take care of warranty after September (Tier 2).

So can someone, who tried both help me to decide which one to get? As I've heard, sound quality is equally good on both.

Most of the posts I read on reddit suggest that the official X1 headset is very comfortable. More than Turtle Beach at least.

Out of curiosity has anybody tried the Razer Kraken Pro with the chat adapter? I'm considering picking up a pair to use for both my One and PS4 since they seem to be on sale at Best Buy. If anyone has experience with both the Xbox One Stereo Headset and the Kraken Pro, do you have a preference on which is better?

I'll just leave this here: Got an e-mail from polk that they are sending me out the boom mic for my 4shots today. FedEx estimates I'll have them by Tuesday of next week so hopefully can report that the voice chat issue is resolved.

I'm really confused by the XB1 official headset. It says "stereo sound" which to me means simple left and right.

Does it offer a surround sound effect? I use my Sony Pulse Elites on my PS4 and it's glorious and want to go with something comparable and without wires.

You can definitely tell when something is behind you to the left, or the right. So yes, it's stereo, but good stereo can still give you some impression of surround.

Not at all. The build quality on the Astros are much more impressive. After that, they are certainly lacking a bit in the versatility column.

Versatility column?

What else do you want them to do?

For reference I have owned the TB X11's and A40's.

Versatility column?

What else do you want them to do?

For reference I have owned the TB X11's and A40's.

Everything that my Turtle Beach headsets can do?

  • I'm forced to use the 2.5mm jack, which needs an adapter for the Xbox One.
  • I want mic monitoring which really isn't effective on any platform.
  • I want a longer cable so that I'm not dragging around the bulky MixAmp. That seemed to be the most surprising issue with a wired headset.
  • I want to have choice in cushions, prefer the mesh material.
  • I want the MixAmp to not handle in-game voice chat, likely causing the delay in audio timing.
...I can keep going on. Point is they are really decent headphones, but for the cost (even at getting them for $40) they just are lacking what I already have available to me in the other headphones.

Game audio and chat audio?

They work wired to the controller. Uses the same 3.5mm plug.
