I kind of want to work at Gamestop. Tell me what awaits me.

I've always had this morbid curiosity of working at gamestop. I've seen how stupid some of their salesmen can be. I mean anybody with a brain outranks those that have no bran. But I've always had this alter fascination with being the Al Bundy of Gamestop and having many stories to tell about Gamestop much like my time at Der Disnay.

Anyone work at gamestop or has worked at gamestop to tell me what I should expect?

I could never do it. Pushing people to preorder things and buying used games over new are things that I wouldn't feel right doing. I also think I'd be too honest with people and if they were about to make a shitty purchase I'd probably suggest something else

Depends where you would work. Work for a good manager and crew? Its a blast. Work for dumbasses and assholes? Well...yeah.

What you could 100% expect though is that your average gamer is much less informed and much more ignorant than you think. Oh, and way, way more gross. You will get an idea of how clean or shitty people live through their games.

I hope you like handling games that receive regular cat piss baths. Go into a GameStop, ask an employee to run a box cutter or tough paper through the gaps in a used 360 controller and see if you still want to work there.

Okay, real talk, it completely pisses me off that store employees gain or lose points based on preorders or cancels. I can see incentivizing pre-orders, but it's completely fucking stupid that if a person comes in and preorders 10 games with Employee A, then comes in the next day after he got fired and cancels 9 of those with Employee B, Employee B gets fucked up the ass for it. That makes NO FUCKING SENSE.

I can assure you from previous experience working there and at Walmart while in college that you'll get far more interesting stories working the Walmart electronics section.

I got a real kick out of messing with some customer's heads there. Though, ymmv since my school was in the middle of nowhere and the crowd that walmart attracted in that area was...interesting

Store closings, these days.
this.

But yeah, GameStop is an... Interesting place to work at. I've actually meet some of the best people I could've ever meet working there and are still friends with them all today, but the corporate side of things really make working there a chore, especially if your "numbers" aren't up to par.

Are you referring to all the dirt/dead skin that gets stuck between the crevaces along the back of the controller?

Today: Asking people if they want to preorder the new Call of Duty.

In three years: Asking people if they want to preorder the new iPhone.

From my personal experience as well as those I know who work/have worked there: you will get no hours and enjoy $20 pay checks.

Don't waste your fucking time.

I have the opposite problem. I'm basically being forced to apply there, but that is the one place where I'm not willing to work. Anywhere but there. Working at a GameStop just sounds like pure hell to me. I don't want to have to tell people to preorder a game that I feel will be shit. My conscience just couldn't take it.

Basically, I need to figure out how to subtly sabotage my application. GL if you really do want to work there for.

He he. Calls Gamestop employees brainless and stupid then ask them for advice.

I worked there for a year. The people were fun to work with and hang with, and there were some customers and mall staff who came in to hang out a lot. That said, regional manager was an ass, some customers were impossible and I'm a very patient person, there were some people outright trying to cheat the system, and you got a lot of people spouting dumb shit or having a huge ego about the games they play...

Also when someone comes in with a garbage bag full of games to trade in, you'll be crying inside.

Don't worry about your conscience; everybody gotta pay the bills.

Now I feel bad that 1 time I actually pre-ordered there and cancelled it later.

Don't. The phone call greeting is like 35 seconds.

Haha, yeah. Every time I call, its like, "Thank you for calling Gamestop, this is <insert name>, where you can preorder <this game> on <these systems>, which are now on sell. We also take in trade-ins and offer instore credit for items. How may I direct you call?"

An employee loses points if someone cancels his game(s) even when he was not the guy who took the preorder? :lol

Working the day when call of duty ghost xb1 resolution gate came to the surface must have been bad day as employee.

A 15% discount and the ability to rent games for free.

Other than that? Lots of headaches from both customers and corporate.

What if you're really, really rich and money is the least of your concerns, would you recommend working at Gamestop just for the experience and shits and giggles? Mind you, you'd be, like, rich enough that you can afford to laugh at the manager's face and throw a wad of bills at him like he's your bitch because you wouldn't care about getting fired at all.
