I'm having an issue. I train my guys up and they improve in stats (lets say from a D to a C), but when I check the character's card it has reverted back to a D. Why doesn't it show a C?

Sure you're not looking at the top half of the stat screen? Once you hit, say, a C, it immediately changes to a B up there (which would be the next step).

Got the game in the morning after seeing the thread, downloaded in 10 minutes on a 10mb/s connection, pretty good so far, although my defence is weird, it's completely solid in league matches, but when it comes to friendlies, they run around like headless chickens.

The potential works with the player having more potential when he's young, but as you go through the seasons and they get older, their potential falls (from what the coach said at least).

Only done my first 2 league games, won both and am at the top of the league, Luna City.

Haven't got my Club ID yet, I'll wait till I wake up and put it on here.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Are their any drawbacks if you let players play in another position? For example striker as a midfielder?

Lost all my games up until the first "official" match you have, which I then won 2-1.
This game makes no sense :lol

Did you see the quality of players in the practice matches against the terribleness of the first match? You want to get smashed in practice matches, you get more cards.

I don't think so. I play a 451 and have been using strikers occasionally as wide midfielders and defenders as holding mids without any noticeable drawbacks.

Does it remove some of the fun to just look-up all the card combos, or is it worthwhile?

I've accidentally found some combinations but I don't know if I'm wasting my time with regular cards.

As we're into the game early and all the combos aren't known, I find the fun of trying some new ones alongside the known ones. I think it would be slightly less fun if we knew all of them, but not by much.

Should i get this ?

Do you have to use streetpass for games as here in the UK myself especially i hardly ever get any hits.

there are 26 pages on the official guide in Japan about the cards, consider I finished the game after 160 hours and I didn't find all of them (
they are showed into the ending sequence
)

End of the season: P 10, W 4, D 2, L4. Only enough to come third in my first season, but I think I've figured out my first team formation.

-------------------Callaghan------------------------
Moreira---Turov---Myanvyev---Zimmerman
---Shashkov---Nascimento---Rodriguez---
Saunders------------Caron-------------Kuipers

4-3-3, Caron as the lone striker winning vital aerial challenges for Saunders and Kuipers to run onto, Nascimento as the deep-lying playmaker, and Moreira and Myanvyev making runs from deep.

I don't really understand how zones and the style of play works, but I've noticed that if you set a player to be man-marked, your players will do so even if they would leave a huge gap where the player with the ball can run into unchallenged.

So, a couple of things:

1) I asked before if you get the same number of cards if you play a friendly or a short match: the short answer is yes, but the difference is way less than I thought.
I just found out that there is a screen in-game that shows you the cards you've got: I always get 8 cards during official 90' matches - and therefore I guess friendlies too -
while when you play short matches you get 7 cards. Or at least that's what happened now.
So there is a difference, but I'm too lazy to play a friendly every time.

2) potential is still weird. I hade a player with pretty bad potential (4 grey spots) but I liked him so I kept playing him. Guess what? He's now just a couple of spot from a full potential bar, so it actually improved. Weird !

I'm currently 1st in the third division with 2 matches left

Dudes!

I've made a Shared Spreadsheet with all the combos in the OP and a bunch from the NPFC thread on Gamefaqs. I haven't filled in the columns for the stats that get boosted as it was getting time consuming, but it's an open spreadsheet, so if someone has the time to start filling them in then go nuts.

Damn thanks a lot.
It sucks that the game doesn't show you how much the combos\cards influence your stats after you unlock them...
There are a few japanese websites with the points but I don't know how reliable they may be...

I got 10 cards max by playing a complete match, if you want to get the more cards you have to play against a strong team, better if it is from a league above yours
Don't remember if you can get 10 cards in short matches, sorry

I suggest you to play as much as you can, if you don't want to stress your best players, just play with the ones from the bench, it is important to get cards and improving players' skills

Oh wow, great job! You can remove the two combos with no name, since they're already in the document (Intercepting and Wonder Boy).

Great job on the spreadsheet!

After five straight defeats and a lot of tinkering I'm now holding on in third place of the third division. I underestimated how important having a big squad is, these guys sure do get tired quickly!

I'm not really a footie fan but i'm really enjoying this game and can see myself playing it in short doses all summer. I've a couple of rookie questions to ask.

How can i tell if a player is stressed so i can avoid over playing them?
How can i get rid of a player or do i have to wait for a transfer request?
How can i tell if a player is in decline or rise?
Does that matter for training or only games?
Do they get their mojo back or are they done for good?
I've not really noticed but do practise/friendly matches advance time or can i play loads of them? Should i?

That's awesome! I'll definitely be using that later.

Could someone explain to me what zones and style of play actually affect? Changing them around doesn't seem to have a noticeable effect.

It should change how high up your team attack and defend and how spread out they are.

Still top of the league with my team, 4 wins with one of my Strikers chesting the ball down, twisting and volleying the ball into the net from outside the box. My team are great away.

FC: 4768-7519-9584
Club ID: 387997085

Another combo, Weights + Aerobics + Spa = Long Throw, I didn't catch what it did specifically though, I wasn't expecting a combo.

Second season I wasn't so fortunate, couldn't win it. 5W 2D 2L with one game to go and behind by 5 points.

Time to bring out the whip and get them in shape.

So if the direction of play is left to right, the left zone limit controls how deep your back line is and the right zone limit controls how high up your attack is, with 'Position' as your midfield?

I'll find my friend-code and Club ID later, don't really want to attempt playing online right now xD

Desperate Saves = Aerobics Meditation PK Practice

this one didn't work for me. Can you kindly verify it?

Huh, thanks a lot for pointing out!
My problem is that currently I don't have enough players to replace the whole squad and they always go in yellow...

Yeah, pretty much, it's the general area that possession should take place.
Your defence will move up higher than the defence line when in play, but the general formation should be in that area.

Maybe it's one of those that require "full potential"? I didn't even know that was a thing, but since someone added that note to a bunch of combos..

My team got soundly beaten in their first league match, but they suddenly started banging them in from the half way line in the second game.

5-0

When they introduced the cards in the game they say that some combos allow players to perform special moves in game but... I don't know if I've ever witnessed that.

Thanks for this!
I wrote a dirty script in Powershell to show which Combos i can make with my current cards. Sorry for the big post, can't think of a better way :(

Exported the Google doc as a csv into a folder.
The script looks for "Nintendo Pocket Football Club Combo Tracker - Sheet1.csv" but you can change that.
Copy the code below into notepad or whatever and save it with a ".ps1" extension in the same folder as the spreadsheet's csv file.
Create a new Notepad doc and type the names of the cards you have, one card per line - no duplicates, into it and save it as "MyCards.txt" into the script folder.
e.g. if you have Countering x 2, only add Countering.

Run the script in a Powershell console and it should output the combos you can build with your cards.

Feel free to mod the heck out of it! I'm sure i can use a range instead of copying the combo cards but hey-ho! I just hope it helps.

Code:
Have the script working and will find a pastebin or similar link to post.

Quoting this again because I just happened to get 10 cards in a short match, and it was a 2-0 loss :O
Just wanted to confirm you can get the same number of cards in shortm atches.
it was against a good team though... so I guess I'll keep 'em short.

Anyone received a red card yet or conceded an own goal?
Haven't been unlucky enough to concede an own goal yet, but I've had two players sent off, both for sliding in from behind.

Is it possible for the game to detect handball or is that just not feasible?

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed at first, I thought the game was a tad boring, but after understanding the system more now, I'm really enjoying it.
