Winter-Spring 2014 Anime |OT3| People incapable of guilt usually do have a good time

Mushishi 1

Grandma is a little girl. Well, great, now there's one show I can't suggest to that fucker.

Well given the talk about Mushishi, and how this episode went, I think I have a grasp on how this plays out. Not a general overview, more like... expecting episodic goodness, and art.

At least this is like 26 episodes. Slow burning through a show of this length should be fine.

That scene to me is one of the most perfect endings in anime. It ties everything together so well and combined with the music it just gave me the feels something fierce. Damn what a great ending. Mitsuki is such a sweetheart.
Not enough people watched this anime
This is true. I pick Onodera but theyre all great girls and you cant "lose".
more like " won't " not "can't" since i'm sure the author doesn't even know witch will win and how.
Good thing I went for the local microbrew, the homeroom teacher.
That's always a fine back-up plan.

Initially I was thinking faces in yamato 2199 look kinda bad and odd from some angles, I think it got a lot better after a few episodes and everything looked super great in second half. Then I went and checked how the original looks like...

I'm so glad I've never seen the original D:

Mekaku City looks great. Really well animated, what you'd expect form Shaft. Shame the material is so bad. Like real bad. Dropped

Just to clarify, in this sentence does the comma denote two separate ideas that happen to be arranged in a sequence? Or does it mean that you believe SHAFT to be a studio known for producing really well animated works?

No srsly u gais. I have no clue what the fuck I just watched. This was 3SHAFT5ME. It was like all style and pretty visuals and no substance. I'm left more confused than entertained and the sense of boredom the character was experiencing I experienced too. The ending was confusing. I hope they start to clarify what the fuck is going on later on because 1 episode in I don't see the hype. I'll give it a shot considering how many people were dick riding this show though.

That SHAFT is a studio known for producing good animation, at least from the shows I have seen from them (the sensei one, monogatari, and yet the town moves and nisekoi).

Exactly how I felt.

Why can't people who want to talk about an anime which has an OT talk about it in the OT instead? I can understand if people don't really want to talk about a show and just want to dump impressions in the animegaf thread instead to acknowledge they've watched it, but if there's actual discussion and people would rather do it in a cluttered megathread instead of the proper OT for the show, it's pretty disheartening.

I'm trying :(

I feel like this episode requires so much SHAFT love to make the episode work. Much more so than Nisekoi, which can at least fall back on crappy harem hijinks. It's literally 12 minutes of two people talking to each other right off the bat, so if you don't care about Monogatari, then I can see why there really isn't anything there for you.

They're highly stylistic, but they're not "good" in the whole sakuga sense that people use "good" in.

Yeah I really don't give a fuck about Monogatari, but the ED makes it seem like the show will transform into The World Ends With You the anime. I'm giving it a chance as long as it doesn't transform into Talking About Nothing: the anime.

In terms of the actual quality of their animation SHAFT are known as being one the worst major studios in the business. They frequently stylised stills, bank animation, and collage as tools to mitigate how poorly animated their shows tend to be but, on the whole, their work tends to look very cheap. This has been the case for many years now, even though some of their shows have looked better than others (Yet the Town Moves being one example).

I'd watch an anime of Kana Asumi talking to some dumb dude for 24 minutes!

Hell that's kind of almost what this was...

I dropped monogatari after the guy started fondling his sisters and going after elementary school girls.

What I don't get is that he apparently
has no emotions, so how can he be joking about it?

Understanding the basics of humor doesn't require them. Say X, just kidding I meant Y. But you'd suck at it. Considering how nobody really reacted like it was a joke since the deadpan delivery was not appropriate.

edit: I'm not denying there are incesty vibes but people here are making them way worst that they need to be considering other shows.

Where the hell were you when Pupipo was airing??? ( ` 3 ´ )

Mahouka 2
INCEST!? WHAT INCEST! THERE'S NO INCEST HERE!!!
but it's not incest until they're down to fuck. HOPE THIS HELPS

The whole scene
is a facade , he just do this as a joke to move the conversation along.. he just say what he think is appropriate to sya given any situation to keep the illusion that he has emotions

Of course this point get void with his next sentence everyone keep forgetting to post as well.

R_thanatos you certainly make a good point because context is obviously important (as is generally the case) so a one-off still from a scene doesn't really tell you that much, especially if in context you realise it's a "joke".

However, when you take that scene in the context of the show itself and especially how the protagonist and his sister act with each, it's just more fuel for a fire that's already being burning pretty well on it's own! Why would the writer even have the character say that line if he didn't expect the audience to already be thinking on those lines?

[Puella Magi Madoka Magica]
In that scene you referenced
Homura had just told Kyubey of the original universe before Madoka had rewrote it to which Kyubey ponders the theoretical harvesting method of energy. In this scene there is no dialogue/mention of how exactly Kyubey gets said energy in the new universe, however it can be heavily implied the 'cubes' Homura is tossing towards Kyubey is the new way of energy harvesting he needs. With that said one must now derive where said cubes come from in the first place.
I assumed they "dropped" from the new enemies (referred to as Majû (魔獣), if I remember well), seeing how they had those strange square digital artifact thingies going on (I believe their design was supposed to evoke law/order as opposed to the chaos of the magic exhibited so far by magical girls and witches).

In fact in the same scene this moment is shown where these cubes are seemingly purifying Homura's soul gem. If Kyubey harvests energy from a soul gem shattering then why do these cubes exist that he eats/absorbs? Again, there is no explicit dialogue on how exactly Kyubey harvests energy in the new universe, however there is heavy implication he does so from these cubes.
Yeah, that's what I've always assumed. It's the only method he has in that new world, so he has no reason not to genuinely help the magical girls, now.

episode1-durarara-993b9agx.jpg

Holo what are you doing here?

Durarara!! 1

Opening: Nice. Definitely something I can see myself listening to over and over again.
Ending: Thought I hate it, but nope. I like it and will stick around to listen.

So this was just one big introduction to all the other characters that I presume I will be seeing throughout the show.

Impressions on main guy are kinda in between. I don't really like him but I can't say I hate him just yet. Just seems too plain for my taste. Friend is nice, but there's nothing really about him that makes me interested in him right now. Dullahan is Dullahan, so I'm obligated to like her no matter what.

I'm guessing this is supposed to be a setup, but that girl they bumped into has Dullahan's head doesn't she?

Don't even think its worth hiding since a Dullahan usually carry their heads around and it didn't seem she was hiding it on her bike.

That and the whole cut area around her neck was just plain obvious.

Miya's voice (Amagamamgami) was so <3 . I have to admit defeat, it was intoxicatingly cute.

OH god yes. Miya is so adorable. MadP even adopted her catchphrase laugh.

Atelier Escha and Logy
I really had no idea what to expect, since really game adaptations have such a low bar - Neptunia, SMT:DS2, Danganronpa, but this was actually pretty good.

S1OE4Unl.jpg

A nice gentle slice of life/world building show, with minimal nods to the game. You have a couple of generic but inoffensive protagonists, a girl with a dream, and poof - you've made a good adventure anime.

I probably should play the game, of course, but I figure this is much easier. lol

hofgR3bl.jpg

Also, is she a robot, or a moe-bot?
(Couldn't resist. :( )

I think something was lost in the artwork adaptation here. Maybe not as badly as Ricks Bread.

I get what you are saying. I do. I understand it. I am talking about this scene at the end in particular...

Kyubey and Homura explicitly show here that
Magical Girls cannot become witches because the impurities just shatter and that's how Kyubey gathers energy that it needs. The loop that the show created was shattered. No longer can magical girls become witches. It's inconsequential how impure the Soul Gems get. In which case no Witch should ever be born ever. I am gonna keep looping back to this scene because they spent 5 minutes explaining this. Madoka is inconsequential. Because regardless, without Grief Seeds, the Soul Gem will be tainted to all hell. Hence they wrote around it by saying "well if a Soul gem gets too tainted the impurities leave the soul gem and shatter after a certain period of time and this is how Kyubey gets the power it needs". In which case -> magical girls can never become witches. You can't have it one way and claim it also does the other. If magical girls cannot become witches due to this new rule with the Soul Gems, Magical Girls cannot become witches therefore making Madoka's wish null and void at that point. She doesn't need to "save" MG anymore because of this. Therefore Sayaka's Soul Gem when it got tainted should've just shattered the impurities. But for whatever reason that didn't happen. Leaving the gaping plot hole that I am referencing
.

While in retrospect the show
kind of "undoes" that
, at the time of the series, it made sense. It wasnt until later
that Madoka effectively undoes that and sets into motion a new timeline in which soul gems arent affected in such a way.
I took it as the show occurring and then it continuing on indefinitely from that point in history. But I see your point that with
Madoka essentially becoming a god, she would have pre-empptively put an end to these events to begin with
But then the show would even exist at all. Its kind of an unavoidable eventuality but for the sake of artistic license it must be done this way.

If they don't go anywhere, I'm just not sure what they can do if they're just hanging out at the castle all the time. At least Pilot's Love Song had the excuse of the school.

Although then again, Allison to Lillia is kind of static in terms of dumping its characters into a specific place for 4-6 episode arcs anyway.

Allison and Lillia is a good watch but not very remarkable in any way. Honestly cant remember a lot of what happened

Fino was the best of the show without doubt.

I didn't disliked it, it had some very good moments, but some of the jokes and situations didn't work for me. Maybe I'll recover it when I feel I have less stuff I want to watch before.

Yeah I wasnt too taken by the fanservice either but the show was VERY entertaining to me.

If only it promised to be half as good as Accel World I'd watch it!

Accel World set a high bar. Im not joking. I really think it did.
It had good characters, a pleasant art style, a decent story, some fun dialogue, a decent ending, and KYH. I cant really fault it. So much better than SAO.

I agree with this in the case of Mahouka since its well known and discussed, but Im honestly not sure what shows have an OT or not.
Its hard to keep track.

Space Brothers 1

Will say, this was quite a first episode, one that's definitely easy to relate to as well.

Gonna continue as I can, slowly.

Youve started a pretty epic and addictive series. You'll root for Mutta to succeed constantly because hes such a likeable fellow.
Also Serika is cute as fuck.

Not enough people watched this anime

more like " won't " not "can't" since i'm sure the author doesn't even know witch will win and how.

That's always a fine back-up plan.

Yeah more people should watch Full Moon but its 52 episodes so I can see why they would be kind of intimidated. Its worth seeing though. Highly recommend it, and not just because its adorable.

Kamigami no Asobi 02

RH3kz5Wl.jpg

Already fullfilling the white knight on a shining horse fantasy.

Surprisingly still not a bad otome series. The amusement of gods having to learn about humans in order to graduate from this school and escape from it (so almost like Danganronpa just without the murdering) seems like it could carry this show until the end of the season.

o1xuGHdl.jpg

The mascot not being some cute squeaky animal works too. The otome lead is very average but she seems to be taking her role in this school well and isn't a shy little violet so that's a plus.

FEQvzmWl.jpg

And also delicious brown teacher.

Durarara: the anime that had all these interesting characters but they decided to focus on the three most bland ones who just happen to be important.

I'm looking forward to a new season, but they should've focused on the crazy doctor and Celty. Or on Shizuo and IIZZZZZZZZZAAAAAAAAAAAYAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Just came to say I hope you all hate Marika

What is this I don't even!

I think he means he enjoys the style of animation that Shaft produces, which I also agree with. They are minimalistic and I would even say cheap but it works the way they present it. I have always enjoyed the particular style even before I knew what shaft studio was.

Do it cajun! Embrace Rebellion in all its glory.

I will no worries! I paid enough for that privelege lol.

Date a Live II 01

lol @ Origami being DTF in a roadside restroom. What a slore. Kurumi, hurry back pls.

This.

Same. I want the Yui one!

Thanks for taking the time to do this. One of my top favorite animes at this point.
I showed Madoka Magica to a friend of mine after he kept putting it off and he was astounded by it, and he has seen anime since the late 70s. There is osmething visceral about the way the show presents itself. Something very special that puts it above most other shows I think. Its not just the quirkiness of Shaft but the way the world was carefully constructed, made sense in the universe, and resolved the story in a non-standard way for a mahou shoujo. Just a really creative and once in a lifetime mix of elements that just WORKED.
Speaking of which, I opened the package with the Rebellion movie and it looks stunning.
Cant wait to watch it.

I want a Yurippe one. One of my favorite characters of the show.

Like I said I really enjoyed it! Thanks for reading the review. It's in my top 20 for sure.

Fake Edit: I looked up an explaination to my big gaping plot hole complaint on the Madoka wiki. Even though they don't explain it in the show, the wiki did a great job at answering what I was asking. I am still not in love with the execution of the ending but I can live with it.

Take that, Onedera fans.

Onodera is an angel!!!!
