Fuuuuck! This game has completely sucked me in, I'm almost sad as I just know I'm going to be building up a backlog in the coming months. I could lose days playing this game, I just levelled my leatherworker up to lvl10 and got a few conjurer cross skills as well for my lancer.

Seriously good fun so far :)

How's the end game in this? I played the beta and loved it, but I'm worried there isn't a ton to do after you're done leveling. I loved the raiding aspect in WoW and it's kind of spoiled me haha.

Not at all on par with WoW, but updates are paced well, have good variety and content is significantly better than most other MMOs. Right now I'm mostly yearning for more variety and features than raw content (although Coil turns could certainly be bigger)

Can, you change the hairstyle of your character???

I want to change up the look of my male character from time to time.

If we can change the hair style, how would I go about doing that???

Yes.

There's a quest to unlock an Aesthetician

Players can start the quest by talking to S'dhodjbi at Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (x11,y11).

Yep, there's a quest at Lv. 15-ish in Limsa Lominsa that will introduce you to the Aesthetician. First makeover is free with coupon, and after that it's 2000 gil I think.

Man, you guys need to stop joking about tanking being as easy as going in and spamming flash. I just had to do a low level roulette with a gladiator that only did Fast Blade > Riot Blade and spammed flash/provoke and it was the worst.

Re: gil, I main tank so as of 2.2, I make money just by playing the game. 20k+ a day just for doing my roulettes, phil item drops, darklight drops that I convert into seals which i convert into coke/animal fat, challenge log money, etc all add up real quick. Decided to take a break from trying to meld my ideal crafting grear and spending money on my FC's house about a week ago so I'm missing at ~230k.

As someone who has tanked in MMO for years, I think tanking in FFXIV is quite challenging. It's not that the game is hard, it's that the GCD is 2.5 seconds.

2.5 seconds is flippin' FOREVER to react to lost threat. That DARN GCD! :(

Low level tanking for Paladin can be a tad awkward, it only *really* starts to really ease up once you get Shield Oath, IMO. Just think of all of your party members as viable off-tanks until then! They should probably reshuffle certain skill layouts, too much important stuff is held back until the last stretch and it makes certain jobs feel odd.

I was mostly cool with dungeons though, had fun leveling my Paladin. End game is where I don't like to tank, largely because this game is extremely finicky with certain elements (latency and overly obnoxious positional quirks, plays up the puzzle box elements a little too much at times to compensate for slower gear progression than other games) and with its type of encounter design it can be absolutely toxic to try and learn something after week one if you can't count on your FC for it.

Right, I just mean that the tank wasn't using all the actions available to him. The dungeon in question was Totorak and the gladiator was level 27, so he had the Halone combo available to him. Even then Fast Blade > Savage Blade builds hate on a single enemy way faster than spamming Flash (which led to me ripping hate off him as BLM no matter what I did).

Then again, it could be worse. I once had a Paladin tank a low level dungeon and spam shield bash in the middle of his combo strings during a low level dungeon.

I'm the other way around, I love to tank at endgame with every single tool at my disposal. Low leveling tanking, specially before you unlock Rage of Halone/Butcher's Block, is really boring and hard to keep hate when partied up with other endgame DPS. Plus TP goes down too fast cause of the need to keep using a 70 TP starter so much more often. :(

Ok so if I'm a PC owner with an active sub and buy it for PS4 as well, can I just pay 1 subscription and play my choice of either or?

If so, how does my UI get affected? Will the PS4 version mess up my PC UI and vice versa?

-Yes.

-You'll need a seperate UI built for both systems I think, sadly. It isn't a server side deal... for some reason. Speaking of which I need to back up mine on PC and stuff it on Google Drive. If for some reason I lose it again (forgot and formatted last time) and have to redo all of my bars and macros again... oogh.

Finally got to fucking 26 for My THM to get Swiftcast for my WHM. Next up is leveling up my 22 ACN to 34 to get Eye for an Eye.

Then will continue with the rest of the story for my LV 30 WHM. Might have BLM as my secondary main class since I already have a 21 ARC from my PC playing last year.

I think the fastest way to get your Chocobo after you join a Grand Company is to do the Grand Company hunting log, not leves. I did it in just a few minutes because you get a ton of seals for certain monsters.

I know this is a lazy question, but not near my ps4 to check. Where is the GC hunting log located in the menus? Is it near the regular hunting log?

This thread is for a realm reborn right?

I am planning to buy this game but still I have to pay a monthly fee? or is free when I buy the game

Man, I am seriously loving this game. It's so great to play and know the plug is not going to be pulled imminently like in the beta.

But there is some dude who has been spamming me with marketing messages offering to sell me gil (with great discounts!) for hours now. No matter where I go I am getting this message and it makes an annoying beep sound. What can be done about this?

Yeah gold/gil spammers are an annoying part of many MMO's unfortunately. Highlight the name in the chat log and goto sub commands (square on PS4), there is an option to blacklist the user. It will stop the messages ;)

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Picked up the ps4 version last night and made a character on Yojimbo. Sadly Durandal is full, or I'd have made a character there.

Really loving the game. Played a lot of the beta stuff on pc and ps4, but it's still a joy to play.

Anyone else on Yojimbo?

Just came back to the game after a 6 month hiatus.

I'm running CM for the roulette crap.

CM.

You know, that place I ran 35 times until I quit the game? Ya, that one. Take it out of the game SE.

Well in story roulette there is only really that or Prae to run (or I think the story primals but not sure if they are still in that roulette).

Unless you mean Copperbell Mines but they've re-tooled the low level duty roulette so there is more weight on higher level dungeons (though I guess with the rush of new people it gets weighed down to lower levels).

Any tips for a beginner tank (lvl 10-15)? Skill rotation? ways to keep enmity and apply it to mobs that spawn during an engagement?

What's the acc cap for melee DPS on the second coil?

Diff per turn, think Turn 6 is 472 for flank accuracy.

Turn 7 isn't much higher but on Turn 8 it spikes insanely high, it's really stupid, IMO. This game desperately needs some form of customization, how they can keep ratcheting this up with no way to manipulate it really bugs me. I see several MMOs outright dropping the stat and picking up more fun ones and XIV is doubling down on it with no wiggle room. :(

Shouldn't be that hard to get since DRGs get acc out of the whazoo

Like seriously, ilvl100 stuff will get you over 510 accuracy without food, I'm liking that.

Yeah, I know how that is, on my Monk alt my goal was to swipe all of the Maiming gear to hit my caps. Assume it was laid out like that because on Dragoon you're utterly screwed if you miss as opposed to being annoyed on Monk.. well, until it causes Greased Lightning in all of it's goofy glory to fall off.

Accuracy on my main (Bard) rests solely on one fact: do you have Turn 5 pants? If so, you're fine! If not, screw you, enjoy missing!(or stacking up some sweet Skill Speed gear). As someone who has cleared Twintania like twenty times in total now, I've yet to see these pants. =/ I'd curse RNG, but it's less RNG and more the misguided manner of having separate loot tables per coffer and 4 bosses for too many equipment slots.

If you are a marauder level up gladiator a bit to get provoke (places you 1 point on top of the enmity list for one target) and flash (AoE enmity generation + blind). If you are a Gladiator always good to grab Foresight from marauder as an additional defensive cooldown.

At low levels I usually go start off with a flash for a group of enemies (or an overpower as marauder) and focus down on one using the basic combo (too tired to remember the names of the skills for marauder but the gladiator one starts with fast blade the).

When you get it I use the range attack (shield throw and whatever the marauder one is called) to get a bit of enmity on a new add and throw in a flash or overpower once it gets into the current group.

Also it might be worth assigning a kill order using the mark feature so people in the group know what to focus on. It makes life a bit easier when you are starting out as you can focus the basic combo on the current target while using the AoE every other combo to keep enmity up on the other mobs.

I noticed I wasn't the only person that was having this dilemma, so I thought I would share my perspective on the differences of the two versions and which one would be best for you. I actually pre-ordered the ps4 and got into the early access before I started playing the pc version. I ended up buying the pc version on Monday since my curiosity was killing me. I had to know if my pc could handle the game better or worse than the ps4 at max settings. I am able to run the game at max settings with a 560ti and have a fps of 30 - 60. My gpu usually drops to the 30s and rarely to the high 20s for a couple seconds when there is a lot of player models in the cities. If not, it usually sits around the high 40s to 60. When there aren't many player models or your traversing the world it easily hits 60. Pretty much, with a 560ti I see less dips and stuttering than the ps4 version, it feels more solid. The ps4 version would dip at exactly the same moments that my pc version would (due to high player counts), but it was a little more drastic.

Asset wise, they are identical, but the ps4 version looks it has less AF. I tried to make these pics look identical as possible, but the early access on the ps4 ended, so the ps4 pics are of my character when he was a lower level. All the pics are in jpg. I used the message attachment method for the ps4 pics, so I could get the highest quality export. For pc, I just took a screenshot within the game. Sorry about the whiteouts, but I didn't want to post a pic of anyone's screen name without them knowing.

PS4 pic1

PC pic 1

PS4 pic 2

PC pic 2

To my own eyes it looks like the pc version has more AF and slightly better lighting. Besides that, they are practically identical except for avg fps (depends on gpu). I ended up sticking with the game pad on pc, it just feels more ergonomic and instinctive to me. I was able to use the DS4 on pc and even have the touchpad working as a mouse due to the XInput Wrapper. This is my opinion, but if you at least have a 550ti (below 560ti) you should be able to run the game at maximum with a comparable fps to the ps4 version or even better. Anything lower than that is bordering the fence. The ps4 version is great for simple plug and play and remote play seems like a great addition for performing less demanding tasks. That's it folks sorry for the big ass post. Just wanted to give more insight for those wondering. Just get the version that is more convenient for you, they both play great.

EDIT: Sorry, I totally forgot about CPU specs. Make sure you fulfill the system requirements.

Alex

Member
XIV's GPU requirements are fairly low, like most MMOs it's very CPU bound. When I'm in Mor Dhona on a shoulder to shoulder night, my 770 usually reads about 40% utilization. The PS4 version is wonderful but it's never going to hang quite as well with all these overclocked i5s and i7s just due to the nature of the game.

I'm hoping with all of these attempts at easing the load on CPUs with Nvidias new drivers, mantle, etc, that we might see a little more performance gain on PC even when they (eventually) release a DX11 client.

Our team cleared Turn 7 today. Great job everyone!

Grats! I'm jealous, our group had some drama and hasn't been able to progress much the last couple weeks. Usually I get a kick out of MMO drama but this time it's just been annoying and pointless and I wanna hit bosses.

First, mark the group of mob in the order that you want them to be attack in (1,2,3 etc..) then start off with your ranged emity builder - Shield Lob for GLD or Tomahawk for MRD - then Flash/Overpowered afterward (make sure you get the whole group). After that you can just use your Rage Combos (GLD: Fast Blade > Savage Blade; MRD: Heavy Swing > Skull Render) and focus on the order that you put your target in. Watch the hate bar next to the party's HP. If your DPS have a half a brain they would follow your order. If not just sigh heavily and focus on their mob instead. It's really that simple at lower level and 1 Flash/Overpowered should be enough to keep the group hate if your healer does not go overboard with the healing. Keep your gear up to date, the normal gear you can buy from shop should be more than enough to breeze through the lower dungeons. Oh and throw out a defensive CD whenever you feel fancy.

Fast Blade > Savage Blade will always be your go-to combo for building hate on one enemy. You're kinda SOL when it comes to endgame people doing low level dungeons because they're simply gonna build more emnity than you can, even if you only do Fast Blade > Savage Blade over and over. This is why marking a kill order is important in the early, since its a lot easier for the tank to manage enmity if everyone is focusing on the same target.

Since you didn't specify if you were playing as Gladiator or Marauder, I'll include ideal rotations for keeping hate in the level range you mentioned (and assuming you have no cross-skills).

For Gladiator:

When pulling a group of enemies: Shield Lob on the first target > Flash > Fast Blade > Savage Blade > Flash. From there you can keep using Flash Blade > Savage Blade on whatever the current target is, using Flash on occasion to keep other enemies in check. Riot Blade can be used if you run low on MP, but you shouldn't abuse it since it costs a lot of TP to use. Remember that your job as a tank isn't to deal damage, its to keep enemies on you at all times.

For single enemy pulls, do the same as above but omit the flashes. Shield Lob and then spam Fast Blade > Savage Blade until it dies.

Your main rotation will change once you get Rage of Halone at lv 26. It's a 3rd attack for the Fast Blade > Savage Blade combo that generates a ton of enmity and puts a strength debuff on the target. The Halone combo will be your main enmity attack for pretty much the rest of the game.

An additional note: I see a lot of gladiators not understanding how Provoke works (not that I blame them, the description is pretty bad). Provoke will instantly put the user at the very top of the target's enmity list no matter how much hate it has on anything else. What this means is that, in the event that you lose hate on another target either because you died or a Black Mage/Bard/Dragoon got too greedy and drew too much hate, you can instantly recover and put yourself back as that enemy's main target. However, Provoke will only give you an additional point of enmity higher than whoever is at the top, so make sure to follow up a Provoke with another big enmity raising attack like Shield Lob, Savage Blade, Rage of Halone, etc.

Worthwhile cross-skills: Stoneskin (Lv.34 Conjurer) and... that's about it. Paladin cross-skills are kinda poop.

For Marauder:

Group of enemies: Tomahawk on the first target > Overpower to draw hate on all the other mobs (use 2x if needed) > Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder. Overpower is basically your equivalent to Flash, but it does some damage and eats a lot of your TP, so only use as needed. Brutal Swing allows you to Stun enemies and interrupt any casts that they'd be doing at the time, plus it's an Off-GCD skill meaning you can use it at any time regardless of the normal skill cooldown. Fracture does some additional damage over time, but you generally shouldn't need to use it if the DPS are doing a good enough job.

Single enemies: Tomahawk then Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder until its dead.

The rotation changes once you get Main at lv 18 and Butcher's Block at lv 30. The former combos' off of Heavy Swing and will temporarily boost your damage, the latter is a 3rd attack for the Heavy Swing > Skull Sunder combo that'll get you tons of enmity. That'll be your main single target enmity combo once you get it.

Necessary cross-skills: Provoke (Lv.22 Gladiator). Useful ones are Flash (Lv.8 Gladiator) doesn't give the same blind debuff as the Gladiator version, but still nice to have), Convalescence (Lv.10 Gladiator), Internal Release (Lv.12 Pugilist), Mantra (Lv.42 Pugilist)

I picked this up on PS4 yesterday and I'm having a blast. Been using a kb/m and it feels great, but I'm thinking about giving the controller a shot. Never played an MMO with a controller before.

It's been a long time since I've started an MMO from scratch, so the exploration and learning the mechanics is a lot of fun for me. Also, this thread has given a lot of helpful info!
