The PS2 versions of Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront 2 use Gamespy.
Farewell.
Farewell.
Wait, MK9's online'll be dead? I know it's not great as it is, but it's less than a year old on PC.
What's that have to do with this? This is affecting several games I own on disk.
You can get all those games on disc .
Yep, this is just a glance into the future, this will happen to every game you love today. The only way to save them is with Server Emulators or fake Online play via LAN for games that support that.
Since most modern games wont ever release their Server software and most dont support System-Link/LAN, we are all fucked.
some good old RTS games going down with this, notably Dawn of War 1 (edit: looks like this one has been dead already). I'm not sure, I think C&C Generals too. pre Empire total war games as well.
Wait does this mean I can no longer play my PS2 version of THPS3 online?
WELP
Well...better get going on getting the last UT3 trophy on my PS3.
Can anyone confirm if MK9 is affected?
The silkiest? RIP Aquasilk
99% sure its affected. The whole matchmaking system was gamespy, and one of the reasons the online was so bad.
It sounds like GameSpy was removed from 3SO in the patch, so everything should theoretically be fine and dandy. I'm verifying here, though. Watch the @ItotheG twitter for an update.
Iron Galaxy will probably fix SF3. i hope.
3SO good news, subject to confirmation:
Capcom and Lab Zero put work into their fighters on PC.It's already dead. I tried to play the other day and there was four people playing online.
Still absurd that a game I bought last August won't even work online anymore if I wanted to play with a friend. I'd ask WB and Boon to fix it but they don't give a shit about PC and never even patched it to begin with. Last time I buy a fighting game on PC for sure. Pathetic support all around.
...so I was right?
...so I was right?
SF3: OE uses the same backend services that Darkstalkers: Resurrection does since the last patch. The online battles will continue! This is in regards to worries about GameSpy services shutting down in May.

Are the Battlefield Modern Combat PS2 servers still up?
From IG:
I knew it.
I asked keits a similar question, and he didn't know. He asked lang and ramon for clarification. Still waiting for that response, and I'll post it when it happens.
If it does uses gamespy in a way that affects online play (outside of replay storage/leaderboards) then I apologize for being a dick. I was under the impression that GGPO handles almost every online feature outside the replay storage.
And then make us wait 6+ months to get the updated console versions. Yea, I own SFxT and SSF4 AE on Steam. SFxT didn't get 2013 till months after it was irrelevant and AE took over six months to get AE 2012 patch iirc.

Need more LAN options in games.

RIP Halo CE
What's worrying is that even if they submit a patch, the last time they did so it took 14 months for Capcom to push it through.
They were a couple of years ago when I gave my account on there to a friend, they'd just closed them to new registrations so only existing accounts worked. Are the Battlefield Modern Combat PS2 servers still up?
